Just got off the phone with a source
He heard the news of Fulmer resigning about a half hour before ESPN broke it and said he'll phone with any other news.
He's heard four names thrown around as potential replacements for Coach Fulmer:
- Mike Leach
- Lane Kiffin
- Todd Graham/Gus Malzahn (he just knew "the guy from Tulsa")
- Butch Davis
I will vouch that this source does know someone in the program. I will not however say that you should take this list as anything other than unsubstantiated, second hand, single-sourced rumor. Because that's exactly what it is.
And besides, people as far up as coordinators may not have any idea what the hell is going on right now, much less my source's insider.

WHY WHY WHY WHY
Are you guys obsessed with Cowher? What about him thinks he will be a good college coach. Though it pains me to say it but if UT wants to successful again they need to go out and find a coach that has college experience. Especially one who understands the SEC. Spurrier is too old and to near the end of his coaching career. So stop dreaming about it. Just take it from a fan who knows a few things about his team hiring new coaches.
Either go with Youth or Experience (SEC Experience)
When you are an Alabama fan you have to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because i want to.

Evidently, the obsession bothers you.
Isn’t that enough reason? ;-)

Now, a serious response.
I haven’t heard Cowher’s name mentioned as any kind of a coaching candidate other than by fans of particular schools (UT, Clemson, etc.) Until I hear the ESPNs, CNNSIs, etc. of the world mention him, I will disregard him as an option – regardless of any potential.
I think he is enjoying his commentating gig too much right now.

I was doing my "Vol Calls caller impression."
I guess sarcasm is not evident through the internets.

Sarcasm is tough to do on the Interwebs
But I thought it sounded oddly familiar. And I can laugh at how typical my post sounded.

Glad to not see Will Muschamp's name on the list
Too much John Chavis Prevent Defense in the last 1:30 Saturday. Seen that nightmare many times before.

I'm starting to think that 'insiders' know about as much as we do
I just read an article where players were speculating about Jon Gruden or Lane Kiffen taking over.

Gruden will be expensive. Exciting, but expensive.
No doubt he’ll need to be the highest-paid coach in the NCAA. He’s won a Super Bowl! I think he got about $4.3 million last year from what I can find on the Net. Not sure why he would leave the Bucs. They’re looking pretty likely to be in the playoffs. Great comeback against the Chiefs yesterday.
Lane Kiffin, I’m not sure about. I know Al Davis is probably a little cuckoo, but I want to see how this Kiffin vs Raiders thing pans out. Would his Dad (another Buc coach) come with him?

As a Georgia fan, I will say . . .
. . . that no one on that list scares me.
Frankly, I think Tennessee can do better and I’ll be very surprised if the Vols don’t go with some young up-and-coming coach who’s not a big name, but is a good hire.

I hope you're right
None of the names on that list really do it for me either. Just reporting what I heard…
