Around the SB Nation: roundup of the weekend's action
Football
- And the Valley Shook notes that LSU's loss to Florida, like any other adversity suffered by the program, has resulted in "the LSU equivalent of a few thousand Trogdor the Burninators [coming] out from under and [rampaging] through the countryside." Note to ATVS: Yes, other schools have these kinds of fans, too.
- While Roll Bama Roll dissects the Tide's win over Ole Miss, Red Cup Rebellion nurses both disappointment and a hangover with tacos and a round of frisbee.
- Michigan blog Maize N Brew says that Iowa didn't so much beat the Wolverines on Saturday as the Wolverines beat themselves and named the Hawkeyes the beneficiaries.
- Most of you have seen this already, but even though Lane Kiffin gets his first big SEC win, Dawg Sports says not to get too excited because the Bulldogs are awful.
Basketball
- With Tubby Smith at the helm, is Minnesota Golden Gopher basketball a program on the rise?
- Tomahawk Nation has an exhaustive preview of the FSU hoops season.

Actually...
…dawg sports says that the Volunteers are awful. Not sure what that makes the Bulldogs. Historically awful?

That T Kyle dude is a [FULMERIZED] [FULMERIZED] isn't he?
A little thinned skinned there banning our friend pound the rock for making you look like the [FULMERIZED] you are.
I apologize pound the rock, for not coming to your defense (although I don’t believe you need it!), but I, like VolBrian, do not want a stankin’ Georgia blog membership on my profile, so I will not click the button to join.

I just get a tingle up my leg when Tennessee has a performance like that and I start committing the sin of thinking to the future and the good times which lie ahead.
Just tried to challenge the “Sucks” comments with reality and logic and earned my first internet banning.
I made a little printout of the “You Have Been Banned From Dawg Sports” and I wear it like a badge; safety-pinned to my smoking jacket. It looks quite dashing in the fading autumn sunlight as I relax on the veranda, reflecting on another beating of the Dawgs and how this tips the scales in the recruiting battle.
Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.
No, here in Lexington Keeneland is open so horse racing season is open!
I personally like the Bloody Mary with my gambling mornings, but the julep is great too.

Re: Kyle
Having been friends with him for some time, I took what he said at face value, and the way I interpreted it was that he was using us as a baseline for feeling horribly rotten about his team, that his team was horrendous b/c they’d just been beaten by what he considered a really bad team.
Truth is, Tennessee isn’t bad, and neither is Georgia. We’re both just middle-of-the-road, and neither program is used to that. We feel better about it because we’ve already been to the bottom. Climbing always feels better than falling.
I don’t engage a losing team’s fanbase after a loss because it’s too easy for things to go downhill rapidly. The only thing you can really say is what the UCLA folks said to us, something like our team played well, we’d bounce back, etc. Beyond that, if they say something I don’t agree with, I just let it go, figuring it’s the emotion of the moment. It’s quite difficult to win an argument with someone who’s rightfully irritable to start.

A fair point
Everyone of the old school posters on this site and other SB sites say the same thing about TKK.
I am normally a very mellow fellow (only way to survive last 6 years of Fulmer regime). Just wanted to throw out a challenge to one of the main theses of the post.
Anyhow, apologies to any offended parties. I respect the tradition and talent of UGA. They have beaten UT on the field and in recruiting many years during the past two decades. I think the recruiting dynamic is changing and this game will be worth its weight in gold to that end.
Somewhere out there is a quite from Kiffin after the game summarized as “We will be out on the road recruiting tomorrow and for the next week and a half during the bye, we’ll have as many people out there as the rules allow.”
Kiffin said no one would outwork this staff. I am a believer.

In defense of pound the rock
I didn’t think you said anything deserving of a ban. It was just the timing of it all, I guess.

The timing was pretty dicey.
It’s much the same with us; challenging fans after a bitter and severe defeat that makes you questions the fundamental worth of the current regime is not likely to be met with even tempers and kindest regards. They love their pigdog just as much as we love our Smokey, after all.
Once we’re rooting for them to upset Florida, things should calm down.

