Of course, the day kicks off again with ESPN College GameDay, which starts at 10:00 and shoots live from. . . wha? . . . Colorado Springs for the Army-Air Force game. Huh. Comments on that?

Quick question, as a Vol fan, who are you rooting for in the LSU-Alabama game? LSU, because you hate Alabama, or Alabama, because that would be the first domino to fall in the unlikely scenario Tennessee finishes the season the third best team in the SEC?

Leave your comments on GameDay and/or the early games below.

Definitely LSU

We don’t need Alabama to win another 7 National Championships this season.

Those people are insufferable as it is.

While that is true...

I don’t want to suffer through another UF-LSU game if they were to play in the SEC championship game. The first one was painful to watch.

It is hard-wired in my DNA to root against Bama.

SEC/national scenarios don’t interfere with that.

I can root for Bama in the regular season under a couple of exceptions to my rule:

1. They are playing Florida or Georgia during years in which those schools’ fans are particularly insufferable; or
2. Bama winning will directly help the Vols. (I don’t consider “first domino to fall in the unlikely scenario Tennessee finishes the season the third best team in the SEC” to be directly helping the Vols.)

In bowl season, all bets are off. I have found myself getting swept up in “SEC! SEC!” pride the past few years and rooting for some teams I would otherwise never root for, Florida included.

I would ordinarily be pulling for LSU with everything in me

But I want Alabama to make a good show of it so that I feel better about the 12-10 loss. Also, I kinda want LSU to vindicate me for insisting they’ve been overrated all season.

by Incipient_Senescence on Nov 7, 2009 10:09 AM EST reply actions

I'm in the same category

The better Alabama is, the better that 12-10 loss is. I love Chavis, and I doubt we get the necessary total collapse from LSU to make the CapOne Bowl…but I’m still pulling for Alabama today.

New to posting here.

Ok guys I have been here lurking and reading the great content for way tooo long to stay out of the comments and discussions any longer. I’m gonna jump in with both feet here now! This game is a huge one for not only the SEC but for the way that all of ESPN and it’s “experts” (using that term loosly) can beat down the SEC and it’s powerful teams. I really want LSU to win the game however I think if LSU runs over Bama then here we go again with all the comments about the “OVERRATED” SEC. Really the only guy on ESPN giving the SEC the credit that it deserves is Mark May and to some point Lou Holtz. Those game day guys are all about UF but not so much on Bama and it’s past wins this season. We all know HERE how strong the SEC is and how GREAT of a conference it is so I just hate any situation that gives those guys a reason to question the strength.

I'm cheering for LSU

But I wouldn’t be horrified to see Alabama win. I’ll say this: the people over at RBR earned my respect for the way they handled bulldurham’s fanpost. That was classy, and I have to say that I’m impressed, and thankful for their response to the message.

But, with regards to Florida/Alabama: I will always cheer for them to lose in the regular season, but I won’t necessarilly be mad if they win. In the SEC championship game, I’d probably root for Alabama/LSU. In bowl games I root for Alabama/Florida but, this time, I’m not too sad to see them lose ;-).

cheering for bama

for the simple fact that it means UF vs. Bama in the championship. beyond the fact that I really want to see that game happen, it also would mean the SEC for sure gets a team to the BCS championship game. i don’t want the scenario where LSU, Bama, and UF all have one loss and the conference gets shut out of the Big One. gotta keep the streak alive.

Barring tragic unforseen upsets

by Will Shelton on Nov 7, 2009 3:12 PM EST up reply actions

Actually

Our spot might get taken by Ole Miss. The Outback can choose another SEC West team (after the Cotton chooses) rather than take the top East team. So if Auburn gets the Cotton, the Outback would then be left to choose between UT and Ole Miss.

what would happen if Ole Miss beat us and then lost to LSU

by Will Shelton on Nov 7, 2009 3:18 PM EST up reply actions

We do have a very real shot at #3 in the SEC with that.

And UT would be riding a much more solid winning streak while LSU would appear fragile and Ole Miss would be numerically behind.

by David Hooper on Nov 7, 2009 3:19 PM EST up reply actions

That's if we beat Ole Miss and Ole Miss beat LSU

Which would be very interesting. Would a 4-loss UT on a 5 game win streak be more attractive than a 3-loss LSU that went 2-2 in its last four? It’s possible.

Or the student section?

Stanford 17-7 on Oregon

We haven’t had one of these “We’re all going down!” Saturdays yet…

by Will Shelton on Nov 7, 2009 4:20 PM EST reply actions

This is the week for it, too, isn't it?

Just when you thought it was safe to come out for Homecoming….

by Chris Pendley on Nov 7, 2009 4:22 PM EST up reply actions

I'm all of a sudden happy that we HAVE homecoming this week.

