Yeah
More arch. Don't know if you heard it from what you're listening to, but he put one bad one up and Pearl lit into him for a solid minute or two.

Hmmm
I didn't hear Bob or Bert mention it, but it must have worked...

Lofton is . . . is . . .
. . . he's on fire! Look! It's Lofton!

He's 6-8 on 3s.

Go Vols!

I think they've found his problem
Like you said, the comment about getting more arc on the ball really seemed to help.  It's very difficult to make a 3 with a flat arc.  If anybody's bored (and has the means), a quick review of previous games would be interesting to see if that's been his problem the whole time.

hey hoop
Agreed.

And yes, that would be worth a look. Anybody got any old video?

Vols lead 44-23 at the half
Funny thing is, except for Lofton, the Vols look sorta sloppy.

What's in the numbers?
Go Vols!

NRG
And that's probably attributable to energy -- see below.
Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Jan 26, 2008 8:10 PM EST up reply actions

The only stat that Georgia leads
is in free throw percentage, and that's not much.  You can also see that they have more offensive rebounds, but that's only a result of their bad shotting percentage.  UT doesn't have as many o-rebounds simply because they don't have as many missed shots.

by David Hooper on Jan 26, 2008 8:10 PM EST up reply actions

I see...
"What's in the numbers?"

How is the team's energy?
I have a sneaking suspicion that the team gets fatigued when they have several games in a short span, and that the fatigue is the primary culprit for both of the team's losses.  If they look a lot more alive this game (particularly in the second half), I'll be a lot more convinced of it.

If so, then they need to watch out for Mississippi State - an away game after the last 3-day, 2-day sequence of the season.  That, and MSU just took out Ole Miss.

Hey Gents
Howdy!  I'm with the extended fam tonight, so I'm just stopping in to see what's going on.  Looks like Mr. Lofton has finally shown up, and it's certainly showing.

I'll hop back on here later tonight for some post-game rambling.

Have fun!

Huh?
What was that? Chism just threw the ball to nowhere.

Someone check the locker room
for #5's jump shot.

Jesus, just as I typed this he made another 3.

by wvvol on Jan 26, 2008 8:36 PM EST reply actions

In other news,
UT has hope for other top-10 losses to soften their fall after this week:
  • Indiana.  Done.
  • Wisconsin.  #11, and not top-10, but done.
  • Washington State.  Not likely at this point.
  • Georgetown.  Close game right now.

They keep takin care of business
and the ranking will take care of itself.  One thing about basketball, whoever is ranked #1 in April is undisputed.

by wvvol on Jan 26, 2008 8:41 PM EST up reply actions

And the mischevious part of me
keeps hoping a 10-16 seed wins the tourney.

by David Hooper on Jan 26, 2008 8:55 PM EST up reply actions

Me too
I was listening ESPN radio this afternoon and Maryland's coach was on.  He was politicking for getting more teams in the NCAA tournament.  I don't think that's a good idea.  More teams would make the regular season that much more irrelevant, and more importantly if they don't have a chance to win (and 10-16 seeds don't) why waste our time?  I guess the coaches want it so they can say they took their team to the NCAA tournament, but I don't see how it could make the tournament better.

by wvvol on Jan 26, 2008 9:06 PM EST reply actions

My guess
is that tourney games are good moneymakers for teams, and that Maryland has reason to be concerned about their presence in the NCAA tourney in the short-term future.  Having a greater assurance of tourney play would give them more money, and would probably give the coach more ammunition for the annual why-should-we-keep-you-around meeting with the AD.
