Last 4 Years
As I enjoy my last semesters at UT. I’ll be graduating next December. I thought I’d take a look back at the last 4 seasons of Tennessee football and the games I’ve attended. Maybe the numbers will tell me something about how I decide to watch the game trends with the outcome, and maybe I will use that to our advantage in my last season as a student next year. Just to clarify I’ve attended every home game the last 4 years except the 2 Kentucky games because I was home for Thanksgiving. I’ve been to road games at Alabama, Auburn and the SEC Championship against LSU. The only games I didn’t get to see at all were 2006 Kentucky and 2008 Vanderbilt for various conflicts. Having that said Lets see what the last 4 years look like…

A few memories…
Favorite Player – Offense
Erik Ainge
Being from the Philadelphia area I have a soft spot for guys who get kicked around and rise from the ashes and succeed. My freshman year Erik Ainge was the poster boy of everything that went wrong in the 2005 season. I remember thinking in the Memphis game I couldn’t imagine someone playing any worse at QB. But the neat thing about college sports is you get to see players grow up and get better right before your eyes. Erik Ainge was a different person and player when he graduated from UT and a guy I really enjoyed watching his last two years.
Favorite Player – Defense
Eric Berry
No write up necessary. One of the best football players in NCAA history and I’ll have been on campus for what will likely be his entire collegiate career. That is pretty cool.
Favorite Game:
Cal 2006
After my first season following the Vols consisted of a few isolated bright spots but largely underwhelming football, the Vols came out 2006 swinging. It was the home opener, weather was great, I was happy to be back on campus, my family was in town and Neyland was just rocking. Finally, this was Tennessee football.
Biggest Heartbreaker:
LSU 2006
This one hurt. I wanted so badly for Jonathan Crompton to step in and be the hero to lead us to victory at home and really believed he could. The emotional highs and lows in this game don’t compare to any other I’ve attended. With Cromptons 4th quarter bomb to Robert Meachem making us taste victory to a 7 minute drive culminating in a game winning touchdown that just felt like a punch in the gut. I didn’t want to read or watch anything football related for 4 or 5 days.
(Honorable Mention: Penn State 2006 – I wanted this game bad. I was home watching it with all my high school friends, many of which go to Penn State and Tennessee just didn’t show up)
Trends…
Basically it looks like Tennessee fairs pretty well when I’m in attendance and is mediocre to bad when I check them out on TV. On the other hand the Vols are undefeated when I can’t watch them at all… and come to think of it the program just had better success in general before I started showing up. Oh well I’m hooked you guys are stuck with me.
Go Vols! Thanks Tennessee for the last 4 it’s been a fun ride and lets finish up on a high note in 2009!

Cool.
I went ahead and took the liberty of cleaning the mess up. Sorry about all that.
Now, we obviously don’t expect the correlation to imply causation when the Vols don’t seem to do as well when you OH YES WE DO BURN YOUR TV NOW BURN IT ORGERON DEMANDS IT BURN BABY BURN BURN BURN!!!

Its like the Tennessee version of WVU
Instead of couches we go for TVs. Better explosions, but probably doesn’t burn as long.
Getoffmyvols: Good luck with the senior year, make the best of it! I graduated in May ‘08, and senior (not UT but TU – Transylvania U) year is a blast. The one thing I do feel like I missed out on was the football experience because we don’t have a football team, but probably a good thing for me because no team could ever replace my Vols. So I’m a bit jealous. Hope you picked a good major, or the economy looks up by the time you graduate, I’m looking to go to grad school myself (UT law?) to get out of it.
now with less meyton panning.

Appreciate it
The biggest upside of doing a co op last spring was that I’ll get one more football season as a student. Hopefully they’re still hiring next December, fingers crossed.

I totally agree with you about Erik Ainge, he was all over the place, his freshman year I though he was going to be better then Manning by the time he was through, then he hit rock bottom and salvaged a career his senior year.
Eric berry enough said LOL
going by the trends we here at Tennessee need you to neither watch nor attend the games :), just kidding have a great senior year
