Jackson the Mule says . . .
Jackson the Mule
. . . Trrrradition!

bobo_the_vol wins the season's final Hail Mary Haiku with the following ode to The Papa:

Some remember Phil
For the past couple of years
And forget the good.

Me? I barely know
Of Manning, the Golden Age
of UT football.

I will always see
"And pandemonium reigns"
When I think of thee.

It seemed destiny
When "he stumbled and fumbled",
We held the crystal.

Seek Phil’s legacy
In the eyes of his players
Game Ball goes to Phil.

Rusty's a-Twitterin' from the game, so I thought we'd try to keep up with his Twitter feed, with his permission. Don't know if it'll work or not, but here's the attempt:

I'm doubting that that's going to auto-update, so here's Rusty's Twitter page, just in case.

[Note by Joel, 11/29/08 3:05 PM EST ] Hey, looky there. It is updating. Nifty.

And by UF / FSU

I mean Alabama / Auburn. Oops.

Uh-oh, Iron Bowl's about to kick off....

There’s about to be a business in new TVs in Alabama if they don’t fix that.

We’re back home now.

FYI, rusty’s a classy guy. We had a great time meeting up with him.

I think Stefano's is.

C.P. was a victim of the new smoking laws. They couldn’t survive without the under 21 crowd, but they could survive as a nonsmoking joint either.

I was more a Stefano's than CP guy

But it’s always sad when that sort of thing happens anyway.

Hooper

How was the vibe on campus today?

Are people turning out for Fulmer’s last dance?

I, unfortunately, am stuck in my office 6 hours away getting ready for another trial.

At least I managed to get my goodbye post up (finally).

I left the area around 2:45ish, so I'm not 100% sure about how it is now.

It was very quiet where I was. Then again, I never really ventured into the heart of it all. But the rain seemed to be keeping things, um, dampened.

If it’s any indication, traffic was very light.

In the Big 12 fiasco watch:

The Kansas win over Missouri helps Oklahoma over Texas a tad. Texas played both Missouri and Kansas, so it’s really a wash for them. However, OU played only Kansas, so it’s a bit of a binnie for them in the computers.

As close as that knot is, that game just might matter.

by hooper on Nov 29, 2008 5:03 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Peter says the KU loss actually hurt Texas

for those same reasons, FWIW.

More Big 12 fiasco watch:

In Colley’s Matrix, playing the hypotheticals and having Texas, FLorida, Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas Tech all win, Oklahoma’s ranking jumps from 21 to 23. That alone raises their computer score from 0.900 to 0.910. That in turn cuts the margin between Texas and OU from 0.84 to 0.51. So the other games will play a significant factor in things.

If either Colley or Sagarin drop their Texas rating from first place, Oklahoma will most likely overtake them. If not, it’s probably too close to tell at this point.

Isn’t this fun? And people want a lousy, boring playoff. Psshhawwwww…

by hooper on Nov 29, 2008 5:32 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No.

It also doesn’t include the Arkansas loss, which helps Texas.

Colley’s hypothetical only allows up to 5 changes.

by hooper on Nov 29, 2008 5:36 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yes.

by “21 to 23”, that really means from 5th to 3rd. I was using the points there.

by hooper on Nov 29, 2008 5:47 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

True

I changed the TTU game to the Kansas / Missouri game, though.

by Graysnail on Nov 29, 2008 5:48 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ah.

I also tried using the 5 wins for Kansas, Clemson, Georgia Tech, LSU and Cincinnati. That moves Oklahoma ahead of Florida as well.

I’m beginning to think that Texas is in trouble if Tech somehow finds a way to win.

by hooper on Nov 29, 2008 5:50 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Cincinnati wins?

Man, you’re twisting the knife here, aren’t you?

And I think Texas was going to be toast if TTU won regardless.

by Graysnail on Nov 29, 2008 5:51 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That win was relevant.

Cincy played OU earlier. The extra win helps Oklahoma.

by hooper on Nov 29, 2008 5:52 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Good point.

I had forgotten about that, somehow. I don’t have my Cincinnati whiteboard with me right now. ;)

by Graysnail on Nov 29, 2008 5:55 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Should also add:

Assuming those 5 all win, Oklahoma has a chance to move into #2 in Colley if their opponents have a better day than Florida’s opponents. That would give OU another 0.1, which would cut the margin down to 0.18. At that point, you’d have to assume that the other computers would show OU some more love as well, and it’s probably lights-out for Texas.

That brings teams like Georgia and South Carolina into the mix.

So…whodathunk that Texas would be upset that the mighty SEC is having a down year? ;-)

by hooper on Nov 29, 2008 5:40 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I want playoffs ...

and my team is #2 in the FCS playoff field.

by bobo_the_vol on Nov 29, 2008 6:04 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Way unrelated...

TTU’s Crabtree has been carted off the field. Baylor in scoring position leading 21-14.

by ChattVol on Nov 29, 2008 5:38 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Of course,

a Baylor win throws all my hypothetical mumbo-jumbo out the window. Texas has the straight-up tiebreaker.

by hooper on Nov 29, 2008 5:41 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'd rather see OU I think.

I get very tired of the Texas political machine. And honestly, OU has impressed me more than Texas.

by hooper on Nov 29, 2008 5:51 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Texas has gotten really annoying lately

But I like the “Oklahoma hasn’t had a decent BCS game since 2000” argument … and if you saw the 2000 game, even that’s debatable.*

Texas: Because Oklahoma’s Gonna Find Some Way to Look Terrible in a BCS Game.

*I’m ignoring 2004.

by Graysnail on Nov 29, 2008 5:52 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Funny that may be, it's irrelevant.

Every year, every team is new. I feel that if you’re arguing that your present team should be favored because of an opponent’s team of a previous year, you’re harming your argument.

by hooper on Nov 29, 2008 5:57 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs
