Is this the beginning of the consolidation of the men's & women's athletic departments? Informative piece with Mike Hamilton.

Curse you, Red Paywall Baron!!!
Since I obviously don’t have a VolQuest account, I’ll take your word on the article. However, everything I have heard suggests that Joan Cronan is wholly opposed to consolidation; if it ever does happen, we’re probably looking at the next women’s AD before it does.
Other than that, merging is something they’ve been doing for the last 10 years or so. They merged their ticket offices a few years back to cut down on redundant operations, for example. Merging is the primary reason they’ve been able to decrease their budgets despite things like increasing coaching salaries.
I imagine it’ll happen someday, for better or for worse. I still hope they keep the UTADs separate from the university though. Despite the protestations of some faculty members from certain departments that don’t bring in significant revenue streams, the university benefits more in this arrangement than in a fully merged form.

Of course, I could be wrong.
Some comments I’ve seen suggest that a merge could happen as soon as July 1st. (They refer to the same article or I’d link. D’oh!)
Holding pattern…

A Sample:
While Hamilton could not comment on the specific departments affected by the merger because of the March 10 deadline, multiple sources confirmed to VolQuest.com that the Compliance, Development, Event Management and Sports Information departments will be merged by July. It is unclear how many staff reductions will take place because of the mergers, but some positions will be lost, according to sources.
Baby steps are steps all the same.
