Redskins recently cut Jerome Mathis and signed JT Mapu, who apparently impressed coaches at the beginning of this month after he was invited to a Redskins tryout. I know little about him besides the fact he took a season off to do missionary work (I like character) and was wondering if I could solicit opinions on him from knowledgeable Vols fans who would have an informed eye as to the potential of JT Mapu.
He joins a defensive line that has been criticized for want of young blood (Phillip Daniels at DE and Cornelius Griffin at DT are remarkably old NFL players) and could push for a spot, although he'll have to leap frog some competent people. Again, I don't know much about him, but I do know the Skins are returning five guys from last year's unit which means space is scarce. Best of luck to him.
What do the Redskins have in JT Mapu?
