Wrong post

Totally irrelevant to this post, but is anybody else watching the UF-USC game? It’s been known for some time that Uncle Verne and Gary Danielson are completly biased towards Florida, but the amount of Gator butt-kissage (to put it nicely) is rediculous. It’s about to warrant a message to the CBS ombudsman.

Puke.

I tried to watch

But every time I switched back over, I’d missed another score. But I have certainly know what you’re talking about.

Florida's play right now is warranting it, frankly.

God, they’re fast.

Really looking forward

to seeing the new guys.

And man, it’s good to see Pearl at courtside. Note to self: not “sideline” but “courtside”.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 7:04 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Huh

I thought they’d moved the 3-point line back further than that. Does that really make that much difference?

YAY!

You would not believe how hard it is to find a radio station website with a Mac-compatible player. Anyone else in the same boat, try wlac.com out of Nashville. You’ll need to install Flip4Mac, but it’s worth it.

No SportSouth for you out West?

I seem to get get regional channel from Miami to Anchorage for some reason.

Go Vols!

Nope, nowhere.

Another reason to be thankful for the Age of Pearl—a better team means more nationally televised games!

Anyone else having this problem?

Could someone please explain to me how I can pay for both ESPN’s Full Court package and DirecTV’s sports package, and still be told that the game is blacked out in my local southwest VA market on SportSouth, but isn’t picked up by the Full Court schedule? And why ESPN360.com tells me I don’t have an affiliated ISP just to pour salt on the wounds?

This is already more time than I wanted to spend with Bob Kesling. Real question: does Bert still get to yell “MONEY!” without Lofton?

by wshelton2 on Nov 15, 2008 7:16 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Argh

That would suck.

Bert does not need much of a reason to yell MONEY!

Try calling both ESPN and DirecTV and yelling MONEY into the phone. Maybe you’ll eventually get somebody who can help.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 7:19 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Excellent

It’d be nice, for all the press the other players get, if Prince steps up big-time this year.

by hooper on Nov 15, 2008 7:21 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Loving the odds

for the return of the out of bounds turnovers off that press. Apparently didn’t have the lengths to run the press/traps Pearl usually likes to run.

Although we did still have a bunch of them last season, didn’t we?

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 7:21 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wow. Nice start. 8 turnovers already.

Here’s hoping they keep this up. UT doesn’t need to get Kentucky’d in this one.

by hooper on Nov 15, 2008 7:23 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Maze for 3...

Bert: “MONEY!”

There’s something strangely familiar about it nonetheless

by wshelton2 on Nov 15, 2008 7:23 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Thank you, Pat and Bruce

for allowing the healing music of Rocky Top to resonate.

Rocky Top, you'll .....um...

Haven’t heard it in so long I’ve forgotten the words. :)

by Graysnail on Nov 15, 2008 7:33 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Next Weekend

Kesling’s selling the Friday night bball at MTSU/Saturday afternoon football at Vandy deal…what are the odds that there’s more orange at the basketball game? Because that wouldn’t be strange.

by wshelton2 on Nov 15, 2008 7:28 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Good question

I’d bet that if there’s apathy at games in Knoxville, that the apathy in the rest of the state would be staggering. There might be only half orange.

;-)

I didn’t realize Greg Oden was still in college.

Hopson's

got a really nice looking shot. Very steep trajectory. Smooth stroke.

Is Negedu

taller than Chism? They have him on the out of bounds guy.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 7:38 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Who's faster?

It might make more sense to have Chism in position for defense if the press doesn’t work.

by hooper on Nov 15, 2008 7:40 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah

Was just wondering what the reason might be. That sounds like a good reason. Or maybe Negedu has a bigger wingspan and/or can jump higher/faster.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 7:41 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If anybody's worried...

USC is trailing and Stanford is driving.

It’s really early, though.

by hooper on Nov 15, 2008 7:39 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Steven Pearl?

Anybody remember Ryan Childress? Is he hurt still and I just don’t know about it?

by wshelton2 on Nov 15, 2008 7:43 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He's still there, I think

No idea if he’s not feeling well or something, though.

by Graysnail on Nov 15, 2008 7:44 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Trivia question to which I don't know the answer

What five languages does Negedu speak?

1. Nigerian
2. English
3. Um

5. Hmm

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 7:49 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm going with

French and two other African languages. Swahili and . . . um, Ugandan?

Yikes. I know nothing about African languages.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 7:51 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The other three would all be Nigerian.

“Nigerian” isn’t a language; there are many Nigerian languages.

by hooper on Nov 15, 2008 7:53 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

English
French
Three local languages (Uruba, Ebo, etc.; there are over 400 in Nigeria)

by hooper on Nov 15, 2008 7:50 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Huh

Why would there be three “local” languages? Or “local” just means in NIgeria?

