Them's the stats, although watching the two teams yesterday, I can't say I have much comfort that either team will hold to form. If anyone wants to calculate the expected scoring margin, have at it. Also, if you find the ESPN special on J.P. Prince online somewhere, let me know.

Scoring Margin
I get an expected scoring margin of:
UT  76
BU  72

But in the numbers, if the teams hold true, UT will have to guard Butler's 3-point shot very well.  They're trey-happy as well, and look like they can get hot from outside.

Yeah
And even if they miss them, we need to figure out how to rebound those bouncy missed treys or they'll just get another chance, like American did.
Go Vols!

Actually boxing out helps
But threes are the hardest to assure defensive rebounds.  They can take a lot of funny angles and end up in a lot of funny places.

by David Hooper on Mar 22, 2008 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions

My hope
is that we pound it inside and shoot the 3 when it's open.  Tyler and Wayne and Duke should be able to put up big numbers inside.  If we get into a 3 point shooting contest with them, we could lose pretty easily.  See Duke vs. WVU.  They fell into the trap of being too trigger happy from 3 and settling for jumpers rather than pounding inside and drawing fouls and getting layups.
Butler?! We don't need no stinkin' Butler!

I'm a huge fan
of working to draw fouls throughout a game.  With the added tension of tournament play, teams that get in foul trouble usually get off their game.  Pound the inside, get their interior into trouble, force their guards to defend the inside, and the 3-point opportunities will open themselves up.