Given how downtrodden Memphis is right now, it’d be very hard for them to jump on the upset bandwagon.

by David Hooper on Nov 7, 2009 4:23 PM EST up reply actions

And how much they're terrible. Don't forget that.

by Chris Pendley on Nov 7, 2009 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

Possibly. But this would be their best game by far, and I don't know if that tops Boise.

If Auburn stays hot, that really helps LSU

They put 63 on Furman today, which really means nothing, but LSU really crushed them and need it to matter

by Will Shelton on Nov 7, 2009 4:27 PM EST up reply actions

Beat me to it.

LSU made that TD drive look easy.

I haven’t seen Alabama dissected like that in a while.

Oh, my bad.

That S is in the student section. For some reason, I thought OSU was the home team.

by David Hooper on Nov 7, 2009 4:33 PM EST reply actions

I was going to say.

by Chris Pendley on Nov 7, 2009 4:38 PM EST up reply actions

But it's a pretty cool idea.

Think we can convince the UTAD to spring for a Power T in a road game next year? At LSU or Georgia would be the best options.

by David Hooper on Nov 7, 2009 4:39 PM EST up reply actions

I'm going to go with no.

How big would the T be, anyway? It’d have to be across 2-3 sections to be of any real size.

by Chris Pendley on Nov 7, 2009 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

It's have to be black on orange. The white would be too diffuse.

It’d also have to be a stadium that is as kind to visitor seating as Neyland is.

by David Hooper on Nov 7, 2009 4:45 PM EST up reply actions

Oh, black on orange?

There’s no way Mike Hamilton would do that*.

No turnovers or anything else squirrely, just getting it done

Oregon has run 13 plays, Stanford 29. 216 yards of offense for The Tree just barely into the second quarter

No kidding.

Colorado beat Texas A&M

If Hawkins wins out, the Colorado AD may have an excuse to not spend on a buyout. That is an AD that is in one very bad financial position.

I've just seen so many bad passes to open guys, and I'm a neutral observer.

I know LSU has a good defense, but still.

And LSU is now officially into 'get to halftime' mode.

Jefferson will be out a play or two. With luck, they can just let him go into halftime.

21-7 Navy.

The gf called and I missed the first halves

I’ll probably miss the 2nd halves working on a term paper. 9.5 pages down, 5.5 to go. If anyone has some suggestions on how to handle the relationship between innateness, a prioricity, and necessity, let me know.

by Incipient_Senescence on Nov 7, 2009 5:26 PM EST reply actions

Haha. Yeah, philosophy can be tough

But it’s fun, although this isn’t my favorite subject of all. I do like getting to read Leibniz. Good luck with your paper.

Also, Notre Dame was just picked inside the red zone.

Thankfully

Mine’s not due til Monday, though we’re together on the 15 pages

by Will Shelton on Nov 7, 2009 5:33 PM EST up reply actions

Mine is actually not due for quite a while

But I have six papers to do in the next three weeks. Three are term papers, and two are 15 pages. So I can’t really let this stuff sit any longer.

Looks like Ohio State may have locked up the victory over PSU

17-7 with the offenses sputtering. Their longest TD drive is 2 plays, but it looks like it may be enough. Ohio State may make the Rose Bowl yet again if they can edge Iowa. I’d like to see them get thrashed by Oregon.

by Incipient_Senescence on Nov 7, 2009 5:58 PM EST reply actions

Speaking of

they still can’t stop Stanford. 38-21 Cardinal in the third quarter

38-28 now.

Provided Oregon makes it, which isn't looking like a guarantee.

Oregon will make it

This was a classic letdown scenario. They still have a cushion in the standings and they have a game against their closest challenger (Arizona), who I think they beat.

lol

this’ll end that Heisman nonsense. I love the Clausens, but that stuff was ridiculous

Hope nobody gets injured diving off that bandwagon.

Bigger issue now: Weis may not last the season. I don’t want Brian Kelly there.

Alabama's doing the Safety Dance.

Intentional grounding in the end zone, 10-9.

Wow. Oregon's defense is terrible today

And Ohio State is going in for the dagger. We’ll see if they get it.

by Incipient_Senescence on Nov 7, 2009 6:14 PM EST reply actions

They do

So if they beat Iowa, they’ll have the tiebreaker in a three way tie atop the Big 10.

by Incipient_Senescence on Nov 7, 2009 6:15 PM EST up reply actions

Just when you thought the Buckeyes were dead, they're baaaaack.

Seriously. I wrote something earlier today comparing Iowa to Jason, but that’s the wrong Big 10 team.

Actually

They’ll have a tiebreaker in a 4-way tie. Wisconsin has the schedule to finish 10-2 as well. Wow. We could see four Big 10 teams as 10-2, and none of them are any good.

by Incipient_Senescence on Nov 7, 2009 6:16 PM EST up reply actions

Alright

11 pages down, 4 to go. And I think the rest will be saved until after the UT game. In the interim, food and other football should happen.