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 7:54 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah.

local = native to Nigeria

by hooper on Nov 15, 2008 7:56 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Oh, yes

Between the two of you, have got almost everything covered. Those not covered:

Rap music.
The Complete History of the Three Stooges, and
. . . well, I’d guess that’s it.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 7:59 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

funny

and between those two, guess which one has a better chance of getting covered?

by hooper on Nov 15, 2008 8:00 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Stooges, definitely. And of the two of you, it will be you.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 8:03 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Bingo!

The Mrs. actually has a theory that all men love the Three Stooges. That it’s a genetic, Y-chromosome thing.

by hooper on Nov 15, 2008 8:04 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Another question

In what year does Gatorade finally . . .

woo for Maze-to-Tatum for an oop!

. . . introduce Eggnog flavor?

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 7:56 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ummm...........

………………………….

by hooper on Nov 15, 2008 7:57 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Um.

The idea that anything eggnog-flavored can do anything other than knock you straight on your (um, mule) disturbs me greatly.

by Graysnail on Nov 15, 2008 8:00 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

8 of 16 from behind the arc

Hopson 2 of 3
Tatum 3 of 5

It’s one thing to temeper expectations after the 40-2 exhibition game. This is something else entirely.

by wshelton2 on Nov 15, 2008 8:03 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Things to improve:

better FT percentage (currently about 72%)

better on defense (fewer than 37 would have been nice)

fewer fouls. not less aggressive, but maybe 2-3 fewer in the half would really let the second half open up

by hooper on Nov 15, 2008 8:06 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hmm

I don’t think so. I think if there’s any practice aspect to this game, it will be to practice the way he wants them to play, including the press/trapping game.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 8:21 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He also said that the team needs to be better at half-court if they want to get anywhere in the postseason.

That’s why I wasn’t sure. Perhaps within the final 10 minutes if the game is well in hand.

by hooper on Nov 15, 2008 8:22 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah

Could be.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 8:23 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Full-on press early

Maybe we need a new name for Forty Minutes of Hell.

OOOHHHH

Steal and flying slam by Hopson! Woo!!!! Nice.

Tyler Smith getting in on the action, too

This Hopson kid ain’t bad – triggered the fast break.

by Graysnail on Nov 15, 2008 8:26 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah

If this is the getting-to-know-each-other period, that phase following that is going to be something special.

Go Vols!

Woo!

These guys are having fun! Bouncing around bumping into each other. Smiling.

Look! It’s . . . fun!

Boy, have I missed basketball

Didn’t realize it until now. But the runs and momentum and fast breaks and traps and steals and fun.

Hopson is a fantastic addition. Dude’s going to be terrific.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 8:42 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Is he a JUCO, or a youngster?

I paid no attention to the basketball offseason.

by Graysnail on Nov 15, 2008 8:47 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

#5

He was rated as the #5 recruit coming out of Hopkinsville this year, so he is a freshman.

by Vol Navy on Nov 15, 2008 8:49 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ha!

Overall. Just happens to be from Hopkinsville. I’d imagine he was No. 1 in Hopkinsville.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 8:53 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That's what I was thinking

If he was the #5 in Hopkinsville, we need to set up a house there or something.

by Graysnail on Nov 15, 2008 8:57 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm not sure, actually

I don’t really even know who it is. Tanner Wild, maybe. If that’s so, then he’s been on the team for awhile.

Go Vols!

Oops

Sorry, thought I was responding to the walk-on comment.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 8:50 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Did I hear that right?

Tennessee’s back up point guard, who’s playing right now, is a walk on who was cut by Chattanooga, the team his team is beating by . . . math . . . 39 points?

Go Vols!

Hooper

Here’s your half-court work.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 8:59 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Figured they'd work on it.

That’ll pay dividends in conference play.

by hooper on Nov 15, 2008 9:01 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

After this game

We will have one 33 home games in a row.

Go Vols!

Sounds like a good game for UT.

You know, for not playing VMI…

;-)

by hooper on Nov 15, 2008 9:04 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I wish I would have been able to see this game

I can’t wait to watch this team play. Any comments generally?

by kidbourbon on Nov 15, 2008 9:07 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Just what the score would suggest

They are very, very good. Very active. Good shooters, work well together.

Defense looks better and more aggressive this year. Hopson is fantastic. Tyler Smith is picking up right where he left off. Prince got out of the gate very fast and had an excellent first half.

Go Vols!

by Joel on Nov 15, 2008 9:08 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Thanks

Sounds like good news all around. What spot is Tyler playing at?

by kidbourbon on Nov 15, 2008 9:11 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Didn't get to watch...

…But sounded good.

Finally some good news in Big Orange Country.

Heh … LSU is getting creamed.

Dare I say … “Woo?”
