If UK has to upshift to beat the likes of Indiana by 17...

…then I like our chances.

Here is my take. I have seen UK play several times now and they really aren’t that good at basketball. I realize this is said about UT a lot and so I hate to turn it around on another team, but with UK this year the lack of organization is exceedingly conspicuous.

I realize that all of you aren’t gamblers, and that’s totally cool. But when you do bet on games (and I do it rather well…don’t need to knock on wood…it isn’t luck) you gain a different — and I would argue a more complete — perspective on a team. Good teams don’t just win the games — they cover the spread too. Michigan state was a prime example last year. They were sort of under the radar all year, and man Izzo was a covering machine. I rode izzo all season long. Not this year. Izzo can’t cover a spread to save himself.

Same is true of Kentucky. They are undefeated and are definitely under .500 against the spread. They finally covered the spread against Indiana, but guess what ti was? UK -9. That’s it. And in case you had forgotten, IU is dreadfully bad at basketball. TERRIBLE. If Tennessee played IU on their home court tomorrow, we’d be favored by 16.

I am probably getting more long winded than really necessary here. Bottom line: UK is not that good. Yes, they are talented. But they are epically disorganized. Yes, Wall is better than Derrick Rose. But Wall doesn’t try to take over games. He won’t beat us by himself.

There three possibilities for the UT/UK series this year:
1. UT wins both
2. Split
3. UK wins both

And there is only one of those possibilities that isn’t even a possibility at all. Yes, you guessed it….#3. They won’t sweep us. No way. Best case scenario for WWWUniversity is a split against the Vols.

You heard it here first.

Next!

...just apologize for not thanking me.

The 1970 game between Alabama and USC has been heralded by many (usually Trojan fans) as the contest which lead to the integration of Crimson Tide football. It's nonsense, of course, but that hasn't stopped that version of the story from spreading by West Coast revisionists.

One reasons Tennessee fans should be disappointed with this sloppy telling of history is that it almost completely discounts a historic game involving the Vols a year earlier.

In 1969, Lester McClain and Jackie Walker (pictured above) started in the Third Saturday in October game and broke the color line at Birmingham's Legion Field (a third black player, Andy Bennett, got into the game as well). Not only that, the Vols handed Bear Bryant's Tide team a 41-14 beatdown that afternoon.

I tell a bit of the tale at Roll Bama Roll today in my scathing review of a book about the 1970 Alabama vs. USC game, One Night, Two Teams.
