Alright guys chill out, we played a bad game

Yeah, losing to ole miss sucks, and like many other vols fans the mccluster-monster will haunt me in my dreams for years to come.  Truly, the team really did play a bad game.  But you know what?? Thats all that was.  Just a bad game.  Nothin more and nothin less.  We'll put it together and get a W next week.

Star-divide

Yeah, we probably werent focused, and yes, missing janzen did hurt us.  But hey, ole miss played well, and having watched the game, we were completely in the game with a good shot to win up until mccluster scored his fourth td with 13:59 to go in the fourth.

Everywhere I look (GVX, volnation ect..) vols fans are distraught and frenzied about this loss.  Unsurprisingly, Adams wrote a particularly negative piece on GVX about the vols that hailed this loss as a "major stepback for Kiffins rebuilding proccess".  I dont think so.  I think we played a bad game, like everybody does at one point or another.  I also think that we'll get this mess with our retarded freshman figured out, and we will move on, and be stronger because of it.  I also think that Vandy and Kentucky are still Vandy and Kentucky, and that we are still Tennessee.  That still means something.

This is a rebuilding year guys, and stuff like this happens.  We can still finish 8-5, which I would certainly take for a rebuilding year like this one.  Then next year, the players' 2nd yr in the system, we can  go undefeated and win the national championship.  But thats next year, and this year is still far from being over.  There's still lots of football to be played ladies and gents.  Theres a lot to play for.

So what if we played a bad game?  It happens to the best of us.  We'll just regroup and git em next week.

GO VOLS!

I'm mostly with you.

I think that, more importantly than the JJ loss, the linebacker injuries may have finally caught up to the team. It’s very hard to be successful when you’re on your third-string signal caller (and that not an indictment at all). The team has shown a lack of depth in the past (e.g. when the bench went in against WKU and Memphis), and losing starters to injury/stupidity hurt worse than we’d like to admit.

I’m not quite as optimistic about 2010, though. Much as I think they’ll continue to improve, the loss of the quarterback and most of the offensive line should make things difficult on them – especially since there will be so few upperclassmen on the O-line. I think we’ll be better off on the defensive line turnover, though.

But I’d peg 2010 in the 9-10 win range to be successful.

I would agree, 9-10 wins and/or a division title would be a success in my book

But there are plenty of reasons to think that maybe, just maybe, we could accomplish more than that:

1) By all accounts, Nick Stephens seems to be more or less the same player as crompton, and he has experience in the big games (i.e. alabama 08, georgia 08). Also, with a whole season to just sit back and learn the offense, he should be more than ready next year

2) Bryce Brown =friggin stud. Dont forget Oku, Poole and Toney Williams should something happen to this beast of a running back.

3) The receiving corps. We have a veteran and talented receiving corps that have proven they can make plays, and should make life easy for Stephens. We have at the very very least four proven targets (assuming nuke gets kicked off the team) in Jones, Moore, Stocker, and Teague).

4) The whole Defense. yes we lose Berry, but top to bottom, this looks like a great unit; especially with all the depth we have built this year with underclassman playing up b/c of injuries

5) Luck and improved special teams. Had the vols had one of the two this year, we would not have lost to ucla and bama (you could make a case for auburn and florida too).

6) Players that we dont know about now but will step up and be great. Ya know. Denarius moore, nick reveiz, and art evans type guys.

There ya go. six reasons for the eternal optimist :)

Those are all well and good

But you failed to mention the O-line, which is the biggest cause for concern.

Also, I’m not convinced that Stephens is better than JC. Which one was so highly recruited out of high school, anyways? He looked even last year, but perhaps that can be put on the coaches.

  1. We don’t play UCLA.
  2. Tim Tebow is Gone.
  3. We don’t play Auburn.
  4. Terrence Cody is Gone.
  5. Dexter McCluster is Gone.

So, obviously, we’re going to win all of our games!!!!!!!!11

this is tennessee were talkin bout

the line WILL be decent at the very least. Im sure weve got plenty of fat kids to choose from :). On a serious note, I believe that the competition in practice this year will build good depth for next year…and im sure plenty of backup lineman got experience against memphis and western kentucky respectively. I am not real worried bout the line

Our schedule is brutal next year

I will be happy if we can keep the same record and just get some depth

Living in Alabama is like living 50 years in the past, they are still just as racist, just as educated, the state constitution forbids any kind of public transportation, and all they can talk about is Bear Bryant

How many “bad games” can a team play in one year?

the close games we had, the defense showed up: offense sucked
the games we won, defense played great: the opposing defense sucked

bottom line – good defense: mediocre offense = not good enough in SEC

My dad told me when I was 8 years old, "Never hit a man while he is down... it so much easier to kick him!!!!"

I think you're right

Once we get into the “Kiffin era” talent, The Vols are gonna be a force to be reckoned with once more!
I was MORE than skeptical of Kiffin when they hired him; I just KNEW he’d screwed up when he let Chavis go, but the results so far have won me over.
Next season is liable to be rough as well, but when we get guys who have been in the system for three years, we’ll be unstoppable-AGAIN!

Naturally, that also depends on if the refs actually learn to make the right calls.
There have been a LOT of missed calls, but worse more WRONG calls this year throughout NCAA FB! Kiffin’s not the only coach with a deserved beef against bad calls this year.

As always though, the SEC has shown exactly why WE are the best conference in the NCAA!!

GO VOLS!!!
