DeMarco Cobbs decommits from Tennessee, commits to Texas
Jason Suchomel of Orangebloods.com, the Rivals Texas site, has a story up tonight confirming that athlete DeMarco Cobbs of Tulsa, OK has decommitted from the Vols and pledged his services to Texas ($). The story includes quotes from Cobbs on the situation. Cobbs was one of a trio of Tennessee commitments following the UCLA game, and is currently ranked as the 9th best athlete and 120th best overall player in the 2010 class.
The 6'1" athlete is also rated as the best player in the state of Oklahoma, and is a surprise pickup for the Longhorns. Speculation from the Tennessee perspective runs full spectrum: on one side, this is a significant loss for a UT class of 2010 that was ranked 6th going into Thursday by Rivals.com. On the other side, the uber-confident Kiffin Chimera continues to recruit so hard and so well that one wonders if decommitments are only going to pave the way for greater commitments down the line. Either way, Cobbs looked like a player Tennessee wanted and is certainly a player Texas does, so for now he's one that got away...

It happens.
You guys have a couple other solid WR recruits if I recall. I’d be more worried about the lines. That’s what teams are built on, and aren’t you guys thin there?
What you're seeing is team spirit. It's like the Holy Spirit, but more powerful.

Yeah, we are
Mostly offensively. And you’re right that it’s our biggest recruiting concern right now.

Yes. Lines are the biggie and will define this class.
There’s still rumormongering out there about other receivers getting recruited. People still jabber about Kyle Prater, for example, but I’m not the guy to ask about how much substance there is behind that. I do think we were a little bit on the full end, receiver-wise, but certainly nothing overboard. He’ll be missed, but losing somebody like Jose Jose would be a bigger problem.

I look at it this way...
How were we going to steal him away from someone else if we already had him? So this is a good thing.

Demarco Cobbs...
TEXAS grad here. Cobbs is a good pickup but I wonder about his grades. 2.0 is tricky.
TEXAS ranks 47 academically in the US. Its tougher than some want to deal with.
I am not a Kiffin fan. This is the same OC under Pete Carroll that ran Lendale White on 4th and 3 and failed against TEXAS in the Rose Bowl. We won that game on that stop. He promised you to beat Alabama and Florida. It did not happen He accused Saban of cheating which was untrue.. Just my take on all of this.
What is with the dollar sign next to TEXAS ? We didn’t buy Cobbs services. Mack Brown is just an absolutely dominating coach.
Until next time HOOK ’EM !

Did he change? Are we sure that he didn't just clarify his original commitment, which was to "UT"?

heh
I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t go live with the phrase ‘decommit’, even with that bit.

Maybe he was committing and his name is actually Marco?

Nonetheless, can you blame him? Look how well this strategy worked out for Chris Simms.

Well that didn't last long
Is it because we have so many WRs in his class and we’re recruiting more? Like Dunkley coming this weekend?
