Kevin Stallings won't do anything that a______ does.
We don’t recruit good players here, nor win games on the road against in-state rivals.
I am the worse for that.
The Mrs. is now ticked that I showed her the video. Hopefully that kind of motivation brings out ANGRY HULK SMASH tonight…
I have the TV on mute right now...
But I’m gonna assume Jay Bilas is saying something condescending about us. Once again, hooray for Jimmy Dykes on site.
Yes
Really like Dykes better doing color than in the studio. Not that he doesn’t do a good job at both places, but we hear a lot more of the color guy, so yeah, he’s better there.

The UTSports radio broadcast is LOUD.
I’ve got my computer at minimum volume and the radio feed at minimum volume (short of mute), and I wish there was a quieter setting yet.

If this keeps up for a while longer, we'll get to see if the team has killer instinct.
Or will they go slack?

If he's thinking about the NBA
I guarantee you the scouts want to see him do that more than they want to see him shooting threes.
by Will Shelton on Jan 20, 2009 9:31 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah
One thing I wonder about, though, is as much as us fans complain about Wayne taking those threes, you almost never hear Pearl complain about it. I think he likes the fact that Wayne takes a few. He can hit them, but even more than that, even if he misses, at least the big guarding him is taken out of the paint.

Shot selection has never been something that Bruce has really worried about too much.
============
lawvol: Gate 21 - Life, the Universe, & the Bounce of the Ball
I think it is more,
when Chism chooses to shoot 3’s. He is much more effective shooting them when he catches the ball already facing the basket, either trailing the play or on the drive and kick.
Geez...

Weirdest part is that he'll be paid by Syracuse.

by David Hooper on Jan 20, 2009 9:59 PM EST up reply actions
It was bound to happen
Someone in essence paying to UT to coach there. Are 50+ year old graduate assistants common?
No. Usually they're pretty creepy when you see them.
But I’m guessing this is a different situation. With Syracuse’s recent history, it’s probably wise for them to send a guy to learn from actual coaches for a while, if for no other reason than to erase the last few years of memory.
by David Hooper on Jan 20, 2009 10:01 PM EST up reply actions

And I STILL want to know why Vandy makes the 3-fingered V!
“Hey, how can we be uniquie?”

It makes it easier to root against them that way. ;-)
by David Hooper on Jan 20, 2009 10:07 PM EST up reply actions
That is disappointing.
I was hoping it had to do with a “W” being pronounced as a “V” in German. That would lead to all kinds of implications about Stallings.
Yeah, you know what happens when Stallings gets crazy

Yep
I think Will (it was Will, right?) nailed it earlier. If Vandy’s good, they’re good down low. Not guard-good. That’s where we’re bad. Of course, he said it much better than that. Because some people have a way with words. Other people . . . not have way.

Woo!
That’s three. Who else?
Go Vols!

I still think he looks either
shaken or arrogant at all times, instead of just confident. Maybe that’s the mark of a freshman.

Vandy 31.9% for the game...

If I was a Vandy fan right now
I’d kill myself.
But really, I’d be thinking that this is the worst I’ve ever felt in my life when I was only down eight points. Because it has to feel like 18.

Not bad
I still like “Chizzle”
I’ve also found myself yelling “Scotty DON’T!” when he does something good, which only serves to confuse.

Chizzle... nice.
I miss Bertelkamp’s “Big Chilly” for Childress.

Ok, ok, ok.
Please stop fast breaking with a big lead. Let’s start working clock. No South Carolina redux, plz.

First time all year
Scotty’s played two good games back to back. Maybe he’s walking the arrogance side of that line.

Did Jimmy just say
that the guys had swagger while they were eating?

Wait until football
Coach O laughs at the swagger with which the bball team eats. He says he will show how to eat with intensity.

I was just answering the doorbell and caught the tail end of what Dykes was saying...
Was he getting at the fact that coaches might not be voting for the Vols in the poll because of Pearl?

Actually, it was a kid who left his coat in my car on our retreat last weekend. And since it’s -2 outside with 4 inches of snow here, I didn’t chastise him.

I was also terrified I was going to come back inside
And see Vandy down only like three points.
by Will Shelton on Jan 20, 2009 11:08 PM EST up reply actions
He didn't name the Vols or Pearl, but he said some coaches won't vote for other coaches.
Probably Antisemitists involved.
Vandy fans will want to white out this result

I’ll be getting up at 5:00 to drive to Chattanooga to pick up a piano. Likely will not be doing a post-game. If anyone’s interested, have at it.
Great game, guys. Great thread, folks. See ya next time.
