One answer to The Question vanishes: tight end Brad Cottam out for 2-3 months

Biggest question mark this season? Wide receivers. Most likely answer? A five tight end rotation, starting with senior Brad Cottam, who induced visions among Vol fans of Jason Witten beating linebackers down the field and dragging three defensive backs into the checkerboards.

But now Cottam's out two to three months with a significant wrist injury. Don't forget that David Holbert's season ended a few weeks ago when he injured his knee. So that makes three: Jeff Cottam (Brad's younger brother), Chris Brown, and Luke Stocker.

These guys and the inexperienced wide receivers really need to step up this season or what appears to be an improved running game will be negated.

Right now, it appears that the receivers that will be making the trip to Cal are senior Casey Woods, juniors Josh Briscoe and Lucas Taylor, sophomores Quintin Hancock and Austin Rogers, and newcomers Kenny O’Neal (RTT#17), Denarius Moore (RTT#14), Brent Vinson (RTT#3), and Ahmad Paige (RTT#4). Gerald Jones (RTT#7) probably would have been on this list if not for a hamstring injury. Tennessee will attempt to fill Cottam's slot with Todd Campbell (RTT#13) or Tyler Maples (RTT#29), who, at 6-0, 183 pounds and 6-3, 180 pounds, aren't exactly your prototypical tight ends.
