"At the time, it was getting frustrating and I definitely said some things I didn't need to say. I said, 'Well, this is the last thing I'm going to say to you,' and now I've forgotten totally what I even said. She was like, 'This is the last thing I'm going to tell you. You ain't got to worry about me anymore. I'm going to drive my car into this river.' I was like, 'Why are you going to drive your car into the river? Why would you do that?' She was like, 'There's no reason for living if we're not going to be together.' I was like, 'Well, you've got plenty of things to live for. You've lived 18 years before and will probably live another 70.' And the next thing I heard was her screaming and the phone went out."

Wow
Ahmad Paige was on the phone when the girlfriend he was trying to break up with drove her car into the river and killed herself.
I simply cannot imagine going through that. Some of you may recall that I was on the phone with my wife when she and my two girls got into a car accident last December or so. Exclamations, noise, then screams. A horrible few seconds to register what’s happening.
And they were okay. Paige has the added burdens of death, finality, and (undeserved) guilt.
This brings Paige’s marijuana possession just a few weeks later into a bit more context. We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating. We must be careful what we say about these guys. You never know when one of them is going through something like this or battling cancer like Chris Lofton was last year at this time. Prayers for Paige.
Go Vols!

Wow
Can’t think of anything else to say.
Death is that one abyss we never look into if we can help it. But when we’re forced to, it can disrupt (or even destroy) the fragile balance we have on our sense of normalcy. I agree; it’s hard to be very judgmental over his incident after something like that. When we didn’t know about the incident, the marijuana seemed like just another immature act by a team member. It might simply have been an immature act, but it might also have been a reaction.
Either way, it sounds like he’s taking the steps needed to carry on.
Prayers for Paige, indeed. And for her family.

Yeah, I don't have a subscription either,
but if it was important enough for a quote across the divide, I have no doubt that the essence is there.
