Mike Leach Offered UT Job? | WDEF News 12 | News, Weather and Sports for Chattanooga and the Tennessee Valley
Yay, rumors! Yes, this one from the LoneStar. No, this is not worth significant attention at the moment. It's a rumor of a rumor.

I should mention:
First, Tony Basilio brought this up. I dread listening to him this week with the whole Crompton thing, but at least something entertaining came up.
Second, I do take Basilio to task for criticizing the rumor game. Sure, it’s all rumors. But the coaching rumormill is easily the most excitement we’ve had from football all season long. Don’t diss our fun, man!

I love the rumormill, actually.
So long as everybody realizes that none of us have any idea what we’re talking about, it’s cheap and easy entertainment.
It’s kinda like watching cheap kung fu movies; you know that none of the stuff you see has any merit to it, but it’s a great way to set the e.k.g. readings to zero for a while and zone out of reality.

It is like one of those pseudo reality reality shows on MTV. I feel dirty about it but can’t help myself.

Roll with it, man!
You don’t get to play in this mud very often, so take it while the opportunity’s there. Showertime will always be there when the new coach is hired.

I love it!
The ‘Nooga isn’t afraid to circulate this junk. Regardless of who our next coach will be, I hope our AD has more class than to start talking to any coach that’s in any title hunt and particularly with an undefeated coach working on a national title run.
BTW, I loved the crappy kung fu movies that aired Sat afternoons on USA network back in the day.

Me too.
The Mrs. and I used to get cheap Chinese takeout and rent a cheap kung fu movie. Right now, there aren’t any Chinese takeout spots close to home, so it’s a bit awkward. But those made for some great stress-detox nights. I think our favorite was the 18 Weapons of Kung Fu, which only showed about 6 total weapons in the whole movie. Hey, that’s kinda like UT’s 2008 offense…
As far as contacting coaches, the whole thing will be handled through agents right now. The coaches’ agents maintain contact with coaches to see if they might have interest in a job. If so, the agents will handle everything up until the final edits without the coach ever lifting a phone. One day, they’ll get a call asking if they want to review an offer for x dollars at y school for z years. If the coach is amenable to fine-tuning the contract, they can then announce a “tentative agreement” if they choose to. But even that is very unlikely to happen (for any candidate) for a while. It takes time, and agents know better than to ram this down a coach’s throat too fast. If an agent gets too aggressive and causes disruptions in a coach’s current gig, the coach will find a new agent.
Long story short, even if Hamilton is pursuing Leach, they haven’t spoken yet. And they won’t for a while; there’s just no need for it yet.
