Lane Kiffin recruiting press conference open thread
Lane Kiffin's having a 5:30 p.m. press conference to discuss the day's events. Click on the link early because you'll need to install Silverlight if you don't already have it. It's fine. You worry too much.
If you're a Firefoxer, get Silverlight installed, and then download the Split Browser or Split Pannel [sic] plug in so you can have the video open on one half of your screen and can comment in the thread below in the other. (I like Split Browser better, by the way.)
See? Men can multitask. As long as you don't ask them to do it all at once.

Gonna be Jackson
I can feel it. The guy wants to play for Monte. Our secondary is going to be INSANE.
Remind me about Jackson.
I can’t remember off the top of my head and I don’t want to disturb the split screen.
Got it. Sorta.
I had to split with the presser on bottom and RTT on top to get the windows to play nice. Wanted side-by-side but oh well.
ditto here
Is the press conference feed live yet? Mine’s black.

I had people milling about for a while but all I have is the microphone with the Verizon/Power T checkered background.
No sound.
Hmm
And you have video but no sound?

Perhaps it’s not happening yet?

He is just commenting on why we have such low numbers...
Basically what we’ve all said… why waste schollies on guys who are just gonna get passed up in a year or two?
The only viable answer is:
“Because we have so few players that we need them to field a team.”
Fortunately, that’s not the case.
"Another big surprise here pretty quick"

He doesn't want to sign someone
just to get a body or improve a ranking. I like that.

He's right about the QBs
In Meat Market, a lot was about the domino effect that happens after the top QBs commit. If you want one of the best, you have to be early.

Something we missed...
Kiffin said that Marlon wanted to come to UT but his grandma didn’t want him to. Ouch.
I have read that CMR took a copy of Meat Market to Ms. Brown and she did not like what she saw…
I could see that
That’s a question I have for Bruce.

If true, that's 0-fer-2.
“The Blind Side” was very uncomplimentary of Fulmer. Now they have a book to wave around and spin about Orgeron.
Funny thing is
Is that he was a noble guy. Just profane.

Open to JUCO players
but they “have to be great players.”

Read between the lines, y'all
This is not a one year plan!

Good thing to remember:
Year prior to arrival in USC: 5-7
Year prior to arrival in UT: 5-7
1st year at USC: 6-6
1st year at UT: ???
Let’s not fantasize too much too soon.
They were just over 50%
the year before Orgeron got there, which was a year before Carroll, I think.

Unless you are booing UF, of course
Ha, just mentioned The Rock. I saw a picture of that over at Losers With Socks. Very funny.
Ok i'm in full panic mode
Is anyone else still receiving the broadcast? If so, what are you listening on?
Yeah we're missing the entire thing
I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone unsigned simply because our UT Sports website is so terrible.
Enough to miss the live feed of Coach O
Hopefully the Animal will replay.
OK fellas you will be hearing about me on the 10 oclock news
Someone must suffer for making me miss Da Coach O!
No Coach O
but we do have a news story about somebody head-butting somebody.

Quote from Marsalis Teague courtesy of GVX
“With all due respect to the last staff, if they were still there, I probably wouldn’t be going to the University of Tennessee,” he said. “The new staff came in with so much energy, it opened my eyes to a different part of Tennessee.”
Give the new guys some credit.
yes
With all due respect to Coach Fulmer, his model of coaching was simply outdated. I don’t mean the playcalling or anything like that. The idea that being a Junior or a Senior gives you any sort of priority for PT is just no longer practiced. Coach Meyer said today that they don’t even redshirt anyone anymore.
Again, I don’t mean to kick Coach while he is down. I have the utmost respect for him and what he has done.
Anybody clocking this?
It has to be a record. At least eight minutes straight of commercials and junk?

I think this seriously backfired.
We now know how much commercial time we normally endure when the radio is on.
Probably making up for missing a break
for the 5:30 press
Still paying the bills
Different package. Still a commercial.

Well there's your answer
No coach O.
Trivia question.
I’ll see you all at the game thread at 8:00. Until then, cello lessons for the youngin.

Well that's it for me guys
I think I’m gonna go check out the weather and then go buy some soup or something. Definitely won’t be drinking any alcohol though, despite the peer pressure. I’ll be sure to listen to THE SPORTS ANIMAL while I do all of that stuff, though.
First time I heard that was earlier today
That’s a good job of keeping a secret in a situation where everybody seems to know everything about kids.
I am really, really excited about him
He seems to really, really, really want to play for the Vols. I think he has that “chip on his shoulder” thing going. He seems very humble and respectful. I look forward to watching him play. I think he is going to be All Vol.
I am wondering how long this reporter procession goes on
before Kiffin actually gets up there, I’m at 4:30
Any thoughts on Hyams asking CLK about Thigpen?
Cheap shot, IMO.
Also I’m reading that PF said if he were still the HC, we would have gotten Brown.
Another cheap shot, I think.
Love to see the exact wording on Fulmer
If it’s the CPF I know and love, it’s something like “…and you know, we felt like we had good shot at Marlon, felt like we were in a good place with him and his family…and felt like we would’ve closed the deal.” That I’m alright with. “I would’ve gotten Marlon Brown” is different and out of character for Phillip
