Another QB "Doesn't fit the System"
Just saw on ESPN that Bryce Petty was also told he didn't fit Kiffins system. I never remember anything like this with other coaches letting the recruits know they don't fit and should look elsewhere. I do respect letting these guys know to look elsewhere just really weird the head coach decommits the players for them.
I wonder why he thinks he could work these guys into his system unless he already has a guy or two from this class that is going to make a splash in the recruiting trail.
Its not like Bryce was the elite prospect but just really confusing what is going on. I hope that Kiffin and Co. have a couple guys lined up to come in and make an impact in a year or two.

It's intriguing. (And thanks for the heads-up.)
There are basically two ways to spin this: one positive and one negative.
Positive: Kiffin knows what his system requires of a QB well enough to be very discriminating in his tastes. If he can’t see a guy working out, then it is actually better for both the QB and the Vols for the two to head in different directions; the QB can find a team where he’ll fit better, and the Vols don’t burn a scholly on a guy that likely won’t see much action anyhow. This is the Osborne doctrine of recruiting (though in Osborne’s case, he was avoiding the pro-style guys in favor of option QBs).
Negative: Kiffin is so sure of his system that he sees no need to adapt to the available talent. He’s operating under the assumption that the talent will indeed show up and all will work out. This falls under the Callahan-Weis doctrine of college football coaching.
Obviously we don’t know which way this will lean. It’s probably best to keep a wait-and-see attitude, especially since we’re all powerless to influence the process anyhow.

Thought running through my head when I read this
“I hope he knows what he’s doing.”
"Florida didnt win their first SEC title until 1991 and now they think they invented football."

I don't think we are in desperate need of a QB this year
Unless the guy is just outstanding. We’ve got a highly rated senior with a half year experience in Jon Crompton (who I still think could be good with the proper coaching). We’ve got a gunslinger in Nick Stephens who was never really given a fair shake. And we’ve got a hand picked (by David Cutcliffe, who knows a thing or two about quarterbacks) 3rd stringer in BJ Coleman.
I think he is telling these guys that they won’t see the field in the QB position. If they want to still come and play though, we’d be happy to have you. I’ll admit being a bit uneasy about the Tajh Boyd de-commit, but it’s likely that his skill set didn’t fit what Kiffin wants. So it looks to me like Kiffin is hoping to either land an already committed recruit or just wait it out until next year.
We’ll see.

I'm with you.
If we get zero QBs this time around, I’m ok with it. So long as (a) Crompton isn’t asked to memorize the entire Chinese writing system for the signal calling, (b) Stephens is actually given practice time if he’s expected to play, or © Coleman can bring his JV stats into the varsity league, the QB play should be significantly better this year than last. And that’d be with the same exact guys.

The comments on GVX are hilarious
Everyone is just so trusting of what CLK is doing. It doesn’t make sense to them, but they trust the coach. Can you imagine if CPF was the one doing this? Oh, the humanity.
