SEC Power Poll: Rocky Top Talk Ballot
The numbers shouldn't be too shocking. Florida and Alabama are the top tier, and LSU and Auburn are the next level. Georgia through Ole Miss are a close pack, and all have their own weaknesses. While Mississippi State is in the bottom rung, that masks some impressive improvement on their end. They've had a very tough schedule so far, and they haven't done too poorly yet.

The optimist in me looks at this and says
We can give Florida, Bama, and Auburn games, but we can beat UGA, USC, and Ole Miss. Also, we should be UK and Vandy. This puts us between 5-7 and 8-4 with the most likely outcome being 6-6 or 7-5. At this point, I can live with that. I hope your power rankings speak truth.

They're beginning to fall in line.
The big problem early in the season is that a lot of the offense and defense metrics get bloated for teams who play cupcakes. Heck, look at our own WVU game. But as teams play better competition, those numbers slowly fall in line. The most heartening thing is that UT has already played the two best offense in the league (and best by a very healthy margin), and UT’s defensive metrics are still very good. So while many teams will fight to keep their bloated numbers looking good, UT should actually see improvement. (And hopefully the offense will improve as a matter of course, though the Alabama defense probably won’t help much.)
But consider us, South Carolina, and Mississippi functionally equivalent to each other. Georgia is bumped simply because of a very nasty early slate of games.
