ESPN College GameDay open thread
This here's your open thread for ESPN College GameDay. You know, in case they talk about Tennessee's seach for a new head coach or one of the candidates. We'll keep the thread open for the 3:30 games, too, for anyone who wants to watch and comment on Butch Davis as his North Carolilna team takes on the Maryland Terrapins or Tim Brewster as his Minnesota Golden Gophers travel to Wisconsin. Both games can be found somewhere on the ESPN/ABC family of networks. Feel free to comment on South Carolina-Florida or any other game as well.
Also, be sure to check out SB Nation's brand-spankin'-new Race to the BCS Hub for all of your BCS needs. Live vicariously. All the cool kids are doing it.

No, the crowd's been pretty quiet
The announcers haven’t said anything, either.

Suggested guessing game ideas for next week:
1: How many yards of offense will Tennessee end up with (within 15)?
2: How many times will we wish Eric Berry was more a part of the team than what he is?
3: How many tears will you shed after Vandy becomes bowl eligible?
I keep on missing the guessing games and picks
On the other hand, everybody looks flat today. This is not the week to introduce someone to college football.

Sure it is.
The Vols aren’t playing. ;-)

Clearly you haven't seen enough Auburn football
On the plus side, Notre Dame / Navy is farce at this point.
by Chris Pendley on Nov 15, 2008 1:21 PM EST up reply actions
That's alright.
Nobody in Auburn has seen enough Auburn football, either.
by David Hooper on Nov 15, 2008 1:27 PM EST up reply actions
Or any Auburn football at all, really
Same kind of goes for us.

Why?
Competence just means that Tennessee has that much farther to go…

Because I hold out hope
Hope that, at some point, someone’s going to do something to actually deserve the #15 ranking in the land. Seriously, it’s downright painful to try and figure out if there are 25 good teams this season, let alone 25 teams worth ranking.

So, pick-6, actual TD, idiotic special teams TD?
I guess it could’ve been worse when we played them.

All I know is that I'll be glad Tennessee gets them early next year.
That assumes Tebow leaves, naturally, which I think he will do.

Wouldn't it be nice if, for one game, the announcers would not go off about a playoff?
I get it. You want a playoff. Everybody understands that. Can you just call the game now, please?
Which game are you watching?
All I can hear is how Gary Danielson wants to have Florida’s kids.
by Chris Pendley on Nov 15, 2008 5:06 PM EST up reply actions
Gary Danielson and Verne Lundquist, Redux
for (min = 60; min > 0; min—) {
for (sec = 60; sec > 0; sec—) {
printf(“Tebow Tebow Tebow\n”);
pause (1);
}
}
Compiler suggests
change pause(1) to delay(1); really, it should be delay(50) or some such.
by Chris Pendley on Nov 16, 2008 9:38 AM EST up reply actions
Yeah
sleep(1);
would have been the correct call if we wanted them to speak at a rate of 3 Tps (Tebows per second). I didn’t check any man pages before I wrote it.
I failed, I know.
Yet, somehow, a coding failure is wholly appropriate for that situation...
by David Hooper on Nov 16, 2008 2:34 PM EST up reply actions
It really is
Because whoever programmed Danielson screwed up somewhere…
He occasionally talks about something other than Tebow. Woops.
Why? What other candidates had a winning weekend?
(cue in 3…2..1…)

Let's see
Tim Brewster: lost.
Mike Leach: bye
Brian Kelly: won, in line for BCS bowl
Huh. Look at that.

I watched the Cinci game
I was not overly impressed. Kelly looks like a good coach, but he spent most of his time yelling at his players and at the refs. I think this is important, but I rarely saw him doing anything else.
That’s anecdotal evidence based off of one game, though. They did get the win, which is more than I can say for our ball club.
Everyboyd knows.
They have either acknowledged as much, or they’re citing previous coaching searches to show that the disinterest may not mean anything.
