I don't have a problem with the scheme.

The losses in defense have finally caught up to the team. First, all the injuries. Then losing a starter and a vital backup two days before the game.

If our linebacker corps were healthy, the D would have had a much better chance. But they’ve been on their heels all day long.

This game is pretty much over

Let’s just use this as an opportunity to get better.

by ChattVol on Nov 14, 2009 2:53 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Really though

We know that McCluster is really good. Jevan Snead, no, but McCluster yes. There were games earlier this year that Dexter was only getting like 10 touches a game.

In the loss vs Bama

McCluster had 9 touches, total. In the loss against South Carolina he had 15 or 16.

I'll say this, though.

This is the first game of the year where we were simply outplayed.

UCLA and Auburn were the fault of our own troubles in the passing game. This one isn’t.

So, in terms of bowl scenarios...

South Carolina losing would certainly help…not sure what the best outcome is in Auburn/Georgia tonight, though I expect both to lose their season finales anyway. Still an outside shot at the Outback if they don’t want Auburn over us, though Auburn would deserve it more.

I’d still love to see the Hokies in Atlanta

by Will on Nov 14, 2009 3:17 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Auburn needs to win.

We can’t get 3rd in conference, so we absolutely must get 2nd in the East.

by Hooper on Nov 14, 2009 3:17 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

Our only shot at the Outback is that they pick us over Auburn, even though Auburn will have a superior resume.

by Incipient_Senescence on Nov 14, 2009 3:17 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

There's some small hope that they do this for two reasons:

1. Lane Kiffin media attention
2. We’re East. They’re West.

by Incipient_Senescence on Nov 14, 2009 3:18 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Point #1

would make a diff, but head-to-head should matter. 7-5 isn’t a guarantee if we keep losing players

LSU to the Capital One. the worst case will be Auburn to Outback and Ole Miss to Cotton.

Backers left (in no particular order):

Herman Lathers
Rico McCoy
Jerod Askew
Greg King
Robert Nelson
Nigel Mitchell-Thornton
Daryl Vereen

Then the scout team:
Shane Reveiz
Jake Storey
Josh Hawkins
Grant Jessen

and while there are some things to be justifiably upset about, barring disaster we’re still going bowling, and that’s improvement. Interesting to see how Kiffin handles being blown out for the first time.

Will we have to worry about him next year in Knoxville?

by Incipient_Senescence on Nov 14, 2009 3:31 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

In that case, I think we may be able to get the better of them next year.

by Incipient_Senescence on Nov 14, 2009 3:33 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Another bowl possibility. . .

If Ole Miss loses to LSU and State and we win our last two, we’d both be 7-5. We may get picked over them for Outback, despite the head to head, since Outback prefers the East. This is a lot of wishful thinking though.
