Please let's get rid of Daniel Lincoln
Well there's another one guys that bites the dust to to Lincoln. I can think of at least 5 games this season and last that we lost due to his ineptness. He's one of the suckiest kickers I've ever seen. And <GROAN> he's only a junoir. I'd love to see him replaced by next season!! I will give Crompton credit where credit is due....at least his playing has improved. Lincoln is a consistent screw up. Where did this guy learn to kick anyway??!!

We can't do anything about him this year
And we’ve already signed a kicker for next year. He has to be licking his chops thinking of what Tennessee could be with him on the field.

Never wanted a kicker more than right now
Can Palardy forgo his sr. season (of HS)?

TEAM
Although this fanpost author joined this site immediatly prior to posting with the sole intent of causing a debate (i.e., probably a typical Bameroid), he inadvertantly brings up a valid point that many seem to forget…Individuals neither win nor loose ball games. The TEAM makes great plays happen. The TEAM makes bad plays happen too. Undoubtedly, UT was its own worst enemy tonight in a well-fought game by both teams.
Keep your head up, Mr. Lincoln. It was just a year ago (maybe 2) that I recall Leigh Tiffin only connecting on 2 or 6 attempts against the Gamecocks I believe. Since then, the man’s had a golden foot. Let’s see if we can get that kind of turnaround. We’ll undoubetly need you again later on down the road.
If any of you are going to pin this loss on our kicker, you need to seriously examine your “fandom”. We real fans transcend your narrow field-of-view and don’t want you on our team.
-GO VOLS!

Ridiculous, sir
I can be a fan of the Vols yet blame the loss on the kicking game. Lincoln is injured and unable to make the long distance kicks. Palardy can kick it into the stands on a KO. Cunningham can’t punt worth a flip and his kick-offs cost us field position that led to 2 of the long Bama FG.
There is nothing wrong with pointing out that we beat Bama, if we have decent performance from our kicker. And, decent blocking for the FG attempts, which should be basic but we blew it twice.
Sure the poster is a Troll, but don’t question my fandom because I describe the glaring shortcomings in our otherwise great performance.
Similarly, I can applaud Crompton for a fantastic performance and a wonderful turnaround to his game. He was horrible at the beginning of the year (and the WR had their share of the blame). They all have improved (thank you, Georgia). Bama was another better game. Let’s hope he continues to deliver enough for us to win out.
But Crompton really was statistically one of the worst QB’s in the nation at the beginning of the year. I either wanted him to put it all together and improve suddenly – which he did – or I wanted Kiffin to get performance out of the QB position another way – pull someone off the sidelines or out of the stands. I wanted performance on the field because I want Tennessee to win. Saying so makes me honest – not less of a fan.

blocked kick keeps replaying in my mind
What an emotional rollercoaster that last few minutes of the game was…everything about it is why I love college football! I love the Vols and I am proud to be a Volunteer! I have tried to not get on the bandwagon of bashing Lincoln but after watching the replay of the game on CSS, I will be happy to see him go. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing on the sidelines of Tennessee. After Tennessee recovered the onside kick and the offense took the field, Daniel Lincoln should have been getting warmed up until he was called onto the field. The cameras showed the sidelines after the Vols made some great catches and moved into field goal territory, and there stands Lincoln with his freakin’ helmet in his hand talking on the sideline. Now maybe he was talking strategy with a coach or whatever, but he should’ve been getting warmed up, kicking into the net and maybe he would’ve got the ball past the line of scrimmage. Maybe I am missing something from what I saw but I think the preperation on his part could have been better.

LOL REAL FANS
I can ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY assure you that I am a Vols Fan. LOL and debate is good. No one doubts Lincoln lost this game for the team. Anyone who doesn’t think so is obviously blind or possibly is suffering from ‘ful-like’ symptoms like Florida players last month LMAO. The facts are that Lincoln has not only screwed up the team this year but last year too. The UCLA game comes to mind………….among others. And GROANNNNNNNNN he is only a junoir. Please god help the VOLS next year. NO MORE LINCOLN NO MORE LINCOLN NO MORE LINCOLN!! Aerobab you should go to youtube and listen to BigVolDaddy’s video on the game. You might learn something valuable for the future!

