Why do opposing kickers never miss against Tennessee????
I dont know about you guys, but it drives me crazy that whoever we play our opponents always always ALWAYS make their field goals. and we dont. and its frustrating. Let me show you some disturbing numbers:
First, since WKY didnt kick any field goals, lets start with UCLA:
UCLA: 4/5 on FG
UF: 3/3 on FG
OH: 3/4 on FG
AU: 4/5 on FG
UGA: 1/1 on FG (their lone hit was a ridiculous 53 yarder)
Bama: 4/4 on FG
South Carolina: 2/2 on FG
So ladies and gentlemen, opponents made 21 of their 24 field goals attempted againt Tennessee this season. That is an astonishingly high 88%. That just doesnt happen. It doesnt happen to anyone BUT the big orange. Now we are a damn fine fotball team, but Murphys Law certainly apples to Tennessee's special teams; what can go wrong WILL go wrong. I dont know this for sure, but I would wager that we have the highest percent of made field goals allowed on us in the NCAA.
Sorry guys , I had to get that out. Its been eating at me for a while. Btw no teams have missed a PAT on us either.
GO VOLS!!!!

Wait, we're talking about 2009....
2007 and South Carolina/Vanderbilt/Kentucky’s inability to make a field goal against you guys still haunts me.

Lol
That is true, and a fair point. Sometimes they bounce our way, sometimes they don’t but it’s very frustrating to see kickers constantly pouring it on from hard angles against you.

I hear ya
I’d rather it be FGs than all the TDs that the Georgia defense is giving up these days. I contend that the FGs against you guys this year is just karma tilting in the other direction after all the blessings it showered on Fulmer over the years. For reference see: Stoerner, Clint and 2007 FGs.

That 21 FGs against is the highest in all Division 1-A.
Virginia is second at 19, Washington at 18, Michigan at 17, VTech and Boston College at 16. So UT is well ahead in having FGs scored on them.
However, they are tied for 113 for TDs scored against them, along with Cincy and TCU (11 TDs). Florida and Penn State have only had 8 against, and LSU, Nebraska and Alabama are at 10 against.
So UT is among the best at stopping touchdowns, but is getting drilled by field goals. As frustrating as that is, I’m ok with it.

I dont really know league avg's
we have considerable less amount of attempts but teams against us so far our 11-13 on FG’s. Thats 85%. So maybe the problem is dont let them get in FG range…
