Interesting point.
Like I’ve said before, I’m not a basketball guy, so I’ll have to defer the conversation to those who know better. I do firmly believe that strong point guard play is the most important element to a team (especially offensively). I also think that Pearl was expecting West to be the guy until the NCAA decided they’d mess around with him and yank his scholly partway through a semester. (Serious side conversation there: why couldn’t West keep the scholly and simply not play? He was already in classes and the payment deadline had already passed.)
Maze is still getting most of the time, from what I can tell.
That’s according to KenPom, though (I think I’m really going to like this site once I figure out more about it). Shockingly, he’s 2nd on the team in percentage of minutes played (beyond Tyler Smith; Chism – and, to an extent, JP Prince – apparently get in a fair amount of foul trouble) at 65, while Tabb’s closer to 40. Tabb seems to be a smarter shooter, but …that seems about it. I wonder how much of this has to do with Pearl’s desire to shoot threes; Tabb is just behind Hopson in 3-pt percentage, but with 1/4th the attempts.
Honestly, I’m not totally sure I get it, and I’m not familiar enough with the metrics to be able to study them and come to some kind of conclusion.

Hooper, your right I think Bruce was counting on West making an impact. Hopefully we will next year. I will even concede that if the guy has to be Tabb then let him play 30 plus minutes. This you play five and i’ll play five pattern is just not working. As far as the West scholly I am not sure what happened there or what the rules even are. Alot of people talk about evaluating talent i.e. with Fulmer and now Kiffin, I wonder if Pearls achillies heel maybe his evaluation of Point Guard play. He pulled that stunt in the Tourney last year by inserting J.P. the week of a sweet sixteen game. (not very smart) oh well nobody is perfect

point guard play is good but not as good as it used to be.
let me tell you guys. i’ve whatched basketball all my life and i know for a fact that point guard play is getting worse every year. yeah its decent but its most point guards arnt playing team ball anymore, instead they are hogging the ball and playing like they are all lebron james but they arnt because they cant finish a freaking shot!
As I often say, I'm certianly no basketball expert.
But I firmly believe that a team’s success is most strongly tied to the play of their point guard. If they have a guy at point who can efficiently run the offense and knows how to maximize their chances of success, they’ll be a team that “overperforms”. If the point doesn’t have the whole team concept, they’ll never reach their potential.

thats why I would love to see one point guard, if it is Maze fine if it is Tabb fine, but just pick one and let him run the game, I still dont understand the whole substitution by clock method. Pearl subs based on time and not according to how a player is playing. just one of my small gripes.
