Tennessee on ESPN Radio
Colin Cowherd had Todd Blackledge as a guest on his show today. The first thing that Colin brought up was Tennessee football. He didn't even mention this weekend's game, he started off simply: "Tennessee is going to be a beast." Blackledge agreed. They both said that this team has some talent now, but in a few years, they will be loaded.
Mike and Mike this morning also talked a little about the Vols. Greeny and Golic both emphatically agreed that Tennessee is going to be "really good".
I know that ESPN radio is no psychic hotline, but I think it's pretty interesting that a 3-4 team would be drawing such reviews - much less getting this kind of air time to begin with. It kind of reaffirms my strange feeling of content despite losing such a heartbreaker
*UPDATE*
For those of you with ESPN Insider, here is the link to the Cowherd segment:

He starts talking about Tennessee at the 20:20 mark, and again with Blackledge at 23:15. He says Tennessee is going to be a beast about 15 times. He also jabs Alabama fan for thinking they're the best ever, because with a decent QB, Tennessee beats both them and Florida. (Obviously, though, it was anyone but Crompton's fault we lost to Bama)

That 3-4 team is also #35 in the BCS standings.
The main sites tend to truncate at 25, but it’s fairly simple to calculate for the remainders, much like the ‘also receiving votes’ category in human polls.
Key word: relevant
IF – and that’s a giant, “one thing at a time” IF – but IF the Vols win out and then win a January 1 bowl game, I bet they’re going to get some of 09’s Ole Miss when it comes to ’10’s preseason expectations/rankings. And I have no idea if that’s a good thing.
If that happens, I'll probably be on the klaxon.
Unless I have reason to believe that changing up 60% of the O-line and losing our suddenly-good quarterback and losing our 1st-round worthy running back aren’t going to hurt us offensively, the only prudent thing to do is wait a few weeks into 2010 before passing any kind of judgment. (And yes, I’m considering the running back depth. Losing Hardesty will still matter.)

we will lose several key starters
getting way ahead of myself here… but we have a brutal schedule next year.
I think we're putting too much weight on that
It’s necessary to temper your expectations and I get that, but remember last year when we didn’t expect to have a D-line or and LB’s worth anything this season?
HB’s- They are turning Tennessee into the Broncos, which you should like. Not trying to take anything away from Hardesty, he’s been fantastic, but this is gonna be a “plug and play” HB system.
O-line – How many games in a row have we started 2 former walk-ons (Sullins’s)? Just the fact we have some O-line like Jose Jose coming is fantastic, and may get better.
Eric Berry – Is irreplacable, but I feel comfortable with Janzen Jackson. Darren Myles Jr and Mike Edwards will help.
QB – Crompton may be getting better, but that may be a product of him just now getting comfortable with the system and WR’s. Something Stephens and Lamaison will have much more time to do. Not to mention Bray and a possible surprise.
Just the way i see things right now.
I told you we would beat Georgia!! Now, as for those 9 wins in '09......
I got bored and made a blog!! SCS
"Unless I have reason to believe"
would include a spring practice season that has glowing reports about the replacements on the O-line as this last spring’s did about the D-line. But In January, it’s just a wee bit early to go that far down the road.

I didn't mean
to type like I was calling out your, or anybody’s, attitude really. Just my thoughts on the subject and my confidence in the coaching staff. It just came out like that I suppose.

And still I'm aboard the Lane train
and fully convinced that we will go into 2011 with a top 10 rating in the polls

To follow up on Hooper's thread (re: next year's expectations)
Losing EB, Hardesty, and the LBs will hurt, but I think we’ll have guys step up and keep us strong. Our safety depth is good, our RB depth is good, and we have a lot of LBs who have been forced into a lot of playing time this year (with positive results).
Also, I only have one major concern with the schedule: Oregon. LSU is pretty good, but I’m 100% convinced that Kiffin is a better coach than Miles. We’re improving, they’re falling back. And we’re fairly even already.
My big concerns for next year:
QB—We’re losing a solid producer (gasp) and replacing him with a true freshman. That’s always dicey.
O-line—We graduate three starters, including our best lineman. That’s the scariest thing.
D-line—If “Unblockable” Walker goes pro, we’re in trouble, losing 3 of 4. Scary. If he doesn’t, I’m less worried, but we’re still losing both tackles.

On the D-Tackles
I think Montori Hughes and Marlon Walls have the potential to be a major inside force for us. Especially with Coach O schooling them.

I do too.
Walls got some action in the Bama game, fyi.
