Texas’ defense seems to be better overall, but it looks like it’s better at stopping the run. It’s only 70th in pass efficiency defense, and Tech is obviously an explosive passing team. That should be a great game.

What they guys say about Tennessee
Herbstreit: Back in the 90’s, TN was the USC of the SEC. The Kelly Washington “arrow” that went through Knoxville signaled a change in focus of the players, where they were more concerned about the NFL, and it’s not been the same since.
Corso: Offense is “anemic.” Puts pressure on the defense, which makes them crack. When the defense cracks, it puts pressure on the coaches, which makes them coach scared. When they coach scared, they lose. “Vicious circle,” and it continues tonight, with SS winning by a field goal.

Coaching scared
If coaches were to coach as if they were afraid of not winning rather than afraid of losing, the games would be far more entertaining to watch.
Across the board, both NCAA and NFL.

I think Herbstreit is right
for the most part. I also think that Fulmer has just been outclassed by younger and more innovative coaches on X’s and O’s and in game preparation over the past few years. I think the 2-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust runs, play-action flood patterns for 5 yards, and toss sweeps to the short side of the field are very good plays when dominating in the 90s, but not in 2008. I heard there is something called the middle of the field. I hope it’s discovered soon before hopes of a bowl are gone. Also, do we have some guy named Brandon Warren? Hmmmm…..

I agree about the middle of the field
But Georgia is still running a very successful I-form, toss sweep every third play offense. I think part of our problem might be we’re not committed enough to that.

True, but not completely...
Georgia has the stones (and the talent) to chuck the ball down the field to Massaquoi and AJ Green, where we toss the ball….. to….. Taylor…. 13 yards down the field…. ? That’s our piss poor deep ball threat. Point is, GA can beat you short and deep, so their running attack is very effective b/c the defense doesn’ t know what the hell to expect. We make no attempt at establishing a deep passing attack, so our running attack is crap. Nonetheless, we still run into the teeth of a 7 or 8 man brick wall and jog back to the huddle for 2nd and 9.

Deep Ball
Stephens has been known to hit Denarius Moore for a few long balls. And he had Austin Rogers open down the field against Alabama, but Rogers was too slow to catch up to the ball (fact, not an in insult).
That said, I agree with you to the extent that we do nothing to establish a deep game. We chuck it down two or three times a game, and that seems to be the maximum.
Get Buc'ed up !
So what are the Buc’s going to do with Miami in Cville today ? And is Al off the hot seat for the year ?
