I have a 30 page article to read and a 6-8 page paper to write based on it. Due tomorrow (who has papers due on Sundays anyways?). So I shouldn’t be in this thread this afternoon. But I’m still so friggin’ excited! That’s the best game we’ve played since the UGA game two years ago.

I'm with you.

My project has been frustratingly slow and it’s starting to become a concern. But here we are. :-)

Also

Bama and Ole Miss are both looking fairly mediocre. It would take a miracle coming off the bye to take down the Tide, but Ole Miss can be had this year.

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 10, 2009 4:49 PM EDT reply actions

Ole Miss

has 11 yards of offense and 2 turnovers after 25 minutes.

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 10, 2009 4:50 PM EDT reply actions

Man.

Ole Miss is averaging 3 plays per drive (one drive with 1 play, one with 4, and the rest with 3).

by David Hooper on Oct 10, 2009 4:53 PM EDT reply actions

Well

I think Ole Miss is done for. 16-0. They’re up to 13 yards of offense though with a minute to play in the first half. We can beat those guys.

In other news, it looks like Baylor may be trying to give Chokelahoma a game.

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 10, 2009 5:07 PM EDT reply actions

I was thinking the next TD at 9-0 would decide who won the game.

Insanity could still strike, but it’s going to need some work.

I really like our odds against Ole Miss.

If UT plays as well against Bama as they did today, they’ll have a chance. It’s still uphill, but at least it’s a shot.

Well, yes, but not as much as we will.

We’re going bowling this year, I believe, but it might have served well for a tiebreaker into a better one.

I think we have a semi-decent shot at 7-5 now.

We may be able to get both Ole Miss and South Carolina, but I’ll be happy with one. Baby steps.

@Hooper

I absolutely agree. I kinda expected that when we lost it, actually.

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 10, 2009 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Btw, I'm glad a computer does the SEC power poll

It looks like Kentucky and South Carolina are similar. So they should arguably be ranked near each other. And that should presumably be near to or below Georgia but above Ole Miss and Arkansas. But Arkansas should be way above Auburn, who should be a bit above Tennessee, who should be way above Georgia. . .

We must beat South Carolina now. Win against them, and second in the East is well within reach.

by David Hooper on Oct 10, 2009 5:40 PM EDT reply actions

Amazingly, yes.

I didn’t even think about that, but going 4-1 in-division would be outstanding. But the SEC West draw was rough; there’s a very real chance we end up 4-4 even with that.

Yeah.

SoCar is 2-1 in conference but still has dates with Florida and Alabama upcoming. Assuming those as losses, they’d be 2-3 without UT. If we win, there’s 4 SoCar losses and we’d hold tiebreakers over them and Georgia.

by David Hooper on Oct 10, 2009 5:45 PM EDT up reply actions

On the other hand, if everyone in the SEC East finishes at 4-4 or worse, that may hurt UF's title chances if they lose.

…..

4-4 here we come!

heh.

I don’t think much will hurt their chances so long as they win the SECCG.

by David Hooper on Oct 10, 2009 5:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

If we can sweep the division (USC, UK, Vandy), even with losses to both Ole Miss and Bammer (which hopefully will not happen), we can finish second with this very likely scenario:

1. USC loses to UF and Bama
2. UGA loses to UF and either Auburn or Kentucky.

If UGA sweeps Vandy, Auburn, and Kentucky, we need to beat USC, UK, Vandy, and Ole Miss to hit #2.

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 10, 2009 5:47 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't see a realistic scenario where we get #2 at 4-4, unfortunately.

I think we need both those wins to get #2.

I we only lose to Bama here on out,

We will probably end up 4th overall in the conference (maybe 5th). What bowl would that be?

by David Hooper on Oct 10, 2009 5:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Ironically, I think that'd be the old Citrus Bowl.

Eric Berry for sending the guy who wins the Heisman spinning 720 degrees in the air at the podium - or for intercepting it and returning it to where it rightfully belongs

by Chris Pendley on Oct 10, 2009 5:52 PM EDT up reply actions

No

UF and Bama would get BCS bowls. LSU would take the Citrus. That’d put us back in the old familiar Outback Bowl, with Aubie (likely) in the Cotton.

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 10, 2009 5:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Sounds right.

Cotton would probably prefer Auburn over Tennessee anyhow, so everybody wins, right?

by David Hooper on Oct 10, 2009 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I was forgetting which one was where.

For some reason, I thought Citrus turned into Outback, but Citrus turned into Cap-One. Which one was Outback, and when did Cotton turn into #5?

Cotton and Outback are 4/5

But Cotton takes a West team and Outback takes an East. Unless there are just no available teams from the appropriate division (see: 2000 and 2004 for UT).

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 10, 2009 5:55 PM EDT up reply actions

This is, of course

Assuming LSU finishes ahead of Auburn and Ole Miss. It’s quite possible that Auburn could take that #3 spot, today notwithstanding.

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 10, 2009 5:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah.

The West being stronger feels more like they just haven’t imploded quite as early as the East. I’m still very leery about LSU.

by David Hooper on Oct 10, 2009 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm going to go ahead and say

There is probably a scenario that puts us finishing #3, with as crazy as the mid-SEC is.