Sorry dude
No one doubts Lincoln lost this game for the team.
Is untrue. Not only do I doubt it, I don’t even consider it in the realm of possibility. The offense should’ve put the ball in the end zone. And that goes for today and any of the other games you’re trying to pin on Lincoln. Besides, If you’re relying on somebody to kick you to a win, then you’re playing soccer.
Also, you probably came to the wrong site to try and flame a player.

No you are not... You are a Gypsy fan. You expect your team to support you.
BTW, “LOL” ie, laughing at someone doesn’t automatically make you right. Actually, what that usually means is that you have run out of legitimate arguements and you are going for the low road win to a debate. It is like debating politics with a liberal… you can always tell you are winning and they are running out of legitimate points because they start that fake laugh and start calling you names.

As our new Memphis Grizzlies player, A.I. says:
Politics. We are talkin’ about Politics, baby. It wasn’t like a real election or anything. It was just Politics. He was all up in my face. It wasn’t like it was going to change anything or make a big difference. I mean, it was just Politics.
Or maybe he said Practice. I get confused.

Agree but Lincoln's hurt and there's nothing better on the bench
Great recruit coming in 2010 Palardy. I love the Vols as well, but the reason for our special teams shortcomings has a lot to do with the lack of talent there. Lincoln is not Fuad Reviez. Cunningham is not Dustin Colquitt.
Lincoln has heart and he’s a good kid and he’s hurt. But he failed to deliver today. If he delivers, we win. (The same can be said about the offense putting the ball in the end zone as well.)

But to be perfectly honest with you, as a 3rd party source; I hate Daniel Lincoln.
I know that’s not the point though, great game, and all the best to the Vawls.

The author of this post
joined today, for the express purpose of ragging out Daniel Lincoln.
Why didn’t he join two weeks ago after the TREMENDOUS win over Georgia?
I have no time for anyone who can’t be bothered to say anything nice bout the Vols, whether or not they call themselves a ‘fan’. I’m flagging this as ‘troll’.

I guess you can call me a TROLL then
I guess you can call me a TROLL then because anyone with common sense will point out deficiencies in a team and work to improve them. Lincoln seems to have been hurt since he started—that should about sum it up right there. And to say you shouldn’t rely on your kicking team to win games is true to a point—BUT your kicking team is there to pull of big wins in close games as this one was. One author above notes that Tiffin was 2 out of 6 two years ago with UGA. Hell, I’d even take those odds with Lincoln. Then at least he would have made one of the three instead of ZERO!! You are as strong as your weakest link. Last night Lincoln AGAIN proved he is the weakest link. Let’s hope Kiffin recognizes that and benches him next year. It just sucks that the rest of the team can play as good as they did and has to suffer defeat due to one player who really has no business being out there in the first place.

Sir, Lincoln was 1 of 4. Give him credit for the one he made.
The other unblocked kick was just as much short as Tiffin’s 50 and 49 yard kicks were long. In other words, he just barely came up short – much as Tiffin just barely made his.
The line is as much to blame as Lincoln’s low kicks. Sullins got Manned by Cody.
Yes, I think our special teams play was a missed opportunity to win. There were other areas where we could have done better but came up a hair short. The kicking game – in all phases – was the biggest.
I am salivating for the arrival of Palardy who should return TN to the glory days of special teams. Lincoln is a good kid who works hard but is hurt.
He didn’t deliver – but my fellow posters are not idiots for defending him. There were other factors, despite his shortcomings. If Cody was blocked on both FGA and he missed those two, then you have three misses and a very valid point.

Everyone is entitled to feel how they want to feel
This is no different than people calling for replacing Crompton. Something every single one of us has said or thought at least once this season.
Crompton was damn near fantastic yesterday in the face of that defense.
This guy isn’t a troll, he’s just voicing an opinion many Vols fans are gonna have after that game whether we as individuals agree with it or not. I’m on the fence myself. He should’ve kicked higher those times, but they had a mad rush both times, and if we had scored one more touchdown, or not committed that pass interference penalty, we win.
That’s a terrible run-on and I don’t care
I told you we would beat Georgia!! Now, as for those 9 wins in '09......
I got bored and made a blog!! SCS

