Mock Tourney Selection: Value-less But Informative
Mock selection committees are much like Kiper's draft projections: all speculation gets tossed the instant the real thing appears. However, it's interesting to see the thought process boil down and how the schools in the SEC fared. Tennessee can thank their SoS for some help. Kentucky fans can't be pleased.

Patterson not playing
And without PatPat, Ogilvy got to the line eight times in the first half. Meeks can’t beat teams by himself without Patterson there to back him up; somebody else has to step up now for Kentucky or they don’t make it.

Meeks
is 4 of 13, UK’s shooting 38% and getting outrebounded. No one else stepping up. Problems you’ve had all year usually don’t tend to right themselves in the 26th game of the season.
That said, the selfish part of me wants them to win so it’ll mean more if we beat them on Saturday.
You might get your wish yet.
4-point difference at the 12-minute timeout. Vandy’s in the obligatory dry spell.

There are a lot of fouls in this game.
15 on Vandy, 20 on Kentucky with 10 minutes to go. I sense massive foul trouble on the horizon.
Kentucky is out of sorts.
They’re frustrated and it shows in their play. If they don’t settle their emotions now, they’re done.
Can't wait to hear what Billy G has to say about that

Oh, I'm sure he hasn't noticed...
Give Vandy credit though; they’ve been driving inside effectively for much of this game. Most of the fouls have come on those drives.

The kind folks at A Sea of Blue haven't noticed either.
o.O

I looked at that too
Less “FIRE GILLISPIE” than I expected. Maybe we can help that along this weekend.

Perhaps.
They’ve been very loyal to him so far. I don’t know how the whole Tubby thing worked out, but there’s not a lot of dissension in the ranks.

What's interesting here
is the way a significant percentage of UK fans seem to blame Gillispie for so many of their problems, without calling for his job. The grace afforded in only his second year? Maybe.

Maybe, but I'm glad they're patient.
Basketball is such a point of pride, it’d be easy to turn on him at the first sign of trouble. Kudos for giving him 3-4 years. (I wonder if Kiffin will be afforded the same luxury, honestly.)

Kiffin will be given 2
Because it took Nick Saban 2.

And that's the game. Vandy 77, UK 64
Even with 26 points, Meeks was contained for nearly half the night. It’s a good thing UK has him; they don’t seem to have much else without him (Patterson excepted).
Oh, hey, if I knew this was gonna be an impromtu game thread I woulda checked in more often =P
Yeah, so now its a TWO way tie for tops in the east.
I didn't know either until I saw the first comment.
so IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT!!! ;-D

You know, Vandy may yet play their way in.
Their closing schedule isn’t great, but it isn’t brutal either. 3 wins isn’t out of reach, which would give them 19. A couple of SEC tourney wins and they’d have a real case.
I so can't see that happening.
Cause it’s not just that they’ve lost, it’s how they’ve lost. No way they make it in unless they go to the SEC Championship game.

I'll defer the point.
I’m not the expert on these things, by a long shot. But I do know that 20 wins is something of a magic number of sorts.
by David Hooper on Feb 17, 2009 11:25 PM EST up reply actions
Really it's 10-6
in the SEC. But Vandy is, right now, just 5-6 in the SEC with 3 of their last 5 coming on the road (@ UF, @ LSU, and @UGA) and Vandy is 2-5 on the road with wins over UMASS and Auburn. So they’ll have to go way deep to get there as well as finish 4-1 or 5-0.

Well, the SEC in general is so addicted to cupcakes,
the diabetes rate remains at an all-time high. Good thing Pearl keeps UT’s diet kosher.

true
but still, Vandy has the weakest SOS in the East.
by bobo_the_vol on Feb 17, 2009 11:44 PM EST up reply actions
Vandy Stats:
RPI: 100 SOS: 106 <— so at 15-9 they = suck. They’d really have to finish perfect, I think, to even get consideration for the tourney. As in win 7 or so games.
Whereas us at 16-8 (RPI: 18 SOS: 3) probably only need to hit 20 wins to lock up a bracket spot.
