Defensive Talk

I was talking to a good buddy of mine about the Big Orange the other day and I brought up the subject of our defense for the upcoming season. Now, last season's defense was not bad, but still not on par with Chavis' normal caliber of defense. I talked about the usual issues of depth on the D-line and experience and the like. Well, apparently our guys are pretty pumped about the defense we could have. You see, my friend attends(and I used to) Baylor school in Chattanooga where Jacques McClendon played at. Who, by the way, just broke the UT bench press record at 555 lbs! Anyway, Jacques made the comment to my friend that the upcoming 2007 defense has the potential to be better than the 2005 defense. Yes...the defense that played during The Season of Which We Do Not Speak. As we painfully recall, that unit was the only reason we were even in half of the games. Of course, 'potential' is the operative word here. But, I am glad to hear that these guys are getting excited to see exactly how good they actually can be. 45 days, gentlemen.

Go Big Orange and beat Cal (and everyone else while you're at it)!!!

12 games?
That kind of talk makes me shift in my seat a little bit. Especially after reading Fulmer's little spill about how the defensive line needs step up the maturity level in the tennessean last week. Of all the question marks i'd have to say that is the most compelling. Ben Martin and Chris Donald have alot of past history to overcome if they are going to truly compete in the SEC as Freshies.

Karl is the motivator and leader, and next to Hefney and Mayo he's the defense's most important tool. Just in case yall forgot about the white boy.
