PF Jayvaughn Pinkston commits to Villanova
From what I believe is a free $ Rivals article...
Pinkston was originally scheduled to make his college commitment before the Fall deadline but abruptly canceled the announcement. It was widely speculated that Pinkston was going to choose Tennessee. Asked whether or not Tobias Harris committing to TN effected Pinkston's final decision, Young (Pinkston's AAU coach) responded, "That's a better question for Tennessee."
Young said that hopefully Pinkston and Harris will ultimately have an opportunity to play against each other in college but added, "But they will play against each other before then." Pinkston and Harris a scheduled to play against each other in January during the Big Apple Basketball Invitational, when Bishop Loughlin HS plays Half Hollow Hills West HS. "Let's just hope that someone doesn't claim to have a bad ankle before the game," said Young.
Interesting.

That is not a better question for Tennessee.
Why would you ask UT why Jayvaughn committed elsewhere? Ultimately, it was his decision.
There’s nothing wrong with saying that he liked the opportunity better at V. But already I’m not endeared to Young.
Forgive me for jumping to silly conclusions
But if I didn’t know any better, I’d say the answer to the question in the first paragraph was “yes.”
Yeesh! They (or at least their AAU coaches) must really hate each other or something.
If that's true
we probably don’t want the kid anyway. There’s a measure of wanting to be the feature guy that’s understandable, but generally players that don’t want to come to a school because they’re worried about someone else already being there are not what you’re looking for in the long run.

I think it's pretty obviously true.
His backing down from signing a LOI came at the same time as Harris’s signature. That, and we haven’t heard a thing about UT rescinding the offer to Pinky. That would have been news.

I know very little about AAU, but each time I hear something, I don't like it.
Sponsor interference (real or perceived, whichever); college coach extortion (real); these silly little spats straight from pro wrestling interviews. No thanks. I watch sports to get a break from that stuff.
The imp in me kinda wishes that Tobias would skip that event altogether. Something with a response of, “I don’t want to be a part of this circus” would be great. I mean, he already has his scholarship locked in place. He doesn’t need it anyhow. But that’s just the imp in me.

Very good chance we just dodge a bullet...
Harris is obviously a great signing, but Pinkston sounds like a bit of a nancy boy primadonna. That, or his AAU coach does a lot of talking for him.
Guys who aren’t ready to be team players don’t work out well in Coach Pearl’s system, and although I’m sure the guy is supremely talented… 7 of 35 FGatt stat lines hurt us, even if the double digit points look pretty.
Let's not railroad this kid
because he chose Villanova. Just another example of an “advisor” looking stupid and causing public opinion to look poorly on a high school kid.
Oh, and Prometheus….def grade A
Agreed.
At 18, none of us were world-savvy types. He’s trying to find the best option for him, and his current coach is going to be a strong influence. I have no problem with Pinky in this one.

Jayvaughn Pinkston
To all the Tenn fans trashing Villanova. Please remember that Nova is the better program in basketball.
Pinkston just wanted to play for a team with a chance to win the national championship.
So stop all the bickering, this kid is great and many experts say he was a steal.
I don't think anyone is trashing Nova
and Nova is the better program in basketball, traditionally, though I think both are going to have a chance to win championships under their current administrations. And I think the experts agree that Pinkston is talented. The situation is just interesting with the AAU coach and Pinkston changing his mind, though I’ve read elsewhere that most of this “rivalry” between Harris and Pinkston is inflated by those around them and not the players themselves.