Want us to Kick the sh@%*# out of Bama ! Wouldn’t that be great !

Agreed
I thought it was a very civil discussion. It was just a matter of timing. I love to read opponent’s blogs after wins. It’s just that jumping into the discussion is usually going to be perceived badly.
But no, I don’t fault you — I was just explaining why I do what I do.

Im not one to jump in on other blogs’ conversations, especially not after a loss, but I felt I had to have my say after that write up.

Hey they had me riled up (and still am), but I decided to not lower myself to explain why and to get further into it.
To say that we stink and in the fashion he did was complete BS and a product of some of worst sore losing I’ve seen in awhile.
Is our QB play bad? Usually. But that does not qualify as a bad team. Our 3 losses are still more convincing of our team’s ability than theirs. All were close losses. And while I hate Florida, I hope Georgia gets stomped just to show how much better we are than them.
Georgia wins over Tennessee Tech and probably Kentucky, the others I bet are losses.

Well, you all know where I stand regarding conversations with rivals, especially after hard losses.
But also know that I give a very, very wide berth to the way other people react. Certainly, it’s unreasonable to think that everybody reacts the same way I do. It’s the main reason I’ve stayed clear of this whole TKK ordeal.
I’m perfectly fine letting King have his opinion regarding Tennessee. For one, UT really was a bad team last year (and shaky in 2007, and bad in 2005). In this year, we’ve already had some letdowns; we should be 4-2 or 5-1 in all honesty. So I don’t begrudge negative opinions of Tennessee too badly – especially from a divisional rival whose own status in the SEC hinges on the status of Tennessee. (I.e. if Tennessee is bad, UGA is still #2 in the East; if UT is good, UGA is #3 and struggling to hold of South Carolina.)
For two, resorting to the sour grapes defense only makes the loss that much more bitter for him. It’s much like that UGA fan that VolBrian met on the strip after the game – the one who was mouthing off about UT not making a bowl game this year. The poor dude was already grasping at anything to feel better (misery, company). Even without the correction from VolBrian, the entire scene is amusing enough on its own. (FWIW, I would either have just sat back and smiled in amusement, or I would have offered the guy consolation. Nothing like sympathy from a Vols fan at that point to really send a guy over the edge. But again, that’s me; VB’s response was pure gold.)
But from this point forward, the Georgia fanbase watch is officially on.

But from this point forward, the Georgia fanbase suicide watch is officially on.
Also I would feel better about a loss if I felt the team was genuinely better than me. Thats why I was frustrated after the UCLA loss, and in a pretty calm mood after Florida loss. That and we played Florida hard.
And I may have pulled a TKK in saying I was completely underwhelmed by UCLA, but I still stand by that for the most part. I don’t think they suck, they are just in a similar position as we are, and I think we have more going for us (aside from weak QB play because ours has been pretty awful the majority of the time)
we should be 4-2 or 5-1 in all honesty
quoted for truth.

He seemed to calm down a bit after a few hours.
I was pretty direct on why I thought terrible was an incorrect assessment, although I understand where he was coming from saying that – and once he more or less came out and said he called us terrible based on Crompton’s play to this point, I was okay with it. As Joel said, both teams are mediocre – I would’ve been fine with that, and I was.
Eric Berry for sending the guy who wins the Heisman spinning 720 degrees in the air at the podium - or for intercepting it and returning it to where it rightfully belongs

Yeah.
There’s a lot of room for interpretation regarding UT. I hope I didn’t come off as critical; I was just trying to explain why I steered clear of the whole thing.

Dawg fins can spin it how they want to
But our 3-3 is much better than their 3-3. A 26 point win over a rival is a 26 pint win over a rival. Their offense scored 3 points on our D and AJ Green average less than 8 yards per catch with no TD’s or big plays.
Anybody who really follows the Vols (like we all do) knew that a break out game like this was coming at some point this season. We had shown flashes but just has no big wins to show for it. Now we do and I don’t care if UGA wants to downplay our victory.
