Hamilton...

I am scared to death he will hire a Kelly or a guy like him. We need someone with proven EXPLOSIVENESS!

by BigBeefe on Nov 22, 2008 2:19 PM EST up reply actions

Leach. Leach. Yes.

Hope so. But we’ll have to trust him whatever choice he makes, that he made it b/c he considered all of the right factors and did what he thought was best. I just hope, based on what I think I know, that it’s Leach.

Go Vols!

Is John Chavis auditioning, as well?

Chris Low said he is using an “array of different looks and blitzes.”

People like to pin the UCLA loss on the defense, but the defense gave us 7 interceptions, and we still lost. I’m not sure how that is the defense’s fault. We should have at least gotten 21 points (3 × 7) off of those interceptions.

I really wouldn’t mind if John Chavis stuck around.

by rblakeh on Nov 22, 2008 2:19 PM EST reply actions

Slacking Zones Killed us...

Chavis D did great in that first half but UCLA adjusted in the second and Chavis kept the scheme the same… It was heartbreaking to watch.

by BigBeefe on Nov 22, 2008 2:21 PM EST up reply actions

I think your keyboard might be broke.

It’s replacing “4” with “7”. UCLA only had 4 turnovers.

by wvvol on Nov 22, 2008 2:22 PM EST up reply actions

Woops

Is that any worse than losing with 4, though?

by rblakeh on Nov 22, 2008 2:24 PM EST up reply actions

Not really. BUT

EB would have had 2 more and no way he doesn’t return one for a TD so we would have won for sure. Or something like that.

by wvvol on Nov 22, 2008 2:28 PM EST up reply actions

Hey, guess what?

Short passes into the LB zones…

by David Hooper on Nov 22, 2008 2:24 PM EST reply actions

Uh, yeah

Noticing that. Sheesh.

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 2:24 PM EST up reply actions

Tennessee's defense is so good

When they get a pick, they turn into a quality offense. You might be right – John’s auditioning.

by tennesseetarheel on Nov 22, 2008 2:24 PM EST reply actions

Hey, tennesseetarheel

Welcome. I think you’re right. Our defense may have been our best offense this year.

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 2:25 PM EST up reply actions

Whoever made the comment

about our DBs looking frustrated after each play without a pick is spot on. You have to admire that.

by ChattVol on Nov 22, 2008 2:26 PM EST reply actions

The Berry INT return yard record watch is officially ON, btw.

IIRC, he now has 487. Buckley had 501 in his career.

15 to go for solo first place!

by David Hooper on Nov 22, 2008 2:26 PM EST reply actions

Excellent

Could happen at any time.

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 2:27 PM EST up reply actions

Got a link to it?

I’m not doubting, but I like to have references when I write on things like that.

by David Hooper on Nov 22, 2008 2:37 PM EST up reply actions

Haven't followed the link yet

But if that’s right, you’ve just fact-checked the official UT site, so kudos to you.

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 2:42 PM EST up reply actions

Thanks.

I see the problem. He’s D-II. That’s why everybody reports Buckley’s number.

But again, thanks.

by David Hooper on Nov 22, 2008 2:48 PM EST up reply actions

That FG at the end of the first half is why I'm glad Fulmer and this crew is gone.

10 seconds and you don’t have a play to try to score a TD? 20 points is not much better than 17. 3 TDs still catches you. Goodbye, sirs!

by wvvol on Nov 22, 2008 2:27 PM EST reply actions

Let me know if you're ever in K-Vegas

I get very curious to meet you, sometimes.

(But not in that creepy stalker sort of way, natch. I’m thinking cup of coffee at a Cracker Barrel or something.)

by David Hooper on Nov 22, 2008 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

Will do!

I’d like that. Don’t get back much, but next time we’ll set something up.

by wvvol on Nov 22, 2008 2:30 PM EST up reply actions

North Carolina

Down by 14 late in the 3rd to North Carolina State.

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 2:33 PM EST reply actions

I'll say this for Chavis

He might be the best First Half DC in the nation. That’s all I got.

by wvvol on Nov 22, 2008 2:33 PM EST reply actions

So

Do we run Creer or do we revert to our old ways?

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 2:34 PM EST reply actions

Hmm

Okay. A mixture of both. Run Creer . . . and get nothing. Call it a compromise.

