Jackson the Mule says . . .

Duel On!

Yes, Jackson, duel on. Tennessee could pull off the upset if they meet three goals: control the A and B gaps on both offense and defense, win on third down defense, and punt safe. It's been well-re-hashed that the team that runs best wins. Yes, we might have discovered our identity as a primarily rushing team against UAB. On the other hand, we've not run well against the Gators recently. On the other other hand, the defensive line coach that's given us so much trouble the last three years for the Gators is gone, and the team appears to be highly motivated to avenge last year's dishumiliarrassment. So yeah, this could be a game. Maybe.

rustytanton wins this week's Hail Mary Haiku (and gets a point for the RTT Guessing Game) with the following:

Just kidding before,
about the Clawfense you saw,
here is the real one.

awesome!

I think this the first HMH I’ve won. I have been slack on the points game though. Guess there’s still time to submit them this week.

DHS will not let me watch the game on CBS Sportsline!

I’m at work, we have 8 monitors dedicated to world events. You would think there would be just a little leniency so that we could watch at least one football game.

Ah yes, must remain vigilant…

You guys are going to have to keep me posted on the happenings. Once again I’ll have to constantly refresh my blog because for some reason my computer just doesn’t like Rocky Top Talk.

By the way...

I imagine that today’s thread will have to be split into three separate threads if we have max participation AND if the majority of loyal bloggers aren’t at the game. You can expect at least 500 posts from me.

1. score this td
2. hold them for the rest of this half
3. get one more score before the half to make it a 1 score game. (17-10, or 17-14)

Won that third down

Are they going for it on 4th?

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Sep 20, 2008 4:40 PM EDT reply actions

I would.

If they got it, this game would be over.

They ought to

Jump pass is good for 6 yards at least.

Yep, they do

and false start that looked like offsides. Lucky call for us.

Ole Miss, Arkansas, South Carolina, and now Tennessee

SEC middlers. Non-factors. Non-big names. Blah football. We’ve officially joined mediocrity.

Cannons... fire them.

Not Arkansas.

They’re beyond mediocrity right now.

But boy, is that searching the garbage for a pearl…

by David Hooper on Sep 20, 2008 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know

my point is…. we can’t be considered a program worth a fart anymore. Uninspiring, ineffective offenseve package circa 1994 and inexplicable defensive packages with games on the line. It can’t be sugar coated anymore.

Arizona is NOT the worst team in the Pac-10.

They might be in the top 5 for all we know. The Washington schools are much worse.

It's not like the game is tied with 3 seconds left

They’re up by 17, why are these announcers trying to make it like the kicker has some pressure on him?

7-minute drive.

lotsa small ball and one big hit. That’s about as perfect as you can hope for.

Meyer definitely has Chavis’s number.

Thanks for kicking the field goal.
20 down is a nice even number.

Interception

The guy was open.

Of course, that’s easy when FL has 12 guys on the field.

Still, Crompton missed a TD by underthrowing. Another shot, though.

true, but I think it is directed at Mike Hamilton (AD) and the direction of the program.
More than just the game at hand.

by highlifeman on Sep 20, 2008 5:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe so, but...

There’s a way to send a message to the AD on the direction of the program. Send him a letter, email, anthrax (joke)…anything but don’t boo while your team is on the field.

As for the game, I’m sure some of those boos were centered around being down 20 points going into halftime. Just my opinion.

"You're Dixie's Football Pride, Crimson Tide - Roll Tide, Roll Tide!"

some of the backstory is students being charged for tickets for the first time.

disappointing loss at UCLA

20,000 or so short of a sell out at the home opener
AD says gas prices and HD led to that.

I think the writing is on the wall.

Great school, great program, wrong direction.
Clawson may be the lipstick on the pig.
Just some analogy I learned while buying last house.
