This will likely be the last update on the race to 1,000 that is written via FanPost. Once Pat Summitt wins 999, I'm going to be full-throttle on the front page with anticipation.
No matter your interest level in women's basketball, there is no denying that winning 998 career games is a truly amazing accomplishment. With the 76-67 disposal of the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Lady Vols are now two games - and potentially one week - from bringing the head coach that coveted big shiny round number of wins.
The next game will be a tough test, as the Lady Vols travel directly from Fayetteville to the Village on the Plains to face the undefeated Auburn Tigresses. (Yeah, I know that's not the official name, but it sounds better.) This young team has been vulnerable on the road; taking that weakness to perhaps the best-playing team in the conference's home court is not a pleasant prospect.
But you know the Ladies are going to be hungry for this one. Win at Auburn, and they get the opportunity to share win #1,000 at home with the Lady Vols faithful at The Summitt.
Wish the Ladies luck; let's see Pat grab that elusive 4th digit on the court named after herself, and let's appreciate just how fortunate UT is to have her.