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 2:34 PM EST up reply actions

Oh

That G-Gun play would have been quite good if Cooper hadn’t fallen down.

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 2:35 PM EST reply actions

Hey, thought to the future for you all:

The Kentucky game will not only be Fulmer Day, it’ll be Senior Day.

Let your imagination run on that one.

by David Hooper on Nov 22, 2008 2:36 PM EST reply actions

Argh!

At least we got the time out, but man that was close.

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 2:36 PM EST reply actions

How good is the SEC Championship Game going to be?

I think it’s quite possibly a blowout by the Gators.

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 2:40 PM EST reply actions

I got the same feeling

An underestimated Ole miss gave the Gators the wakeup they needed. They’ve been playing consistently better than Bama the past weeks

You know

When you use five QBs, you’re just asking for 5 years’ worth of rookie QB mistakes. Everybody has to learn their own lesson, no?

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 2:51 PM EST reply actions

So does Coleman stay in

next series, given that Crompton stayed in after his pick?

Are you kidding?

That’s one mistake. Mistakes mean benching.

So the answer is obviously . . .

. . . who knows?

It certainly would be another glaring example of favoring the upperclassmen . . .

Heh.

And Rogan STILL can’t get past the kicker…

Duh, duh, duh

Please do not run the X-gun any more unless you’re going to pass. No more.

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 2:55 PM EST reply actions

The g-gun / wild berry isn’t going to work if you can’t keep the defense honest – you can’t just let the qb run it all the time.

"I' m not from England but my money still comes in pounds"

by G.M.U. Vol on Nov 22, 2008 2:55 PM EST reply actions

OK, so even the best playmaker in college football

can’t run when the world knows you’re going to run.

Duh, duh. Ugh. Gritting teeth.

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 2:56 PM EST reply actions

The thing is, the offensive coaches know all this.

They know that an obvious run play is going to be at a serious disadvantage. I have no idea what’s holding them back from throwing the pass. Even an intentional throwaway helps keep the defense honest and is no worse.

by David Hooper on Nov 22, 2008 2:57 PM EST reply actions

Yeah but you risk an interception run back for a… oh, oh, yeah.

by CornFromAJar on Nov 22, 2008 2:58 PM EST up reply actions

I was thinking "17th row in the stands" throwaway.

Just anything that says we might pass. Even if it’s a bluff.

by David Hooper on Nov 22, 2008 3:02 PM EST up reply actions

They're going to run it

and fail to the point where the defense will have to expect a pass.

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 3:03 PM EST up reply actions

It's amazing

I was ready for this game at the beginning just to be a way to spend the day. No real chance of winning. Then, hope in the first half. Now, back to dashing those hopes. Seriously, what can they be thinking?

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 2:58 PM EST up reply actions

That's what's frustrating

Fulmer was right – they didn’t just get stupid . . . but what the heck is going on – there is just no continuity and no faith in a leader on our offense

"I' m not from England but my money still comes in pounds"

by G.M.U. Vol on Nov 22, 2008 2:58 PM EST up reply actions

Shotgun with Berry or Jones and 5 wide...

Then they just run away from defenders and throw it as far as they can…

by BigBeefe on Nov 22, 2008 3:01 PM EST reply actions

Did you see that?

Is one of the Vandy signals “gag me”? The guy stuck his tongue out and jabbed his finger toward his mouth. What play could that be?

;-)

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 3:05 PM EST reply actions

I know it sounds crazy, but

I think we can use the most clock with 3 kneel downs and a shanked punt that rolls 30 yards.

by wvvol on Nov 22, 2008 3:11 PM EST up reply actions

Hooper

with the new clock rules can we run 14:00 off the clock with 4 plays?

by wvvol on Nov 22, 2008 3:13 PM EST up reply actions

LOL

In all seriousness, you can run about 3 minutes off with a 3-and-out.

Apologies to wvvol

I’ve been taking your “three kneel downs and a shanked punt” as sarcasm. It’s not, is it? It’s actually our best offensive plan? Wow.

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Nov 22, 2008 3:15 PM EST reply actions

Even Brandon James

can’t return a shanked punt for a TD.

by wvvol on Nov 22, 2008 3:20 PM EST up reply actions

Eric Berry could. He can now bend space-time. Put the defense in place of special teams and he’s golden.
