Scouting Report: Games of the Bye Week
Like last week, here is your general discussion thread for non-UT football games. That should be simple this week since UT has a bye. This is a very relaxed thread; if you see something that interests you, toss a quick line this direction. We're not expecting huge community conventions or anything, but we'd like to know what you're seeing around the league. Does Auburn's offense look any better or worse than ours? Did Vanderbilt look good enough to give UT a serious run for their money? Inquiring fans want to know!

Recruiting battle in the Sunshine State
Would absolutely love to see Miami at least give Florida a good game and mitigate the Gators’ recruiting advantage in FL.

i'll be watching Auburn this morning
i am actually a booger alum…and they are hands down this native Vol’s (2nd) favorite team in the SEC.
I hope to report at halftime that Todd is throwing to Auburn receivers today. Also, freshman RB Eric Smith is a beast waiting to rise and destroy.

Don't really know what to make of Vandy-Steve Spurrier
I missed the 1st half and then fell asleep trying to stay up for the 4th quarter.
From what little I saw, Vandy appeared terribly outmanned from a talent perspective (no surprise there). But they’re scrappy, and if you make a bunch of mistakes against them like Steve Spurrier did, it could bite you.
And I know someone who made a lot of mistakes in their first game…

Game plan against Tebow
on display, courtesy of Miami. Pressure. More pressure, and still more pressure.

The game turned when the refs got involved
That overturned call was ridiculous. If they had the same views ESPN had, there’s no way to tell if he still had control of the ball when his elbow hit the ground. No way to tell = No way to overturn the incomplete call on the field. I don’t know why any visiting team would allow the home team to use its conference’s referees (BYU vs Washington notwithstanding). Put it in the contract that “we bring our refs or we get some other conference’s refs, but you ain’t using your home-cooked referees.”
Also Miami Offensive Coordinator, Patrick Nix, might have a little Chavis blood in him. He went into the prevent offense with Miami down 7-3 in the 2nd quarter, the result: a blocked punt for a safety.

quick notes on Auburn
Chris Todd looked a bit more comfortable this week prolly due to getting all the practice snaps with Burns sidleined with a shin gash.
He threw for 250+.
Auburn would have scored in the 40s without two first quarter red zone fumbles and two penalties taking TDs off the board.
Robert Dunn had a punt return called back…he is shifty and can accelerate quickly.
Ben Tate, Brad Lester and freshman Eric “Little Rudi (Johnson)” Smith all looked good, and all fumbled once i think.
Auburn runs wild out of this Tony Franklin offense…we’ll see how the misdirection and sideline stuff works in the SEC.
I think the Vols will have an advantage with their secondary over the young AU receievers and QBs.
The Auburn defense under Will “Boom Motherf*&%er” Muschamp replacement Paul Rhoads is nasty…as usual.
The AU secondary was a bit suspect in the second half against USM’s HUGE TE and 5* freshman WR.
Thats all i got.