We only lose to Bama. 4 losses (3 conf)
Georgia loses to Florida and GT. 4 losses (3 conf)
LSU loses to Bama, Florida, Ole Miss, Auburn. 4 losses
Auburn loses to Ole Miss, Bama, Georgia. 4 losses
Ole Miss loses to us, Bama, and either Arkansas or MSU. 4 losses
USC loses to us, Florida, Bama. 4 losses

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 10, 2009 6:00 PM EDT up reply actions

And that's not counting on anything

from UK or MSU, both of whom could spring an upset here or there.

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 10, 2009 6:02 PM EDT up reply actions

That's probably a good call.

I wouldn’t count on them in any realistic scenario.

I don’t think we can reasonably expect #3 without beating Alabama, though. That’s quite a trip.

by David Hooper on Oct 10, 2009 6:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Of course we can't expect it

But look at those results. Are any of them implausible? If we finish 5-1 (big task, but possible), we put ourselves looking good for #4 and in the legitimate mix for #3.

I don't think either Ole Miss or LSU's scenario is terribly plausible

I'll say this much:

After the Auburn game, I didn’t expect to see myself pondering the ways that UT could end up #3 in conference. ;-)

by David Hooper on Oct 10, 2009 6:07 PM EDT up reply actions

If MSU or Arkansas can do some extra favors. . .

For instance, if Arkansas beats LSU, then LSU can beat Ole Miss, and Ole Miss only needs losses to us and Bama.

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 10, 2009 6:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Also

Keep in mind that this is a formula that puts everyone BEHIND us in the conference. If we finish 6-1, it’s quite possible that we’d get picked over another team with 3 SEC losses just in virtue of the recent good play and the media attention Kiffin will draw.

Now that we’re not going to see him again, the kid legitimately deserves the future he’s going to have as a tight end at the next level. Putting him out here with a concussion is just bizarre; I’ve seen way too many issues with recovery to really feel safe about it.

I don’t mind cheering against a guy in the my team / your team sense, but this has absolutely nothing to do with team loyalties.

But yeah, I feel really bad about this one: neither outcome is good; if he plays and aggravates the concussion, it could be a permanent problem; if he plays and is fine, it only encourages other coaches to push their players back out faster after concussions.

The United States kick off their 9th game in this 10 game qualifying season in two minutes in San Pedro Sula against Honduras. We’re playing without two starters (FW Jozy Altidore and MF Clint Dempsey) who have minor injuries (at least, Jozy’s is minor. He’ll be available off the bench). If the USA wins, we secure a trip to next summer’s World Cup. It’s not on TV, but I posted a stream link a little while ago. If they lose, they need to hope we beat CR and they get a road win over El Salvador. That said, they’re 4-0 at home.

I remember this was a tough roadie but not the why.

I’ll be happy with one here and picking up the win over El Salvador at home. That’ll actually be here; I’m trying to decide if I want to go.

Heh.

You don't want the answer to that question.

LOL

And I’m just poking at you all anyhow.

by David Hooper on Oct 10, 2009 11:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Really, two goals that fast?

Wow, this is the soccer I’ve been missing all my life

by Will Shelton on Oct 10, 2009 11:38 PM EDT reply actions

That's four goals in 30 minutes

Possibly 5. That last one was a questionable call.

Goal

Honduras. 3-2 de Leon scores again

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 10, 2009 11:42 PM EDT reply actions

Now it's more scoring than Florida / LSU.

Howard, what was that?

OMG

Honduras just missed a tying PK.

Thanks, Honduras!

I thought we were headed for a tie.

New leader for my favorite thing i've read today

T Kyle King has the obligatory “the team that just beat us 45-19 isn’t even good” take. I was feeling sorry for them until I read this.

It's amazing he can talk with the feet he keeps putting in his mouth.

Yes.

And per the comments above, nobody go suggesting new head coaches for UGA.

Understandable.

I’m debating the merits of tying up Kyle in his own logic.

I just think it's poorly done

to talk about how awful we are after that performance today. I like their blog overall…and the fan in me, which is to say all of me, thinks their tears are delicious.

by Will Shelton on Oct 11, 2009 12:06 AM EDT up reply actions

Oh, it's terribly done.

Shooting Tennessee for beating Georgia thoroughly (45-3 if you don’t factor in special teams and turnover fails, which you can’t do but I’m making a point here) and calling them a terrible team seems like a recipe for disaster.

Heck, if he said mediocre instead of terrible I wouldn’t have any issue with it. But terrible? That’s just denying what’s in front of your face.

This blog

Makes me proud to be a subscriber to RTT. I don’t think any of the contributors here ever have or would make a classless post like that about a team that just whipped our tails.

I also like it that our fans wouldn’t be so sour over a loss that we ban somebody for disagreeing with us. Its nice in the middle of a rebuilding season to see things like this that remind me why I’m proud to be a Vol.

That blog talking about a lack of class is almost as ironic as if they were talking about Defense. Clearly they have neither. :-P

Well, some of us held out hope for the Clawfense for too long, too.

Snap judgments aren’t always the strong suits of every blogger. ;-)

Little T Kyle Crybaby

just banned me from Dawg Sports for questioning his “UT sucks” comment. Now my feelings are hurt.

Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.

GAME! USA is in the Cup. 3-2

Honduras has been dealt their first home loss, and they now need an away win against ES on Wednesday AND a US win or tie vs. CR.

WOO!
