The SEC hates America, disses the Liberty
No official announcement yet from the SEC, but the Gator Bowl has said that it's signed a four-year deal with the league to match the SEC against the Big Ten on New Year's Day.
The SEC is not only putting the Gator above the Liberty, it's also moving the Music City above the Liberty. So the Liberty gets the 8th or 9th SEC team, assuming there's one eligible.
The city of Memphis can blame John Calipari for this, right?

C-USA?
One of the reasons Mr. Higgins cites as to why the SEC would drop the Liberty Bowl beneath the others is the fact that the league isn’t thrilled at playing the Conference USA champion. Consider the level of competition each conference offers. Is it the pronouncement that the C-USA champ is on par competitively with the number seven or eight team in the SEC? I’m not trying to show disrespect but if given that the Gator Bowl and the Music City Bowl put the SEC teams up against the Big 10 and ACC respectively, I think the obvious question here is what reason would the SEC have to even stay with the Liberty Bowl? If the number seven team in the SEC team can play Iowa or Michigan State versus playing UAB or East Carolina, who would the fans rather travel to see? I think the question answers itself.

Matchups
During the agreement, SEC teams have played Houston, Central Florida and East Carolina in the Liberty Bowl as CUSA champs. Meanwhile, Music City Bowl opponents have been Clemson, Florida State and Boston College. Plus, whatever they’re calling the Titans’ stadium this week is about a billion times nice than the Liberty Bowl, as is the riverfront area in Nashville versus downtown Memphis. Music City Bowl wins in every aspect.

The Liberty Bowl needs massive renovation
and the area around it – well, let’s just say it’s different than other major bowl venues.
