My Favorite Part of Recruiting
90% of these guys end up redshirting their freshman year anyway, right? There's been more ink spilled (and bytes used) over recruiting than I could ever imagine - this has been the first year I've even kind of followed it in anything I'd term a timely manner - and at the end of the day, one or two guys might make a difference this year.
I know that's kind of the point and all, but I'm more than a little amused that everyone's got their dander all in a fluff over things Kiffin may or may not have said over some guy who not only probably won't see a game for 18 months, but got to experience the joy of getting his draft card less than a year ago. The entire experience is surreal. So sure, let's get huffy over some secondary violations (if you close your eyes and listen really closely, I think Steve Sarkasian just fired up the smoke machine again) because there's nothing else to do, but if Meyer uses this as motivation, I'd be a bit surprised. Were I him, I'd look to the press conference instead; that's the salvo, really. The intimations of impropriety are just the icing on the cake.
And I'd much rather see the shots at Bama instead. That's just more fun.

Hey
this was my first year to following recruiting heavily as well. P.S. I’d be more concerned about the veracity of your shots than where they are aimed :)

Lane has already apologized
for his comments this morning about UF. SEC and NCAA has called out Kiffen too and said hes committed an ethical violation for publicly criticizing another organization.
But hey, where was the NCAA and SEC when Spurrier was criticizing Kiffen on day one?
It’s also my first time following recruiting and its been exciting, and drove me to sign up so I can finally post!

Oh please.
That apology was so lame you can’t even really consider it an apology. He didn’t own up to making a false accusation., instead he just gave an excuse and then said he was sorry “if he offended anyone”. Only a homer would consider that sincere. As Gene Wojciechowski of ESPN put it:
“Even Kiffin’s late-afternoon apology was botched. He actually tried to rationalize the fact that he had accused another coach of cheating…If you offended anyone at Florida? Your remarks were so dumb I think even Florida State coach Bobby Bowden was offended.”
You simply cannot compare Spurrier’s comments to what Kiffin said. Spurrier said something like, “I don’t know if he passed the test yet, but he’s not supposed to do that if he hasn’t”. The intentions (i.e. taking a shot at another coach) might not have been to far off, but legally they aren’t even in the same ball park. Kiffin make a direct accusation which is a serious thing to do. He may have been trying to make a joke, but but when you state as a FACT that Meyer cheated it opens up a big can of worms.
That’s why Slive intervened. If Kiffin had been as savy as Spurrier and had phrased his statement differently then this would have been a much different situation. If he slips in an “I’m not sure, but I think Meyer might have been cheating” then he would just be making himself look like a dumbass who doesn’t know what’s going on, much like Spurrier did when he made the jab at Kiffin.

Sheesh..
I think what you, the rest of gator and bama nation need to understand is.. Kiffin really doesn’t care. He doesn’t care to step on anyone’s toes (and by the sound of you, he has not only stepped on yours, but crushed them to dust). This is how he makes a splash, and if bama or the gators hang 100 on us, it’ll be worth all this whining we’ve got to hear.

Heh,
The other MeytonPanning spells it differently.
And, like Joel said, welcome! I would just ask that you put your old name in the signature block for a week or so; that way, we can remember you from your first comments once your name switches.

"And I'd much rather see the shots at Bama instead. That's just more fun."
Agreed. And what would make it even more fun, is if you guys actually put a team on the field that wasn’t an embarrassment to the SEC.

What are you talking about Joel?
Alabama has never lost a game to UT. They win everything. Every year.

In fact that whole thing about losing to Utah
Was propaganda put on by the United States government. In fact, Bama crushed Florida in the SEC championship and went on to murder Oklahoma. The government just decided that since Alabama has been winning everything since the birth of Jesus Christ (since Alabama is his favorite place on earth), they had to do something so they took some school children and allowed them to dress up in full Alabama attire and play the Utes to make things seem more fair while Alabama was playing in Florida’s uniforms and John Parker Wilson was wearing a Tim Tebow suit. In fact, one year ago they made Alabama wear LSU uniforms when trouncing OSU. It’s probably the best thing the governments done since allowing us to be the first state with electricity back in 1999. Maybe some day the rest of the country will catch up. Here’s to winning everything forever!

i can understand why you're being dillusional about bama's success
especially considering how humbling it has been to see your football team look totally inept while getting curb stomped by your biggest rivals. bama had a great year. no bama fan can honestly say that they’re disappointed about anything that happened this season. i would’ve been happy for 8-9 wins, as would any other bammer. i’ve been a bama fan through the tough years, the good years, probation, and now our return to good years again. what that has taught me is humility. win like you’ve done it before. lose gracefully. i guess it’s just maturity.
having a decent recruiting class after a horrible year (see last year) definately gave way to optimism. it didn’t however, lead to brash, unfounded trash talking. how does coach kiffin expect to be taken seriously? hasn’t won a game yet. only hc experience was at oakland (and we all know how that went) and now he’s still an unproven coach.

Relax..
Did I say anything about bama having a bad year? Nope. Did any of us say a thing about Bama not being successful? Once again, nope. I think they did a lot better than everyone was expecting them to. They had a really good run for as mediocre as they were supposed to be. Sheesh..

For the last couple decades, either Tennessee or Alabama needs to be having problems.
Not both – just one. I agree with your hope that UT’s program comes back up to its desired level. Are you volunteering Alabama to take another turn so soon?

It really is nice to know...
that little ‘ole UT can get under the big powerhouses’ skin so much isn’t it? Yup.. as someone said earlier, even if the Tide and gators hang a bunch on us, it will be worth all the whining we get to hear.
