Lady Vols basketball is back!

Lady Vols Logo

Tonight will be an exhibition game against the relatively local Carson-Newman Lady Eagles  We'll start talking more about the Lady Vols as the beginning of the actual season approaches, but here are a few bits of information for you.

Coverage

The game will start at 7  PM EST in TBA.  Live video will be broadcast over the internet, courtesy of CBSSports.com.  Here is the link, which should open in a new window.  (If that doesn't work, go here.  Also opens in a new window.)

Starting Lineup

The starters have been announced, and in true exhibition fashion, will give a chance for youth to learn first-hand alongside experience.  One interesting note here is that there are no seniors in the lineup whatsoever.  Get used to these names; they are going to be here for a while.

There it is!

Better late than never, I guess.

10:32 left in the first half.

33-5 Tennessee. No, there’s no tens digit missing from Carson-Newman’s score there.

This team is working pretty hard, especially defensively. Granted, C-N is outmatched, but it’s nice to see the effort.

Also give Mickey Dearstone credit.

He knows all the names on both teams. No stumbles. No mispronunciations.

No kidding.

I love that press, too.

This is a straight-up mismatch.

I know it’s an exhibition and all, but is there anything we can learn from this?

Eric Berry for sending the guy who wins the Heisman spinning 720 degrees in the air at the podium - or for intercepting it and returning it to where it rightfully belongs

Press, press, more press.

Summitt really had them working the full court today.

They're rough on fast breaks.

Several passes were Stafford specials into the cheerleaders.

Cain is a beast.

She actually looks a lot more agile this year. Had some pretty sweet moves.

Thanks for the LV love, gents!

We'll be here all year!

Can’t guarantee a thread for everygame. (SBN isn’t yet set up for easy game threads for the ladies, but we’re hoping.) We’ll do what we can, though.

Game over right now?

Yeah.

124-34, if I caught the score right.

by Hooper on Nov 5, 2009 9:12 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, pretty much.

C-N couldn’t handle the full-court press, and Summitt didn’t seem to be of a mind to give the Lady Vols a break.

by Hooper on Nov 5, 2009 9:19 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Oh, yeah.

(Is that enough ’yeah’s for a bit?)

by Hooper on Nov 5, 2009 9:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I should also add that a lot of their points came off threes.

C-N couldn’t do anything in the interior. That was the mismatch part speaking, though; Tennessee was just too big and long (and, honestly, fast).
