The key ingredient

is that the lead in both polls over #5 is substantial enough that winning out and a respectable showing in the tournament will keep the Vols in the top 4.  Obviously, the rankings don't decide the seedings, but every little piece of evidence in their favor is worth having - especially when you have the Duke-lovers just itching for a reason to put them in a #1 seed.

Otherwise, I don't have too much problem with the rankings.  I think UT should remain higher than UCLA on account of a substantially more difficult schedule and identical records, but I can easily see the argument for Memphis and UNC.

...our schedule is a lot tougher than Memphis'. That should matter, right?

True. It should.

I just meant that I can see the argument.  It's not completely out to lunch to put Memphis higher up right now, whether or not it's the appropriate place for them.
