    No worries about Tebow.

He’s just saving himself for Atlanta.

    Eventually

Coaches will be fired before they’re introduced at the press conference announcing their hiring.

If you are a Florida fan who is unhappy with Meyer/Tebow, the surrounding hype machine, and two national titles in three years, saying you lack perspective doesn’t even begin to cover it.

    Alligator Army is just silly

Their current SEC Power Poll… apparently they saw enough promise out of Georgia in their bye week to move them back ahead of Tennessee just two weeks after Jonathan Crompton took them to the shed.

My condescension-detector is all worn out right now...

….so I’ll have to read the rule explanation later.

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." A. Bartlett Giamatti

    It's a fairly good read...

…if you like reading stuff that isn’t remotely accurate.

I tend to think that getting something right is a prerequisite to being condescending about it. Thus, Pete Holiday == [fulmerized] in my book.

Thank you Bobo for helping to clarify the actual rule. I had your back: http://www.rollbamaroll.com/2009/10/26/1101587/kicks-penalties-and-possessions#23451130

Pretty sure he was dead on the money

I know it hurts, but its the truth. Nothing in regards to Cody taking his helmet off would have changed the game. It has been explained numerous times, but you can only look where you choose to look. It was the right call by the refs.

On another note, great game. You guys outplayed us most of the game, and I was really impressed with the way you played. I still think Kiffin fails miserably as a HC, but Monte had a great defensive plan, and your guys played their hearts out. Nearly gave me and my friends a heart attack!

BTW, Hardesty and Berry get all my respect; even Crompton played like a pro the last two weeks.

    It doesn't

I just love the doublespeak -

    One side of the mouth: Monte is great, your team is going to be great;

Other side: but Lane fails miserably and is a terrible HC.

Keep drinking the hater-ade, it must taste amazing.

He was dead on the money that the call wouldn't have mattered...

…but was anybody disagreeing? What is funny is that he made the statement Tennessee fans, like Lane Kiffin, don’t know the rules. He doesn’t either. His basic premise was that the ball was dead once it went past the line of scrimmage. And this actually isn’t correct. Bobo pointed out why that didn’t make any sense.

If you think that was my "basic premise"

You need to take a trip back to high school English.

My basic premise was that there was Cody taking his helmet off could never have given UT a re-kick. There are a number of reasons for that.

The sub-debate about the ball being dead when it crossed the line — something I still haven’t been convinced of — is completely irrelevant because the ball was, in fact, recovered by Alabama.

    I'm wrong all the time.

by PeteHoliday on Oct 27, 2009 7:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The sub-debate was a discussion about what the rules actually are.

Your post was based on hypothetical circumstances, so saying “it wouldn’t have mattered anyway” is a really weak way to defend a point that you were wrong on.

"basic premise", sub-premise, or something else altogether...

…your statutory constructions skills lack the proficiency necessary to justify your condescending tone.

In other words, if you are going to go the disparaging tone route, just make sure your argument is airtight. I think that is probably a good rule of thumb.

    oh it was very live...

A kick that goes beyond beyond the neutral zone is only recoverable by Team B (Alabama). The block was made in the neutral zone, so therefore, in order for Tennessee to recover it, the ball would have to then be touched by an Alabama player (stranger things have happened). At this point a couple senarios exist. In a case where the only foul on the play was a dead-ball foul (Terrance Cody frolicking down the field sans helmet), Tennessee would have to cross the goal line with the ball in order to win. (No time remaining for another play and no untimed down on dead-ball fouls)

If Tennessee recovered there were live-ball foul committed by Alabama, then the penalty could be accepted which would then result in an extinuation of game play with one untimed down, and Tennessee could attempt another try.

So there you have it. But since everyone on Tennessee looked panicked and lost, Alabama recovered and the game ended.

So everything posted in this thread that doesn't agree with you is a flame?

there was nothing flaming about my post. I simply stated my opinion. I personally do not think Kiffin is going to be good in the long run, but I could be wrong.

I never said “your team is going to be great”. Re-read my post. I guess I overestimated the maturity of your fans in here. I didn’t see anything wrong with my post, and it wasn’t a flame.

And no hater-ade here; other than Saturday, I could care less what you guys do. Just trying to pay your team overrall – sans LK – a compliment. Guess you can’t take it or focus on the positive, you take a criticism and blow it up.

Doublespeak. Yeah, right. Maye POTS and VolBrian can conversate like adults down the road.

BS, idiot, and you know it

How bout I go over to RBR and say:

You guys have a great team and will likely play for the NC this year. Congrats on the win. Great coaches, Cody was awesome. —Truth

But, then I follow that up or mix in:

Saban has short man syndrome — Truth

    Bama’s a bunch of cheaters — Truth

You only have 4 legitimate National Championships — Truth

What kind of reaction do you think I would get? “Oh, thinks for the compliments. We tend to disagree with your last few points, but we really appreciate you stopping by to tell us we have a good team.”

    BS

You can’t come on to this site, say unprovoked, and unjustified things like:

I still think Kiffin fails miserably as a HC

and not expect it to be perceived as a flame on a Tennessee blog.

You can’t come back and try to justify it or play the vicitim after being called on it with things like this:

I personally do not think Kiffin is going to be good in the long run, but I could be wrong.

You wanna talk bad about Kiffin? Go back to RBR, TSK, or your trailer, I don’t care.

I told you we would beat Georgia!! Now, as for those 9 wins in '09......

    Kiffin

will be just fine, Bammer, thanks for the concern.

Keep focusing on the name calling and fake championship counting while UT reels in top recruiting classes.

Kiffin out-coached Saban on Saturday and you know it. If it wasn’t for a Mountain of a Man and a kicker with a bum leg, Bama’s season would be going down in flames right now.

you Bammer, can't communicate effectively - shocker

The context you wrote that Kiffin statement was confusing. You are writing in past tense about the Tennessee performance on Saturday, but right in the middle of it you plug in an assertion about the future that “Kiffin fails as a coach”. It’s not clear what your intention was

by golfballs03 on Oct 27, 2009 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

    Kiffin is the man

How close are we to being 7-0, or 6-1? Very. How many times have we been blown out? None. CROMPTON SINGLE HANDEDLY MOLESTED GEORGIA AND IS NOW PLAYING GREAT.

That alone is reason enough to build a statue of him in K-town. Tennessee football has, and always will win. Give us time. Championships will come.

    While I'm also highly optimistic,

I’m just really not putting up with any more flames about him around here. If I have to be the Kiffin police so be it. Anybody that comes on here and says something like dude up there did, they better have some good evidence or reasons, or they need to keep it on their own site.

Doesn’t matter what he says around it, it was a flame and I called it as such when Southland asked for clarification. We don’t do that here any more. They better clarify themselves up front or go away.
