I really, really don't want to install Silverlight, hence the question.
Might as well head that off at the pass.

i hear ya
there’s always something “new” and / or improved that you have to install. any friend of mine that forwards me some junk with Silverlight automatically gets spammed. I’ve had enough of downloading software just to see stupid pet tricks.
" Whatcha got ain't nothin new. This country's hard on people, you can't stop what's coming, it ain't all waiting on you. That's vanity. "

Try the Sports Animal
http://www.sportsanimal99.com/
They will probably stream the audio. But I think CBS has exclusive rights to the video, so you’re stuck with Silverlight if you want to see it.
(Side note: Silverlight actually works very well, if you ever do decide to break down and install it. It plays quite nicely with Firefox, which is a huge relief.)
The Sports Animal is going to broadcast the news conference
But they may run into licensing issues with streaming it. But it’s definitely going to be on the radio.
They are having an interesting interview with the author of Meat Market right now.
Linked over
Just saw a picture of Mickey Dearstone for the first time. Not what I expected.
No names, though
They should’ve been wearing their jerseys. :)

That makes sense.
Remember the story of Kiffin golfing in Knoxville? I could see him being the lead guy in Hamilton’s mind for a while.
It looks like he is mostly talking to the players
Or at least in the direction of the players. His eyes keep going back to the area they gestured to as being where the players are.
Probably a coincidence.
Put a fence around the state of Tennessee
I think the state has been neglected by the previous staff. There actually is some talent here, believe it or not.
Aw, just because you don't know how many titles Tennessee will get doesn't mean you can't guarantee it!
That’s when the fun starts!

This guy is nervous
Does he always talk this fast?
Watch tomorrow's paper
John Adams will torch him. If he endorses him, get Mike Leach on the phone.
Gotta hand it to the guy
he’s got the answers down.
Davis will use it against him
to try to keep his money
Does Al Davis even notice if you bash him?
Figured you’d need to stake him.

Can he punk out Adams on his way out of the presser, too?

Missed his question
What was it and what was the response?
Ballsy.
Although “we’ll be good when we get good” could easily be the new “they were what they thought we were”.

Adams' article title:
“New Coach Kiffin Doesn’t Know How To Think.”

I thought it was a positive
But I’m an optimist. Well not really, but I am when it comes to UT football.
Wonder how much of this is press hostility over his age.
I don’t offer that flippantly, either.

Just typical press
Seemed like they were baiting him to dismiss Fulmer and tradition and everything. They keep asking him when he’s leaving in a roundabout way.
When I was talking to Hal Mumme he was saying the same thing, too.

I have no idea if this is sarcasm or not
I hope it’s not!

Here comes the speculation on him jumping back to the NFL in 3 years.
Or not. That was a change of course.
No kidding.
Can someone just ask him if he’ll take the Lions opening in three years and stop beating around the bush?

That's one of those "dumb" things to say in football
I mean, I know that most of us prefer for the left tackle to get 20 carries a game, but these new coaches are trying something different by putting the ball in the hands of the “playmakers.”
He's making it extremely clear that he is not going anywhere
This job isn’t just a stepping stone to him. Again, he could be lying, but he is speaking directly to the concerns of the majority of fans.
You don't want to say in your introductory press conference that you're leaving within 5 years, either.
Not saying he’s going to, but ….yeah, that’s a bad idea.
by Chris Pendley on Dec 1, 2008 2:35 PM EST up reply actions
Just saying
He’s making it specifically clear. He’s giving answers, not non denial denials.
Ya know, like his dad at Tampa Bay. “Ah it’s just all speculation…”
Let's hope the abs() isn't necessary
I’m not sure how negative speed works.
I like the philosophy though. Some guys aren’t fast when they are in full pads. Earl Bennett had a “slow” 40, but he didn’t lose any speed when he was in full pads.
btw
EDSBS apparently has a liveblog for the presser as well. afterwards, it might be interesting to see what the smartalecks think.
Monte Kiffin is coming to UT
He just gave it away. He is only retaining the guys for which he doesn’t “already have someone lined up” for their position.
The entire defensive staff was let go.
might not be able to say so until late january though
gonna be a looooooong time to keep people at bay on that one
The longer he waits
the more apparent it will become
Guaranteed
Unless the powers that be say he can’t, he’ll make his brother-in-law OC
Somebody called into Sports Talk today saying that Reaves his hated by his players at USCar
anyone know anything about this?
I heard the same feed
but I’ve not heard anything. The Giles kid seems to like him although he’s still a recruit
we'll have to wait to know.
But he’s been lauded as a terrific coaching mind. And his practices at Oakland were supposed to be extremely effective and well-run.
And undermined
But that wasn’t his fault.
by Chris Pendley on Dec 1, 2008 2:47 PM EST up reply actions
Maybe Haslam and Thunder
can leave the guy alone for a year or so.
Kiffin won't get any coffee until he closes.

And here's where I lose all remaining street cred.
(Well, I would if I had any.)
I’ll have to look that movie up. I haven’t heard of it.
(See, they were right when they said bloggers aren’t cool in person.)
In the topmost picture, the black line. It’s the same shape as the distribution to the poll answers in this post. (There are a lot of beta distribution shapes, but that particular one is the one I see the most.)
Cool, thanks
We did some stuff with cumulative distribution functions in an algorithm class, but I don’t remember much about it. I can’t remember if we did anything with probability distribution functions.
You probably did. CDFs are integrated PDFs.
They’re very intuitive as well, so you’d probably understand one as soon as you saw one without even realizing you were looking at one.
That beta distribution is effectively what a normal distribution becomes when one side is squished up against a limiting factor. Usually you see it when the mean is close to zero for something that can’t be negative, yet still tries to follow a normal distribution.
