Wild
Wild
Wild

The only thing I really know about this game is that the Tennessee offense should beat the Florida defense and that the Florida offense should beat the Tennessee defense. On the question of which offense beats which defense more, I fear that Urban Meyer will be better able to get more of his many offensive playmakers in position to make plays than will we. Special teams, I believe, is the wild card. Britton Colquitt is hurt, but so is Florida's Brandon James. We may have an advantage when they're punting to Jonathan Hefney, but who knows? Again, I fear that they're special teams has the edge, as they apparently excel at blocking footballs leaving feet.

Prediction: Florida 41, Tennessee, 31. Ugh.

But they're always hope, and we've seen the Vols pull off the upset in the Swamp before, so Go Vols!

Oh, and here's the non-conventional winning entry of this week's Hail Mary Haiku:
Hello, my name is
Inigo Montoya, you
took our cheese. Prepare to die.

Leave your pre-, in-, and post-game thoughts below.

Nice
First shot of the crowd is of a Gator in naked torso body paint flipping off the Volunteers taking the field.

Classy, hmm?

Tip to the program's producers
Shoot directly at Verne, not down. The top of the man's head is not his best side, okay?

Since there's no one else here yet
. . . I'll do this myself:

It's Football Time in Tennessee!

Let's get 'em, guys.

Coker
Good to see him returning kicks.

Argh
Had Rogers open, Rogers dropped it. A bit behind him, but should have been caught.

Colquitt punts, James returns for a TD.

Argh.

Like I said earlier this week: don't punt to James.

This could get ugly quickly
A three and out with a dropped pass by one of our questionable receivers, followed immediately by a TD on their first touch.

Or, not. Didn't Ohio State score a TD on its first touch in the NC game?

Incomplete due to poor throw.

Upon further review . . .
. . . looks like dual possession, but "video confirms the call."

Stronger than just "no indisputable video evidence to the contrary."

Vols' second drive
Toss to Taylor.

Draw to Foster. Looks like this will start to work if we keep doing it over time.

Third down and 1. Foster, short. Defenders get off their blocks and stop Foster. So maybe not.

Punt, touchback.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Sep 15, 2007 4:00 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Gators' second drive
Tebow, for nothing.

Tebow handoff to Moore, who gets 10 yards in a hurry, but called back for holding. Second and 20.

Tebow toss to Moore, who shakes M. Johnson and gets six. Gator down -- Maurkice Pouncey. Off to the locker room. Play clock malfunctioning. Third and 14.

Tebow, nobody open, shakes about three guys, but runs out of bounds. Fourth down.

Well, so much for the offenses dominating.

Go Vols!

Vols third drive
Coker in at TB. Gets five. Second down.

Coker on a toss sweep. Gators get through the blockers and tackle Coker for a loss. Third and 12.

Nice pass to Taylor, who shakes a tackle and gets the first down. Gator down. Marquis Anderson. Game clock not working now, either.

First down. Screen to Briscoe. Another first down.

Screen to Briscoe, other side. Another eight yards.

Handoff to Coker for one. Third and one. Incomplete.

Daniel Lincoln hits the field goal. Gators 7-3.

Positive drive, mostly. Crowd sort of quiet.

There's the play
One-man play action, TD pass.

Berry had decent position, just couldn't get it. Just over his head. Misjudged it. Gators 14-3.

Go Vols!

Poor return on the kickoff
Now we must go 80, down by 11. Nice.

Taylor for six. False start, Anthony Parker. Second and nine. Handoff to Coker, third and seven. End of first quarter.

Nice tag of our offense as "nip and tuck" though, so there's that.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Sep 15, 2007 4:28 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

End of first quarter thoughts
Too many playmakers, right? What's happened to Foster? Are we giving up on him after only a handful of carries? But Coker's our only playmaker on offense, except for Ainge, who can only "nip and tuck."

Defense looked good until the last drive, when Florida drove, what, 65 yards in what, three plays or so?

No way we keep up.

Go Vols!

Vols' next possesion, scary but . . . 3
Nice conversion of fourth down.

And nice call by Danielson in seeing that the new rule leads to more fourth down attempts.

Nice run by Coker.

Stalled at the five. Lincoln for another FG.

Red zone offense not good.

UUUGGGGGHHHHH I hate the Gaytors!!
I'm so angry!!  Could our red zone offense look any worse?  Did we honestly think we could beat the gators with field goals?  This is going to be brutal.
As a Tennessee Fan living in Florida I think I've already died and gone to hell.  Gaytor hell.

Awful defense on the option
We don't really hit Tebow very hard at all, and he gets it off to the trailer, who runs another 10 yards.

Okay . . .
. . . calmed down now. Too early to go for two after the TD, I guess.

We're still down two scores and they're moving the ball. Now our defense goes back out there.

Must be nice
Must be nice to have the refs on your team.  They shouldn't even of had the ball on that drive since they should've been called for pass interferance.  It's pretty hard to play the Gaytors and the refs.

What's the point? Another five-yard slant to a possession receiver.

Oh, wait, there's a pass attempt to a receiver who actually got behind the secondary . . . incomplete.
