Jackson the Mule says . . .

. . . who's number 17?

Northern Illinois visits Neyland Stadium as the Vols are trying to solve their offensive woes. Tennessee will try to reanimate the offense by starting QB Nick Stephens in place of Jonathan Crompton, who has been mistake-prone and wildly inaccurate during the Vols' miserable 1-3 start to the season.

birdjam wins this week's Hail Mary Haiku with the following:

“Northern Illinois,”
Hey, that is five syllables!
Haiku writes itself.

Is that CSTV internet radio pretty reliable?

I’m sick today and the only place to watch the game on PPV for free is a really smokey bar, which would wreak havoc with my cough.

It's worked for me in the past

But if I remember right, it might only work w/ Explorer and not Firefox.

Fortunately,

there is an extension for Firefox that allows you to open up an IE tab within the Firefox window. That solves that problem pretty neatly.

It’s not available for Macs, though; you have to have IE on the computer for it to work.

Looks like it might work in Safari

Will check back later and let you know. I can also run IE6 with Crossover Office if that doesn’t work.

It's how I always listen

It’s not bad, but it does lag behind a little bit. So if I’m following the thread here and listening, I usually know what’s gonna happen before it happens….

The Arkansas Turnoverbacks

are living up to form. They could conceivably be leading Florida right now if their offense could hold onto the ball.

Or their special teams.

by hooper on Oct 4, 2008 1:06 PM CDT   0 recs

Speaking of special teams:

Arkansas: muffed punt catch – turnover to Florida, who got a touchdown on a drive with about 60 yards worth of penalties against the Gators.

Florida: Brandon James kick return for TD called back for a block in the back. Irony is that the block had no effect on the play.

Florida: chip-shot FG attempt by Arkansas blocked by Florida

Yeah, special teams matter.

Alabama plays down to the level of competition.

Blowouts vs. Clemson and Georgia, but a closer one against Tulane. (No explanation for Arky.)

So UT has a chance!!!

;-)

by hooper on Oct 4, 2008 6:01 PM CDT   0 recs

Wow

Looks even emptier than I thought it would.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:05 PM CDT   0 recs

Yeah

No, you’re being rich.

Go Vols!

Understood.

Agreed, but still flying blind.

by hooper on Oct 4, 2008 6:10 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

In the one quick shot I saw

It looked like the upper deck beneath the skyboxes were closed. The rest looks very spotty.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:12 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Basilo was right

Crompton is not the first QB on the field. It’s the guy from NIU!

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:08 PM CDT   0 recs

Good news

They pass like we do. Or did, hopefully.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:14 PM CDT   0 recs

How does the defense look so far?

It sounds like they’re passing well.

by hooper on Oct 4, 2008 6:17 PM CDT   0 recs

Bending

No break. Very close coverage on that last 3rd down. Could have been interference.

NIU’s offense sort of appears to have them on their heels. They’ll likely figure it out after a series or two.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:19 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yay!

no points for you!

by hooper on Oct 4, 2008 6:18 PM CDT   0 recs

1st look at Nick

Good luck, young man.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:19 PM CDT   0 recs

So tell me how Stephens looks.

Does he read through the progressions?

He’s got a reputation for taking chances: will he throw it away itf the pass isn’t there?

by hooper on Oct 4, 2008 6:19 PM CDT   0 recs

Really nice 1st throw

Semi-deep. Crowd loves it.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:23 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Nice

false start. McClendon.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:20 PM CDT   0 recs

Wow.

The radio broadcast must be on a heck of a delay. You posted that nearly 10 seconds before the radio guys announced it.

by hooper on Oct 4, 2008 6:21 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Just saw something I didn't like

Foster, while in the huddle, looking at the JumboTron’s replay of his last run. Just a second, but sheesh.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:22 PM CDT   0 recs

Gee. New QB. RB who doesn't run up the middle.

And it’s a handoff around the edge? Who’da guessed that?

by hooper on Oct 4, 2008 6:22 PM CDT   0 recs

PPV company

has some serious problems with out of phase audio. Like listening through a giant tube.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:22 PM CDT   0 recs

Foster caught from behind

Hardesty, no.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:24 PM CDT   0 recs

I got my oil changed today at Jiffy Lube.

They had a magazine on the waiting area table that had a quick Q/A with Fulmer. It was published preseason. He sidestepped every question in the article except about Foster, where he said expected Foster to break the rushing record early in the season.

by hooper on Oct 4, 2008 6:25 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Incompletion

batted at LOS. DE not cut.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:24 PM CDT   0 recs

Caught

Fumble by Briscoe. Would have been a 1st down. 3 guys converged.

Go Vols!

FSU beats Miami in a Monsoon. That is one nasty looking storm they have.

by hooper on Oct 4, 2008 6:29 PM CDT   0 recs

Man, quiet

Sounds like being at the mall.

Just before it opens.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:29 PM CDT   0 recs

Sack, Reveiz

98 had him first, but let him go.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:30 PM CDT   0 recs

Wide shot

Those under the skybox sections look mostly empty. Rest really doesn’t look that bad now.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:32 PM CDT   0 recs

That's about how things felt in K-Plains

The news reports said the ticket sales picked up today. Some even went to far as to say that only 4,000 tickets were left. (They obviously ignored the scalper counts.)

by hooper on Oct 4, 2008 6:33 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Not bad considering

PPV, NIU, 1-3 and all that.

Late hit, Bolden, on the QB. WR caught it, too. They look better than us. Much, so far.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:35 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Wow.

It sounds like the team isn’t ready for the game.

by hooper on Oct 4, 2008 6:35 PM CDT   0 recs

McCoy credited for the tackle

New strategy, dive and theaten mortal peril. QB hits the turf out of fear. Tackle without touch.

Go Vols!

You know

We ought to do a study on the importance of fast starts this season with the new clock rules. Think AL. Think us.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:38 PM CDT   0 recs

Ugh.

Short of the 20?

Another drop, this one Warren

Perfect throw by Stephens.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Oct 4, 2008 6:40 PM CDT   0 recs

[sniff] He’s not going to get a whole lot of shots with the clock rules.

1st gunslinger sighting

No! Yes!

Covered, but quick, nice grab by Rogers on short slant.

3rd and short

Very.

Slow out of the backfield. Whew.
