Kevin Stallings won't do anything that a______ does.

We don’t recruit good players here, nor win games on the road against in-state rivals.

I am the worse for that.

The Mrs. is now ticked that I showed her the video. Hopefully that kind of motivation brings out ANGRY HULK SMASH tonight…

I have the TV on mute right now...

But I’m gonna assume Jay Bilas is saying something condescending about us. Once again, hooray for Jimmy Dykes on site.

Yes

Really like Dykes better doing color than in the studio. Not that he doesn’t do a good job at both places, but we hear a lot more of the color guy, so yeah, he’s better there.

If he's thinking about the NBA

I guarantee you the scouts want to see him do that more than they want to see him shooting threes.

by Will Shelton on Jan 20, 2009 9:31 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah

One thing I wonder about, though, is as much as us fans complain about Wayne taking those threes, you almost never hear Pearl complain about it. I think he likes the fact that Wayne takes a few. He can hit them, but even more than that, even if he misses, at least the big guarding him is taken out of the paint.

Go Vols!

by Joel Hollingsworth on Jan 20, 2009 9:33 PM EST up reply actions

Well...

Shot selection has never been something that Bruce has really worried about too much.

by lawvol98 on Jan 20, 2009 9:35 PM EST up reply actions

I think it is more,

when Chism chooses to shoot 3’s. He is much more effective shooting them when he catches the ball already facing the basket, either trailing the play or on the drive and kick.

No wonder we lost all our football graduate assistants. More room for coaches!

by David Hooper on Jan 20, 2009 9:58 PM EST reply actions

It was bound to happen

Someone in essence paying to UT to coach there. Are 50+ year old graduate assistants common?

by wvvol on Jan 20, 2009 10:00 PM EST up reply actions

No. Usually they're pretty creepy when you see them.

But I’m guessing this is a different situation. With Syracuse’s recent history, it’s probably wise for them to send a guy to learn from actual coaches for a while, if for no other reason than to erase the last few years of memory.

by David Hooper on Jan 20, 2009 10:01 PM EST up reply actions

Good point.

He’s had a lot of losing (Minnesota and Syracuse) since he coached with Monte at NC State.

And I STILL want to know why Vandy makes the 3-fingered V!

I prefer to think of it as:

Two for the “V” and one to salute.

It makes it easier to root against them that way. ;-)

by David Hooper on Jan 20, 2009 10:07 PM EST up reply actions

That is disappointing.

I was hoping it had to do with a “W” being pronounced as a “V” in German. That would lead to all kinds of implications about Stallings.

by David Hooper on Jan 20, 2009 10:17 PM EST up reply actions

Yep

I think Will (it was Will, right?) nailed it earlier. If Vandy’s good, they’re good down low. Not guard-good. That’s where we’re bad. Of course, he said it much better than that. Because some people have a way with words. Other people . . . not have way.

Having seen 25 minutes of this

It wasn’t just that their best player was a center, not a guard…it’s the way that Chism appears to own Ogilvy.

Theyr'e shooting 20%

And they’ve missed a literal handful of the same wide open threes we’ve been giving up to others. And we’re up 11…seems like it should be more.

11:00 PM doorbells come with the job description

Actually, it was a kid who left his coat in my car on our retreat last weekend. And since it’s -2 outside with 4 inches of snow here, I didn’t chastise him.

I’ll be getting up at 5:00 to drive to Chattanooga to pick up a piano. Likely will not be doing a post-game. If anyone’s interested, have at it.

Great game, guys. Great thread, folks. See ya next time.

Go Vols!

And really, picking up a piano at 5:00 AM beats the doorbell at 11:00 PM
