The Lady Vols take on the Stanford Cardinal tonight in Tennessee's 13th NCAA Championship Game. Win tonight and Tennessee will have its eighth crown.

Will Shannon Bobbitt bust a pre-game rhyme? Will Candace Parker hit 60 percent of her shots despite playing the entire game in a straight jacket? Will Pat Summit serve BBQ raccoon for the pre-game meal?

Whatever the case, expect drama. No, expect DRAMA. No, expect HAMSTER DRAMA:

Yeah, now we're talking. Leave your pre-, in-, and post-game thoughts below.

Wiggins
I've never seen this Wiggins person play, but if Kara Lawson and that other commentator give her the edge over Parker, then she must be pretty good, even if it does account for Parker's bum shoulder.
Go Vols!

Remember Lady Vols, Just Keep Asking Yourself...
What would Brian Boitano do?

I have no idea why I write such things...

Sounds like a great game so far.
Got it on radio this time.  Someday I'll be able to get this "cable" thing I keep hearing about.

Next year you might not want to watch
LVs are losing a lot of talent this year.

Has Candace
always touched her left shoulder before free throws, or is that a new thing w/ the injury?
Go Vols!

Thanks
Really? I didn't know that. Other dislocations or something else?
Go Vols!

She said in a recent interview that joint problems
are common for her - that her joints are very loose.  She referred to herself as "Gumby" once.

by David Hooper on Apr 8, 2008 9:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Hmm
I thought that was Major Wingate's problem. It's contagious. He caught it from James Banks.
Go Vols!

So far, Stanford has an early edge on rebounds.
Summitt's not going to like that if it keeps up.  Hopefully that's all she'll be able to address during halftime, though.

by David Hooper on Apr 8, 2008 9:02 PM EDT reply actions

According to Holly Rowe . . .
Summit's already on it in the huddle.
Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Apr 8, 2008 9:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Harmon is getting punished out there.
TOs, fouls, all sorts of unpleasantry.  That'll rattle Stanford's bench.

Lady Vols looking good, hope they keep it up. GO VOLS

I kinda hope Bobbit gets MVP for the game.
I know it's early - too early - to look at such things, but it'd be a great going-away token for a lady who's meant far more than her height to this team.

by David Hooper on Apr 8, 2008 9:28 PM EDT reply actions

Gah.
Bobbitt.  I can spell that.  Honest.

by David Hooper on Apr 8, 2008 9:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Hey Joel,
Are we getting halftime stats, or do the stats sites not update in a timely fashion for the ladies?

Turnovers say it.
That's a lot of steals for one half.  Is Anosike on pace to get a double-double with points and steals?  Oh, I can only hope.

Summitt will still yell at them on rebounds.  UT is the bigger team and should be able to box out effectively.

by David Hooper on Apr 8, 2008 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, and
the branches on the tree appear to be sagging a bit.  A little fatigue setting in, perhaps?  One can hope.

by Joel Hollingsworth on Apr 8, 2008 9:45 PM EDT up reply actions

So the guys game started at 9:30
and this game started at 8:30.  Anybody know a good reason why?  The only thing I can come up with comes from the cynical neurons: the schedulers expected a West Coast team in the men's finals (gee, I wonder who) and not in the women's finals.

Candy battle
Which wins, M&Ms or Skittles? I say Skittles, cuz they're much less vulnerable to heat.
Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Apr 8, 2008 9:50 PM EDT reply actions

Ooh. Toughie.
But M&Ms have chocolate, which is an instant winner for almost any argument with a significant other of the feminine persuasion.

by David Hooper on Apr 8, 2008 9:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Roadkill
Poor Bobbitt. What a charge.
Go Vols!

You know
Good coaches fix things that are wrong. In one day.
Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Apr 8, 2008 9:55 PM EDT reply actions

thinking out loud
No, just an observation. Summit does a better job than most of fixing broke stuff. Last game, we had no offense without Parker. This game, everybody's involved. Fulmer's good, but slow to make adjustments. Even Pearl couldn't fix the point guard problem. It's just one game, and I'm sure one's ability to fix things depends on what's in the cupboard, but . . . .
Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Apr 8, 2008 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Very salient point.
I have often wondered exactly what kind of magic dust that Summitt sprinkles on her boot before firmly implanting her advice into her players.  Whatever she does, it's absolutely amazing.

by David Hooper on Apr 8, 2008 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Stanford's not going away.
The whistles aren't helping, either.  UT already has more fouls in this half than last half.

by David Hooper on Apr 8, 2008 10:04 PM EDT reply actions

Um
You know how your leg is supposed to bend when you land on it after a jump? It didn't bend.
Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Apr 8, 2008 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Ouch!
Sounds like it tried to go backwards but (fortunately) didn't completely yield.

Hope she's ok.

by David Hooper on Apr 8, 2008 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions

So many turnovers
Stanford has to be getting gunshy.

by David Hooper on Apr 8, 2008 10:22 PM EDT reply actions

You know
Parker looks like she's perfectly fine.
Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Apr 8, 2008 10:24 PM EDT reply actions

I agree
and she looks like she's not hurting either.

What's the theme here
Back to back? No. 8? Defense? Take aways? What's the story on this one?
Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Apr 8, 2008 10:39 PM EDT reply actions

More seriously, now.
Turnovers.  Pressure.  Fullcourt defense.  Imposition of will.  Effort on the glass.

Everything Summitt preaches every year, basically.

Question
With all of the basketball we've been watching the past month, has anyone actually felt compelled to drink a Coke Zero?
Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Apr 8, 2008 10:41 PM EDT reply actions

Diet Pepsi here
Drank Coke for about 30 years and had heartburn every day for last 10. Switched to Diet Pepsi and have had heartburn about 4 times in 5 years. But to answer your question, No, sir.

by wvvol on Apr 8, 2008 10:47 PM EDT up reply actions

It's the HFCS
High Fructose Corn Syrup.

It's cheaper than sugar, but it's nasty stuff for any extended dose.

Personally, I've moved away from soda altogether for the most part.  I have one every harvest moon or so, but it's usually just straight-up black truckstop coffee for me now.  Mmm...antioxidants...

by David Hooper on Apr 8, 2008 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

You're probably right.
I tried Diet Coke, but didn't like the taste. Same with regular Pepsi.

I'm going miss these Lady Vols
This was quite an assemblage of talent, heart, intelligence, and Big Orange willpower!

by wvvol on Apr 8, 2008 10:48 PM EDT reply actions

Well, have a good night.
Time for family quiet-down time.  Take care.

by David Hooper on Apr 8, 2008 10:51 PM EDT reply actions

I'll see you fine gentlemen in the fall

I've got a nearly-9 month old baby girl to chase around the house.

by wvvol on Apr 8, 2008 10:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Beautiful!
Takes after her mother, I'm guessing. And -- warning, math -- I figure she'll help Summitt get her 13th and 14th national championship, right?
Go Vols!