I am not here to troll or flame
I just don’t understand the logic here but granted I have not studied your kicker and will not until the 3rd Saturday of 2010 so please pardon my ignorance on the subject if I am wrong. Lincoln did not miss that kick, that kick was blocked. Cody outsizes your walk on center by some 5 inches and about 100 pounds. Not to mention a couple of years of experience. Certainly there is room for debate regarding the first blocked kick… ie, was it too low but the fact of the matter is, too low or not, it hit Cody and not your center’s backside. I don’t mean to disrespect your center either, he was just outmanned. Cody has been occupying two or three offensive linemen for twenty something games now.
As unnatural as it is for me to set aside a lifetime of loathing for UT, my dad taught me to render respect where respect is due. Your boys played their hearts out yesterday in the most hostile of environments and doggone near dashed the NC dreams of the nation’s no. 1 team. I don’t understand the logic that lays that loss on the shoulders of one man, a kicker, who would likely be your hero today had the line stepped up and not allowed that blocked kick.
Gypsy…. brace yourself because I am about to pi$$ you off. I am going to have to side with your fellow fans here that questions your fanhood of your team. If you are laying this loss on the shoulders of your kicker then you are just looking for an emotional “whipping boy” and that is not fair to him. If you want to flame me for this comment, then save it for the third week of October 2010 because that is the next time I will be back here. Your boys came into Tuscaloosa given absolutely no chance to win by all the talking heads. Apparently your team missed that memo. The best you can do as a fan after that showing is to come on here and rail on an individual player? An individual player who should not have had the game layed on his shoulders in the first place, but when he did, seven linemen failed to offer the protection that he needed to do his job. I submit that you are just crying and looking for someone to blame. You should be celebrating the efforts of your team. You sir, are not a true fan of anything. A true fan supports his/her team. A true fan does not expect his team to support him/her. Your team has to pay the blood, sweat and tears. All you have to do is turn on the tv. How dare you call for that college kid’s removal and possible loss of scolarship (remember, the scholly is year to year) and call yourself a fan. You are expecting them to support YOU. That is not a fan.
This, from a rabid fan of one of your chief rivals, I left yesterday with an elevated blood pressure and a whole new respect for the Vols. I still hate the Vols, don’t get me wrong (and by that I mean sports hatred… I wish no tragedy on them) but after Saturday I can no longer withold the only thing that I really have to give, for what it’s worth, my respect. Of course, my respect and a dollar will get you laughed out of Starbucks but it is all I have to offer.
I don’t usually believe in moral victories either. But, as a lifelong Alabama fan, over the past decade and a half I have had to learn to live with many of them. Moral victories are part of a growing process. Saturday morning would any of you guys have dared to dream that this game would have ended the way it did…. as close as it was? If you did dare to dream that, then you would have been both delusional and in the end…. right. That is a rare combination.
Great game Saturday Vols….. See you next year.

I know, I complained loudest of all, but . . .
Just for the sake of arguing, let’s not ask what can be done about Lincoln, but why did he even attempt three field goals from more than 40 yards? I looked it up, and in the entire conference this week, only three teams had field goals that long: Mississippi State, Bummer, of course, and Arkansas. The rest of the field goals were in the range of 25 to 35 yards. Lincoln can make those. Sure, he lost the game for us. But, good Lord, man, we were asking him to kick these things from the parking lot. And he was hurt, too. Maybe if the offense had moved the ball a little closer to the goal posts we would be talking about that great upset over Bummer instead of whining about why the kicker can’t get it done from 47 yards out. Think about this – that last drive, Crompton moved the team down the field pretty well to get them within field goal range. I almost fell over when they let 40 seconds or so roll off the clock. One more play might have put us in that 35 yard range. Again, Lincoln can make those! We gotta work with the tools we have and not ask the improbable.

From the Troll
BLAH BLAH BLAH point out a weakness and everyone wants to sit and cry that I’m not a true fan. I can tell none of you have ever maintained a winning strategy on anything. You point out your weakest link and you FIX it—you don’t whine about well if the rest of the team did this, this, this, and maybe farted in the wind toward the left then this would have happened. But that’s NOT what happened. This is what happened and there is no denying it. I support having a WINNING team which does not mean I’m not a true fan. I watch my guys win or lose. Yea it sucks that we lost but you deal with it and move on. If that means people don’t like my opinion then so be it. Maybe you guys should route for teams not in the SEC. Then you would have plenty of extra time to make excuses for losing.
