Well down by 6 at the half, did you think we would be in the position earlier today?

Hi all

Just in from work. Tim Priest was saying on the way home that Lincoln looked weak in warmups. Was the attempt close?

by ChattVol on Oct 24, 2009 5:17 PM EDT reply actions

Was hoping to be a little closer at the half

We’re going to have to make something out of our many trips into their end this time. Three times inside their 35, 3 points.

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 24, 2009 5:17 PM EDT reply actions

Early in the season, we got the ball first in the 3rd quarter

And promptly threw interceptions. But that was with Bad Crompton. Let’s hope it looks different this week.

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 24, 2009 5:18 PM EDT reply actions

so far, UT is hanging on, but Bama really had the better half.

That ability to get consistent rushes up the middle is a serious problem.

by David Hooper on Oct 24, 2009 5:19 PM EDT reply actions

Not that much better

Only 38 yards more offense. The special teams have been a 3 point swing. This probably should be a 3 point lead for the Tide.

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 24, 2009 5:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Really, the running game in general has been the difference.

Against the #1 team in the country

I can handle 9-3 at half. Especially considering we’ve missed some opportunities. If we can capitalize in the 2nd half, we might have a shot to win

My mom is at the game

she’s never been to a UT away game, and she keeps sending me texts about how terrible their fans are. This road trip has turned her into a Bama hater for sure.

and she is sitting in the Alabama player family section…. haha

I'll be really sad

if EB can’t get his 15 yards. He’s done so much shoring up weaknesses on D for CMK instead of roaming the backfield. I’m hopeful, but growing depressed with each game

He’s spending an awful lot of time in run support for many opportunities.

The only problem is the graduations on the lines

and, dare I say, at quarterback. At this point, I wouldn’t mind having JC for another year.

Re: JC.

Blink, but you’re right.

Which proves

Kiffin has a great system and his guys can flat out coach up QB’s

by memphispete on Oct 24, 2009 7:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Re: line.

Given his size disadvantage, they’ve done a great job getting Sullins 2.0 up to speed. And Douglas has done very nicely so far. I’m beginning to think the line will transition better than we first expect.

by David Hooper on Oct 24, 2009 7:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh yeah

And don’t forget Hardesty. Can Bryce Brown fill his shoes? Given his potential, he’d better be able to.

by Incipient_Senescence on Oct 24, 2009 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Fill? Not exactly.

They’re different enough to make that not happen. But BB will be good enough to be himself.

by David Hooper on Oct 24, 2009 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I mean BB makes the great runs when he has normal holes

Hardesty’s better this year because of what he does with little-to-nothing.

Really, the only bad part of bacon is that it makes you thirsty . . . for more bacon

by jacksonian on Oct 24, 2009 7:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah. That's rough.

Of course, LSU might still be regressing. I’d have to check their roster turnover.

by David Hooper on Oct 24, 2009 7:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I forgot about the OL and DL grads you are right

I was inspired by the effort – despite being outmanned (size) and less talent -

by memphispete on Oct 24, 2009 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions

One of the best games of the year, really.

Very well-controlled. Very close. Beautiful finish, if you’re a neutral observer.

by David Hooper on Oct 24, 2009 7:31 PM EDT reply actions

It shows they're actually beatable.

And that in a grind-out game. Of course, it takes a great defense to do that, and I don’t think they face another one until Florida.

by David Hooper on Oct 24, 2009 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions

I should have made it a question.

I do think Bama was better than FL. Bama had absolutely stupid play calling inside the 10 on the second FG. Why not run it down our throats at the end of the 1H?

As a 'Bama fan...

I still hate Tennessee with every fiber of by being…but as a football fan, I have to say, The ‘Vols earned my respect tonight. Bama was outplayed all night tonight. My houndstooth hat’s off to Tennessee. That’s as much of a nailbiter as I’ve ever seen in my 29 years of watching Bama football. Well done tonight, Vols. Good luck with the rest of your season.

by KongAtTheGates on Oct 24, 2009 7:41 PM EDT reply actions

err...typo...

Should have been “my” being.

But yeah. Despite whatever struggles Tennessee has had this season, they played like champions tonight.

by KongAtTheGates on Oct 24, 2009 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Thanks, Kong

Good luck the rest of the way.

Understood.

We have ourselves a series again. Props to the Tide.

by David Hooper on Oct 24, 2009 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Much respect

I join with Kong—a diehard Bama fan, I came here to congratulate the Vols on a damn fine game.

As I said on RollBamaRoll, you won’t hear me saying crap like “Kiffykins” ever again. That last series was played to perfection.

And if anybody every talks bad about Jonathan Crompton, I’ll be in their face. He played like a legend today—and to set up the last field goal he made an extremely difficult pass into triple coverage.

All I have to say, Rocky Top, and from the bottom of my heart: much respect.

Never quit. It is the easiest cop-out in the world.

by gorjus on Oct 24, 2009 7:46 PM EDT reply actions

That was a great game.

Awesome job by the Tide as well. Nothing but respect coming from this direction, either.

yeah that defense was stellar

I will say this, Crompton is shaping up to be a 2 minute drill monster

I actually am starting to feel comfortable with him at the helm in the last 2 minutes.

And anyone that has ever walked out on him at the end of a game with still a fighting chance, should be ashamed. (cough cough ucla cough)

I'm in shock

but im not mad. i’m pleased with how our team has progressed. nobody expected us to win. i think this coaching staff deserves more credit then they’ll get. they called an outstanding game. the execution really hurt us… penalties… missed FGs.
