I am hearing the same thing thru my Chattanooga grapevine.

Kiffin on December 1st.

Now beat Kentucky’s ass. We don’t need any more streaks broken.

When I see it

Ill believe it.

Ive heard the same thing up in the tri-cities…but it all means jack till I hear it from the mouth of someone with actual ties to the university.

Welcome!

Bring your dad (as DC) and the Orgeron (as D-line coach/recruiting director/Cajun madman) with you and I say, "Welcome, Coach Kiffin!

Gotta start with someone.

May as well be Kiffin.

It may take a coach or two to find a good one. Think of the Gaytors (Zook) and Bammer (Dubose, Price [sorta], Franchione, Shula, did I forget any?).

Well....

In the minds of most Bama fans you forgot Stallings, Curry, and Perkins.

Lol.

Hehe. True

but I was giving Stallings credit for winning a NC.

So....

Is Kiffin’s offense West Coastish?

by Hooper on Nov 25, 2008 8:56 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

He was at Oakland

Where offense doesn’t exist. The only offense Al Davis knows is the deep ball. So, I would say that we don’t know. But others may be more educated on Kiffin than I am.

The best guess would be his USC days.

Nobody should account for anything from his Oakland experience. The interference from the owner makes it too hard to accurately gauge Kiffin. At best, you can say that he had the respect of NFL players who were older than him. That does say something, even if it was simply that they liked a guy who wasn’t afraid of Al Davis.

by Hooper on Nov 25, 2008 9:29 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

So I was solidly entrenched in the Brian Kelly bandwagon, and I have to say that there are some obvious questions I have here.

How much are we gonna pay a guy who has 2 years of coordinator experience, and just got canned after a year and a half as a head coach? I know Al Davis is nuts and all that, but I’m really not sold on this hire yet.

Seems like a lot of folks are trying to prop this up with talk about who all he is bringing with him too.

I dunno, I’ll still cheer on my Vols, and once the announcement is made Kiffin will be my head coach, but he has been the guy I didn’t want all through this search.

I am not positive on this

But I think that all of the “next stops” made by ex Oakland coaches were very successful. Mike Shanahan comes to mind.

Bill Callahan too.

Not tryin to be a total downer. Im excited too. Just skeptical at the moment.

Not to mention that my dad went to Alabama, I was a bama fan from like 1985-2004 when i enrolled at UT. Im kind of scarred from those years, when it comes to coaching hires lol.

Good point

Like I said, I can’t remember the full list, but I remember Sportscenter doing a brief segment on how Kiffin’s stock will actually go up by being fired by Davis as [insert list of coaches I can’t remember] went on to have a lot of success at their next stops.

My advice would be to ignore the Oakland months.

There are things that can be learned from them, but it’s too easy to let that experience drive you insane trying to figure out what was Kiffin and what was Kim Jong Al.

Perhaps consider his tenure at USC, add in a few lessons learned as a head coach, and leave it at that. As for me, I have no clue what to think of Kiffin either. I guess we’ll find out if we’ll find out soon enough.

by Hooper on Nov 25, 2008 9:32 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Do we know much about his tenure at USC?

From what I understand, there was usually another OC calling most of the shots.

And recruiting in LA to get guys to come to USC isn’t exactly something to brag about. I think even I could accomplish that, and I’m far from charismatic. Most of the recruits are a huffy ride away. I’m reminded of Pete Carrol’s (fictional) dating advice…

“Treat her like someone special. Pour on the charm. Then once you get a commitment for a second date, make it clear that you have seven other bombshells lined up if she doesn’t put out.”

Oakland is a free pass for any coach! Nobody pays attebtion to that job. I like the Kiffin Idea. He is the only coach in the latest Oakland debacle that actually got his guys to play hard every day. He got a bum deal in Oakland! He can recruit at a big time school. Wasn’t he the recruiting coordinator at USC? Pretty similiar state of football there, with much nicer facilities. He’d go there in a second, if UT really wants him there. My only hesitation is his style of offense is similiar to what Fulmer ran. Pro Style??? Does it really work in college football anymore? Maybe in the Pac-10? Not in the SEC

Ask Nick Saban if a pro-style offense works in the SEC

I think he’ll give you a Heck Yeah… and he’s got the record to back it up.

As Hooper mentioned, none of the RTT uniform design entries went with the black shirts and orange pants, like we saw against that team coached by Spurrier this past weekend.

So I gave it a very quick stab. One thing I couldn't figure out in the short amount of time I took to do this was how to get the "T" on the helmet when designing your own helmet. Others had done it in the contest...I couldn't figure it out.
