Nice journalism from the Miami Herald.
After reading this piece from the Miami Herald, I sat in disbelief that someone could be that ridiculous. I guess one can never let journalism and common sense get in the way of pleasing the hometown crowd. After reading the article, I felt compelled to write the author a little note. Here is what I sent:
Mr. Goodman,
Your article entitled, "Vols' arrests should haunt Tennessee's Lane Kiffin" read exclusively as nothing more that a hit piece by someone who has a very clear axe to grind. I am well aware that it is an opinion piece and that you are conveying your own opinion. However, you seem to have let your hatred of Lane Kiffin cloud even very basic common sense.
To assert that Lane Kiffin could have prevented this is just lunacy. Look at every other university and you will find players making extremely poor decisions no matter who the coach is. To say that Kiffin's actions thus far set the bad example that led these student-athletes to commit this crime is equally as laughable. Why don't you wait and see the reaction to the situation by Kiffin and his staff before making your snap judgments. Have you, in kind, written such pieces in response to Florida's troubles with the law? Did you blame Urban Meyer? Lane Kiffin has dismissed several players for misconduct so far. Urban Meyer's disciplinary practices are suspect at best. Suspending a player for one half against Vandy for eye-gouging? Really? Meyer's track record is much more suspect.
If you really think that Kiffin is responsible for this, I cannot help you. Apparently, your vitriol has clouded your judgement so far that you just could not wait to be able to jump up and down and scream, "I told you so!!!" Newsflash: You look ridiculous. Tennessee fans remain firmly behind this coaching staff. I'm sure you'll continue your rants and raves down there in Miami where they tolerate your tripe. For the rest of the country, you are a silly man.
Ok, had to share that. Everyone continue enjoying your day. /trying to come down off high horse.

I'm in Ohio
and I run into a Florida fan – they are they same everywhere. I mention that I went to UT, and of course I hear a lecture on how Lane Kiffin is a fool and is going to fail, and he is starting a new penal colony in Knoxville, blah blah blah. These people are crazy! It’s like a disease or something. But they do sound as if they are trying to convince themselves too. I honestly think they are scared of Kiffin.
The thing I think is funny
Is how Florida fans say that they are “happy” Lane Kiffin stole Nu’keese Richardson away. They weren’t happy until this point because there was nothing hinting that they would pull a stint like this. They don’t have a history of stuff like that, are generally well-spoken, don’t give off the appearance of “thugs” or anything like that. But apparently the reason Nuke didn’t sign with Florida is because Urbie saw through the shennannigans or something like that.
Florida wanted Nuke really, really badly.

Where have you seen that?
I have noticed people saying we got lucky Lane “stole” Nu away from us becuase this is the last thing we needed going on with our media frenzy season.\
I have not noticed any Gator fans saying Meyer some how knew something like this would happen so he let Nu go…
This
Was a friend of mine, actually. I haven’t seen it on AA or TSK.

Was more than one florida-fan-friend of mine, though I didn’t mention that, so fair enough ;-)

Do you really think your going to get
anything out of this journalist by throwing Florida Gators in his face as an example, If I had to take a guess, he has written quite a few bad articles about FLA considering hes in MIA and they hate us.
Your number one point should of been calling out the Canes, especially since it was only 2 seasons ago they decided to have a all our fight on field with another team.
So my guess is you didnt really write a letter, and your just writing this to satisfy the Vol fans here…
Florida's a fair comparison.
The Miami Herald caters to both audiences, and UF has had their share of off-field trouble. Interestingly, though, those troubles don’t seem to have much effect on recruiting for Florida. Other schools might have been usable, but that doesn’t mean that using Florida isn’t reasonable.
IIRC, Orson has expressed grievances over Meyer’s discipline in the past – another exercise left to the reader.

I know they have
had their fair share of trouble, I am saying throwing Florida in his face isnt going to make the Journalist say “oh wow, you guys arnt as bad as we thought”. Because he probly has done many articles about FLA already.
Well, since we're both hopelessly partisan on the issue,
why not cede the conversation to Pat Forde?
… Or, if it’s just a flesh wound, maybe one of those Urban Meyer (7) half-game deals. …
;-D

Fair enough.
Even so, all Mr. Goodman needs to do then is link the other articles that are equally as critical of every single other coach that has had players with off-field incidents. Even if he does, the rhetoric used is absurd — and I don’t care who he is writing about.
By the way, Hook85, thanks for calling me a liar. That was a nice touch. If it really is necessary, I can provide a screen shot of the e-mail that includes the time stamp from my aol account.
