Considering who they returned

and who they’ve lost, I’m good with that number.

Maybe I haven't paid enough attention to Kentucky's roster...

…but isn’t a 5 ranking a little high? Even with the bestest coach ever?

I told you we would beat Georgia!! Now, as for those 9 wins in '09......

It's based on freshmen + Patrick Patterson

I think it’s absurd to have them at 2-3 like some polls do, but it seems to me there are fewer definites after Kansas and MSU this season. For the CBB BlogPoll, as much as I’d like to do otherwise, I’d be hard pressed to keep UK out of the top ten.

Yes

but the basic premise of ranking teams before they’ve even played is rediculous.

Frankly, their roster is full of absolute stud recruits

How they got there (Calipari’s suspect recruiting connections, like Worldwide Wes) is another story for another NCAA-investigations day.

But, frankly, our only hope is that they are coached by Calipari. As a game coach on the sidelines, he’s worth a couple of buckets to the opposition. Kansas NC game and our beating Memphis on their home floor to take the #1 ranking away from them. Both times, analysts noted that he got outcoached by Sell and Pearl, respectively.

Three SEC teams in the poll

and four in the “also receiving votes” category…it’s gonna be a better year for the league

definitely!

With the exception of LSU, the league was really young last year. I would say that just about every team will be better

The only things sillier than preseason football rankings are preseason basketball rankings

I love Bruce, and I love what he’s done with our basketball program…but I’ll have to be convinced that this particular team deserves this kind of recognition. We started last season in about the same place and that didn’t turn out too well (I knew after the fiasco at Temple that something wasn’t right). I’d like to believe in this group of guys, but they’ll have to show me something.

As for Calipari and the Mildcats…he just exudes an aura of sleaze, doesn’t he? They may be very good, but it’s impossible for anybody to know at this point how all those freshmen will perform. I seem to remember beating an undefeated Memphis team a couple years ago, so I’m not too worried about Calipari and the best recruiting class that moneys/womens can buy :)

I agree that the rest of the league should be better. As a Vandy grad (I grew up in Knoxville and truly bleed orange, so don’t hate me!), I’m really excited about their team this year. They, like Ole Miss, Arkansas, etc., had a lot of young players last year that should be more ready to handle the rigors of SEC basketball. I’d love the league to get a little more respect after watching it be dumped on so vociferously by the powers that be last year.

We'll know a lot by how our defense looks the first few games....
