Tennessee sophomore forward Emmanuel Negedu underwent a surgical procedure on his heart at UT Medical Center on Tuesday and will not play for the Vols this season.
Negedu had a sub-pectoral implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD) implanted in his chest and is doing well, according to a UT release. Negedu is expected to remain at the hospital overnight for observation.

Didn't think he would, based on early reports
Conditioning required for peak performance in Pearl’s pressing D and high octane offense wouldn’t lend itself well to a young man who is recovering from getting a “sparky” put in his chest.
Negedu’s story was so moving. He worked so hard to achieve. He ate to survive and avoid hunger while growing up. He didn’t understand a UT profile question asking about “his favorite foods”. He said we don’t eat to enjoy food – we eat to survive.
Reviez on the basketball court. We will miss him.

This kid has his head on straight
But Negedu won’t be on the court this season for competition or practice, something that’s a struggle to accept….
“God is going to see me through this,” Negedu says. "With God, all things are possible. God is always in control. God gives life, and He takes life.
“There’s millions of people that never have the opportunity that I have right now. There’s too many people who wish they had this opportunity that I’m getting right now. I just have to make the right decision and make a good choice about it. I think I’m going to be fine.”
Could someone please send this link to the whiny upperclassmen on the football team who don’t understand it’s a gift to have a chance to play athletics at this level…
