Bryce Brown Visiting UT
Bryce Brown may either be visiting next week or the following weekend from everything I've heard. There's even some rumors of him being a silent commit; however, I don't know much about that. I'm pretty sure he's planning on another USC visit, too (he and his brother visited there a while back and he says he'd like to see the place again).
Anyway, as much I was want this guy, I'm just so impressed we're even getting him to visit, if he does in fact visit. It's just got to say something about this staff that has not had the time they've needed to even get this guy to consider us.
Dunno if anyone's seen this yet, but, just in case...
Worth a read I suppose.
And here's the link to a VSPN radio special that featured interviews from Nuke, Marlon Brown, And Bryce Brown. 05/2009

This would be huge
if UT picked up another 5 star recruit. 4 years since we had one 5*, when was the last time we had 2?
now with less meyton panning.

Thought as much.
But still, Pride’s point is a good one. For a school with such recruiting success just a few years ago, the last 3-4 have been relatively dry.
?
Brent Vinson, Kenny O’Neal, Chris Donald, and Ben Martin were all 5 stars on both services as well. All in the same class as Berry.
And it was only 2 years ago.
Plus,
Tennessee has a home game against Vanderbilt that weekend on the 14th, so I’m sure Kiffin will take him there. He said the fans had a big thing to do with recruits signing the LOI, and what better way to show him how much we love our athletics?!
I'm all Vol*
DON'T MESS WITH THE LANE TRAIN, BECAUSE BIG ORANGE IS BACK!
Unfortunately he's down to Miami, USC, and Oregon
Aikman and Bradshaw?
Please. They are in the same league as Trent Dilfer and Jim McMahon as QBs who were taken to the SB by great Defenses and great Running Games.

Is
it true that this kid put his own web site that charged people for memberships? Sounds rather prima dona to me, maybe USC deserves him.

Sorta.
The website is run by potentialplayers.com, which is its own organization. I don’t know anything about them, but they advertise themselves as having the kids’ best interests at heart – including their adacemic and non-sport professional development. Again, I don’t know the veracity of that, but there you go.
His latest statement places Oregon in the lead (h/t Doc Saturday). FWIW.

I wonder if there are some rule issues there
With the money-making scheme. I have no idea, but it’s outside of the proverbial box.

Since nobody's really complained yet, I'm guessing the site figured out a way to do it within the rules.
I’m guessing that there are no financial arrangements between them and the players they “represent”. Instead, they most likely offer free consultation and advising services in exchange for exclusive updates on his thoughts and interests. A smart way to do it would be to research the various schools to see where a player’s interests are best served (education, playing potential, competition, surrounding cast, stability of coaches, etc.) and help the player compare their preferred picks side-by-side. If Oregon is indeed in this kid’s lead now, it’d be because he would have reasonable opportunity to run up nice stats there against teams like Washington, WSU, etc., a couple marquis games a year to really shine on national TV, and a very favorable training facility setup. Oregon’s version of the spread is a little more favorable to running backs than others, so it’s not entirely without merit. He’d be looking at more open-field style running with big risk/big reward payoffs.
If all that is indeed what the site is about (and I’m extrapolating big-time on this one), then UT has a bit of an uphill battle. They won’t have a good bead on UT’s offense (unlike Oregon) and the facilities are comparable to Oregon’s Nike-funded palaces but not explicitly better. UT would basically have to show the kid that they can better understand and tap his potential than his advisors can.

Yeah
Note that that is “Oregon” and not “Orgeron.” Eyes sometimes have wishful-thinking minds of their own.

I don't know what to make from this kid
Here’s an excerpt from this article:
Bryce Brown talks finalists, decision date
“I talked with Coach Lane Kiffin, and coach Jim Chaney [the offensive coordinator] came down to visit me,” he said. “They talked about the old USC stuff when Coach Kiffin had Reggie [Bush] and LenDale White. I want to be around good players, and I want to have the most players and best athletes on the field as my teammates because it makes it hard for the defense to stop the offense. With Tennessee, they want to get to that, but I don’t think that Tennessee has enough players to be successful at what they’re trying to do.”
Hmm? I kind of got mixed reviews when I read this article. Sounds like he carries around a lot of “baggage.” His quote about Tenn, still gives me hope…
He wants a guaranteed highlight reel.
As a completely independent thought from the recruiting spectrum, that’s an early red flag in my little book on NFL prospects. It may not be as big of a deal with running backs, where success is more a function of your offensive line and your lack of fumblitis than anything else, but the more successful NFL players tend to relish going against the best. (Think of Jay Cutler.) If the focus is trying to outmatch your opponent with talent in as many games as possible, you have a much harder time developing the tenacity needed to succeed against the tougher odds the NFL provides. (Think of Maurice Clarett (sp? I can’t recall.).)
Again, I’m not disparaging him in particular, but it’s something I do look for.
